Hang With Tori and Rantz At San Diego Comic-Con!

    Friday, June 27, 2008 | 03:59 UTC | Posted by woj | Cherries

In addition to receiving a facelift today, ToriAmos.com announced that Tori will be making several appearances at Comic Con International in San Diego in July.

First, she will be discussing Comic Book Tattoo with editor Rantz Hoseley and contributors David Mack, Ted McKeever, Kelly Sue DeConnick, and Elizabeth Genco in a panel moderated by comics and music critic Douglas Wolk on Saturday, July 26th at 11:30 AM.

Following the panel, at 2:00 PM, there will be a signing for 200 lucky fans. To get a ticket to the signing, you’ll need to purchase a copy of Comic Book Tattoo at the Image Comics booth (#2729) at the convention. According to ToriAmos.com, 20 tickets will be available on Wednesday July 23rd, 75 tickets each on Thursday and Friday, and 30 tickets on Saturday before the signing.

The exact details of the event locations have not been determined and will be announced once Comic-Con’s program is finalized.

Thanks to Tori S. for the tip!

Update: Note that attending either event requires you to have an admission ticket to the convention itself! As four-day passes and Saturday-only tickets are sold out, walk-ups without convention tickets-in-hand will probably NOT be able to get into either the panel discussion or the signing! While ToriAmos.com indicates that more details are forthcoming, it would seem unlikely that they will be able to bend the rules about admission to the convention for those who have not already registered.

Catching Up With A Comic Book Tattoo Part Deux

    Monday, June 23, 2008 | 06:15 UTC | Posted by woj | Cherries

Since we last mentioned Comic Book Tattoo, there have been some developments on that front.

First, editor Rantz Hoseley has uploaded several photographs of the printer’s dummy for the limited edition hardcover and slipcase to Flickr. We have to say that it’s looking pretty sharp!

Second, this past weekend, Image Comics was in attendance at HeroesCon, where Comic Book Tattoo was the subject of one of the three panels dealing with the imprint. We haven’t located any news from this panel yet, but Comic Book Resources has reported on the general Image Comics panel held later that afternoon.

Finally, after weeks of being unavailable, Amazon.com is finally taking pre-orders for the regular hardcover edition of the anthology. However, they are no longer taking pre-orders for the limited edition so it appears they may have finally run out of their allotment of the limited edition. Note that several people have written us to confirm that the price they pre-ordered the limited edition from Amazon at is still listed in their order history. Additionally, Amazon’s pre-order price guarantee means that those who got in on the pre-ordering when the price was good got quite a deal!

Thanks to Kirkland, Tony, Arfquake, and rusty for the tips!

Tori Contributes To 33 1/3's Reign In Blood Book

    Monday, June 23, 2008 | 06:15 UTC | Posted by woj | Cherries

Earlier this month, Slayer’s Reign In Blood became the 57th album to receive the once-over as the 33 1/3 series turned its gaze towards one of the most highly respected and revered thrash metal records ever recorded (yes, even more than Dethklok!). Tracing the history, creation and impact of the Reign In Blood, author D.X. Ferris interviewed numerous artists and musicians, including Tori who, as we probably don’t need to remind anyone, covered the album’s closing track, “Raining Blood,” on her record Strange Little Girls.

The book is available from publishers Continuum Books, Amazon.com and other find booksellers.

And, lest anyone suspect that Toriphiles have short memories, Boys for Pele is one of the albums slated to be written about as well. Unfortunately, no new news about this publication has surfaced either from 33 1/3’s blog or author Elizabeth Merrick’s website.

Thanks to Robert Schrader and Amy for the tip!

Get Limited Edition CBT Prints At BEA In L.A.

    Thursday, May 29, 2008 | 03:21 UTC | Posted by Violet | Cherries

Rantz will be at the BEA convention in Los Angeles this Friday and Saturday (5/30 & 5/31). If any of you happen to be going, head over to the Image booth from 1-2pm both days to say hello. He’ll be signing limited edition Comic Book Tattoo prints (only 200 available, and only available at BEA) and generally doing his best to not look exhausted.

