Spinning In Their Own Little World ... At SDCC

    Sunday, July 27, 2008 | 02:39 UTC | Posted by woj | Cherries

We haven’t received any reports from anyone who attended the panel and signing at San Diego Comic-Con today so we thought linking to this blog post Google found for us would be a good way to get the ball rolling. ‘Twas written by Kelson from K-Squared Ramblings, a comics fan and a Tori fan, who attended both events and sounds like he enjoyed them quite a bit!

If you were there and would like to share your experiences with the site’s readers, please send ‘em in!

    Amazon CBT Delivery Delays

    Saturday, July 26, 2008 | 17:29 UTC | Posted by woj | Cherries

Several folks report having received an e-mail from Amazon.com earlier this week regarding their pre-order for the limited edition of Comic Book Tattoo. Amazon indicated they were “still trying to obtain” the limited edition and requested confirmation to keep the order open. Not confirming by August 23rd would cause the order to be automatically canceled.

Understandably, those who got this letter contacted Amazon to express their concern. In all cases, Amazon said that, as of Thursday, they have not received copies of any edition of the book (paperback, hardcover or limited edition) due to a publisher’s delay. They also stated that they anticipate receiving the delivery within the next few days and will be shipping them out as soon as they arrive.

We’re not entirely sure what to make of this. The cynic would say Amazon over-sold their allotment of the limited edition, but the tale is consistent across several sources and there was a delay in getting the books to Comic-Con as well. Since the actual street date for the paperback and hardcover for non-comic shops and the limited edition for all outlets is this week, a delay of a few days, given the tight production schedule and rush up to Comic-Con, is perfectly plausible. We’re optimistic but how things play out this week will be the proof in the pudding. We’ll see what we can find out and ask that if anyone hears anything (whether from Rantz at SDCC or Amazon or anywhere), please let us know so we can share the information.

Thanks to susan, lol, Paul and Erinn for helping out with this.

Update: Several people have reported receiving shipped notices or copies of the paperback from Amazon so it’s pretty obvious that the sales rep who said they had not received any editions of the book was mistaken. However, to date, no one has reported receiving the regular hardcover. If you have, please let us know!

Rantz Spins Indie-ly On The Rack And Other CBT Promo

    Thursday, July 24, 2008 | 03:50 UTC | Posted by woj | Cherries

Rantz returned to the Indie Spinner Rack podcast this week to talk about Comic Book Tattoo. You may recall that he’s been interviewed there before but this visit is devoted entirely to the collection, its genesis and Rantz’s long-time friendship with Tori. Check it out!

And since this is as good a place as any, be advised that Tori and Rantz also did several radio and television interviews on Tuesday in the run-up ti Comic-Con (he has two photos from that on his Flickr photostream as well). We’re not sure what all those media outlets were but if we get wind of any, we’ll let you know.

Also, there will be a book release party for Comic Book Tattoo at Golden Apple Comics in Los Angeles (on Melrose) at 6:00 PM on Friday, August 1st. Rantz and many of the book’s creators will be there for a meet and greet and signing. Tori will not be in attendance, but if you’re interested in meeting the folks behind the book and have the opportunity to attend, it looks like it will be a good time. The party is a benefit for the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund so there is an admission fee but it’s for a good cause and there will be drawings for several prizes including one of the limited edition CBTs, one of the Boys For Pele tour programs that Rantz designed, a Boys For Pele-themed original story by Neil Gaiman that has never been reprinted anywhere as well as some other great items.

    Amoeba Records Signing

    Tuesday, July 22, 2008 | 05:34 UTC | Posted by woj | Cherries

Glo kindly linked us to her Flickr set of photographs taken at the Amoeba Records Comic Book Tattoo signing earlier tonight. Click the photo below to whisk your “browsr” to Flickr to see the rest … and if anyone else was able to attend the signing and would care to share stories or photos from the event, please let us know!

    UPDATE

Amoeba Records has posted a photo gallery on their site (thanks Melissa!).

Rantz posted several photos from the signing on his Flickr as well.

Kristopher wrote about the signing on his blog and also posted a snippet of video on YouTube.

Glo also grabbed some video from the signing and worked it up for YouTube. Needless to say, it’s not entirely serious!

Jump the cut for a report about the signing from Lisa and Lori — and any others that folks send in later…hopefully!

    Amazon.com Muddies The CBT Waters...

    Thursday, July 17, 2008 | 22:37 UTC | Posted by woj | Cherries

Sabrina wrote us saying that she had gotten an e-mail from Amazon.com indicating that their stock of the Comic Book Tattoo limited edition hardcover had been replenished and, sure enough, the pre-order button over yonder is active again. We’re not sure how this jives with the word from Rantz that the limited edition is sold out but we would be remiss not to at least pass on the news. As there are only 1,000 of this slipcase-enclosed, hardcover editions signed by Tori, if Amazon really does have additional copies, they probably don’t have very many and you may want to act fast.

UPDATE: Rantz has confirmed that Amazon did receive an additional allotment of the limited edition. However, as we speculated, it is a small number so acting fast is recommended.