Here’s what the print, by Jock, looks like:

We hope some of you can manage to score one!

UPDATE: Valyum noticed that Neil will also be at BEA on Friday.

It's Been A While Since We Mentioned Comic Book Tattoo

    Saturday, May 24, 2008 | 18:12 UTC | Posted by woj | Cherries

Since it’s been about a week while since we posted anything about the upcoming comic anthology….

Melanie points out that The Tori Store is currently sold out of the limited edition of Comic Book Tattoo. Whether they will get any additional copies to sell or not remains to be seen. Meanwhile, Amazon continues to merrily accept pre-orders for the limited edition while the regular hardcover remains unavailable. We’ve written to Amazon asking for clarification on this since it seems very strange that they would still be able to offer the limited edition after The Tori Store is, at least for the time being, no longer taking pre-orders for it. If we get any useful information from their response, we’ll be sure to post it.

On a related note, Persephone_e mentions that the UK bookseller Waterstone’s is accepting pre-orders for all three editions of the collection: softcover, hardover and, based on the price of £60 price difference, what appears to be the limited edition harcover. Thanks to her for that tip!

    "Cherry Bomb" Details

    Friday, May 16, 2008 | 19:47 UTC | Posted by Violet | Cherries

Here’s the shizz on Cherry Bomb. Sounds really cool! We expect to have cover art to share with you soon.

Who says coolness can’t be taught?

CHERRY BOMB is the ultimate guide to infusing everyday like with rock-star style.

Entertainment journalist/author Carrie Borzillo-Vrenna has rounded up some of her famous friends, favorite rock chicks, and cool experts to dish out advice, inspiration, and know-how in her forthcoming book, CHERRY BOMB: The Ultimate Guide to Becoming a Better Flirt, a Tougher Chick, and a Hotter Girlfriend, and to Living Life Like a Rock Star (Simon Spotlight Entertainment; On-sale August 5, 2008; $18.95).

CHERRY BOMB is an A-to-Z reference for everything awesome a girl needs to know, including the obvious (style, beauty, dating, and sex tips) and the not-so-obvious (how to prepare absinthe, how to sneak backstage, how to hit on a celebrity).

Unlike other lifestyle or advice books of its kind, CHERRY BOMB is a girl guide with a rock and roll twist. CHERRY BOMB – the titled influenced from the Runaways teen rebellion anthem of the same name — is peppered with playlists of songs for every occasion (songs to get over a broken heart, songs to get in touch with your “tough chick” side, songs to get you out of a funk), as well as contributions from some of the writer’s favorite rock chicks, including Tori Amos, Cherie Currie of the Runaways, Terri Nunn of Berlin, Samantha Maloney of Peaches, Louise Post of Veruca Salt, Imogen Heap, and others.

“Every time one of my contributors handed in their section or sat down with me for an interview and dished out their advice, it felt like Christmas morning when you’re a kid and you get every gift you want,” says Borzillo-Vrenna. “I’m honored to have all of these great gals (and a few guys) be a part of this book. There’s a little something for everyone in there and you don’t have to be a rock chick to enjoy it or get something from it. You just need to be a gal who’s not afraid to be bold, sexy, and a little different.”

    Contributors include:

    • Cherie Currie of the Runaways (on “Cherry Bomb,” the song that influenced the book)
    • Tori Amos (Life Advice)
    • Dita Von Teese (Striptease)
    • Betsey Johnson (Breast Cancer Awareness and Personal Style)
    • Dancing with the Stars’ Cheryl Burke (Dancing Tips)
    • Samantha Maloney of Peaches (Drum Lesson)
    • Imogen Heap (Individuality)
    • Lisa Loeb (How To Be a Great Hostess)
    • American Idol makeup artist Mezhgan (Beauty)
    • Stylist Cynthia Freund (Rock Chick Style Tips)
    • Anna Sui (Fashion Inspiration)
    • Kat Von D (Tattoos)
    • Master Chef Dave Rubell (Black Vodka Recipes)

    And many more…

Not for the faint of heart, this book will appeal to the girls who prefer black nail polish to French manicure. Written by the quintessential cook chick CHERRY BOMB will empower women to veer away from the pack, work every situation to their advantage, and look cool doing it.