In the interest of the free market economy, it would be wrong for us not to point out that other booksellers such as Barnes & Noble, Powells, Borders and Tower Books, just to name a few, are still taking pre-orders for the limited edition as well. DavidMackGuide.com also has a list of stores to pre-order or, in the next week or two, purchase from. We also recommend the Comic Shop Locator Service if you want to patronize a local, independent store in your area. In fact, at this point, a local comic shop may be your best chance of finding a copy of the limited edition if it turns out the online booksellers are really blowing smoke with their pre-order pages.

On a related note, Mark Bednarz and susan received notice from Amazon that the estimated delivery date for their CBT shipments had been moved back to July 28th – 30th. While we can’t say for sure, we suspect that Amazon may be correcting the publication date for the book since, as ToriAmos.com says, the paperback and hardcover editions will be available in comic shops on July 23rd and everywhere else on July 29th while whatever copies of the limited edition do make it to stores will be available on July 30th.

UPDATE: And at least one person reports receiving confirmation that their copy of the book has shipped. Perhaps there is a paperback vs. hardcover vs. limited edition domension to be factored in here as well….

Amoeba CBT Signing For the Unwashed Masses!

    Thursday, July 17, 2008 | 03:24 UTC | Posted by woj | Cherries

Can’t get to San Diego or don’t have a Comic-Con International membership to attend the signing at the convention?

Well, if you’ll be in the Los Angeles area, you can take a stab at attending a public signing at Ameoba Music!

Tori will be stopping by the Hollywood Amoeba Records (6400 Sunset Blvd. at Cahuenga) for a Comic Book Tattoo signing at 6:00 PM PT on Monday, July 21st. The first 200 people to purchase CBT starting at 10:30 AM that day will receive a wristband granting them admission to the signing. Only one item can be signed per person and while you can get something other than CBT signed, you will still have to purchase a copy of the book to get a wristband.

Amoeba opens at 10:30 AM so if you plan on arriving before then, Amoeba requests that you form a line on the Ivar side of store.

For additional details, check out Amoeba’s page for the event.

Thanks to Becky for the alert!

    Comic Book Tattoo Blog Launches

    Wednesday, July 09, 2008 | 14:39 UTC | Posted by woj | Cherries

Comic Book Tattoo editor Rantz Hoseley, in cooperation with Comic Book Resources, has launched Comic BLOG Tattoo, a blog where he and the others involved in bringing the project to fruition will be writing about the inspiration for their stories and the process of creating them. Expect exclusive artwork, script pages and other behind-the-scenes features to be included too. Keep an eye on the site for regular updates from the other contributors who worked on the book — as well as a couple special surprises! The first post, where Rantz discusses his work on “The Waitress,” is up now.

Incidentally, as mentioned at the end of his post, he encourages folks who have questions about the book to post them in the CBR Forums where he and the other contributors will do their best to answer them.

MySpace Comics Feature on Tori and Comic Book Tattoo

    Wednesday, July 09, 2008 | 04:22 UTC | Posted by woj | Cherries

While the Undented Dork Posse took last weekend off for the long holiday weekend (Happy Tori Independence Day-er, wait-a-minute…), the promotional machine for Comic Book Tattoo continued to churn.

Last Wednesday, MySpace Comics featured a post on their blog (you may have to register with MySpace to view it) where Tori lists her five favorite artists and includes a complete preview of “Upside Down”, Mark Sable’s and Salgood Sam’s contribution to the anthology. Note: some may consider that piece NSFW — depending, of course, on where you work!

Thanks to everyone who let us know about this feature, particularly lushvalley who was the first to get us to pick up the phone…

And while we’re on the topic of Comic Book Tattoo, two other related items of interest have come to our notice.

First, Tim O’Shea interviewed CBT-contributor Elizabeth Genco about her recent project, Blue, but she also reveals the lyric that inspired her adaptation of “Here. In My Head” and drops the news that she had already written a Tori-inspired story, “Cooling”, which can be found on the Endicott Studios website.

Second, shyam points out that Canadian bookseller Chapters.Indigo is still taking pre-orders for the limited edition of the collection.

A Gentle Note About San Diego Comic-Con...

    Wednesday, July 09, 2008 | 04:22 UTC | Posted by woj | Cherries

Devon wrote in to point out something that I meant to mention in our post about Tori’s appearance at Comic-Con International in San Diego. Since these are convention-sponsored events, you must be a registered member of the convention to attend either the panel discussion or the signing. Unfortunately, four-day passes and Saturday-only passes have already sold out and there will be no registration at the door. While ToriAmos.com indicates that more details are forthcoming, it would seem unlikely that they will be able to bend the admission rules for those who only want to attend these events.

If we get clarification about this point from either ToriAmos.com or Comic-Con, we’ll update this story, but it would seem likely that only already-registered conventioneers will be able to attend either of these events.

    Comic Book Tattoo Sneak Preview

    Friday, June 27, 2008 | 04:15 UTC | Posted by woj | Cherries

Rantz has posted a few snapshots of an advance copy of the Comic Book Tattoo hardcover on his Flickr photostream. In addition to a shot of the outside of the book are a couple shots of pages from Caught A Lite Sneeze (by Mike Maihack) and The Beekeeper (by Neil Kleid and Christopher Mitten).

Update: Rantz notes on the Freakangels message board that the limited edition of the anthology is SOLD OUT except for 50 copies which will be available at Comic Con (and any copies that comic shops may have ordered and not yet sold).