    Friday, May 16, 2008 | 02:11 UTC | Posted by Beth | Cherries

Several sources are reporting that Miss Tori will dispense “life advice” in the forthcoming book Cherry Bomb: The Ultimate Guide to Becoming a Better Flirt, a Tougher Chick, and a Hotter Girlfriend, and to Living Life Like a Rock Star. Tori’s ivories of wisdom will cozy up alongside advice from Lisa Loeb, Anna Sui, Terri Nunn, Cherie Currie, Imogen Heap and many others. CBT: The Responsible Parties, More Artwork, Tori Store Pre-orders

    Wednesday, May 07, 2008 | 03:11 UTC | Posted by woj | Cherries

First and foremost, Newsarama has posted the complete creator list for Comic Book Tattoo. The list appears to be one row per story, so one would assume that one could match up that list with the song list and figure out who worked on which story for the anthology.

Update: Indeed, Everything Tori has posted the contents of the anthology, listing titles and creators, so now we can be sure of who worked on what. The full list is included beyond the cut

Additionally, Newsarama has more exclusive artwork from the collection to whet the appetite. Panels from Winter, Mr. Zebra, Here In My Head, and Bouncing Off Clouds can be now viewed on their site — and we have to say that they look really tasty!

Update #2: Leif Jones has posted a second page from “Little Amsterdam” on his blog.

From the pre-ordering-the-collection department, all three editions of Comic Book Tattoo have been added to The Tori Store. They are currently charging the full price for all three (thank you Darrell!).

Meanwhile, on the Amazon front, the hardcover continues to be “currently unavailable” while the limited edition continues to be available (perhaps they’ve gotten the quantities they can sell of the two items mixed up?). And, even though the American store has jacked up the price of the limited edition to $94.49, the Canadians are still listing the deluxe edition at the drastically low price of CDN $63.83 (thanks Colleen!). Even discounting the current strength of the Canadian dollar, that’s still a steal considering the list price.

Finally, DavidMackGuide has posted a list of several stores where you can pre-order any of the three editions of the collection. If you’re looking to send your business to somewhere other than the faceless Amazon behemoth and support a comic store directly, take a look!

Your Daily Comic Book Tattoo Update

    Friday, May 02, 2008 | 23:43 UTC | Posted by woj | Cherries

Paul, chet and SugaredRiotPoof note that Amazon.com has increased their price for pre-ordering the deluxe edition of Comic Book Tattoo. Amazon now accurately shows the list price as $149.99 but are charging $94.49 for pre-orders — up from the $62.99 steal that was listed last week. Several people who pre-ordered the book at the lower price report receiving confirmation from Amazon that the lower price will be honored when the book is delivered to those early adopters. The pre-order prices for the softcover and regular hardcover remain unchanged — and the hardcover also remains mysteriously unavailable. And don’t forget that Forbidden Planet has all three editions for pre-order as well.

We also hasten to point out, since we hired specially-trained ninjas to surreptitiously do so under the cover of night, that three new pieces of artwork from the anthology have been added to our previous article about the collection’s “set list”! Rantz was gracious enough to let us share with the Toriphile community pages from “Marianne” (by Kako), “Space Dog” (by Matthew S. Armstrong) and “The Waitress” (art by Ming Doyle, writing by Rantz Hoseley). Check it out!

Come And Get It: The Comic Book Tattoo Songs! And New Artwork!

    Friday, May 02, 2008 | 12:55 UTC | Posted by woj | Cherries

Hear ye! Hear ye! Undented is pleased to announce the “track listing”, if you will, for the upcoming Comic Book Tattoo anthology!

Rantz was kind enough to send us the list of songs which, in this order, comprise the collection. Covering the width and breadth of Tori’s catalog, from the old to the new and the hits to the obscure, every Toriphile should find at least one of their favorites of Tori’s girls in the book’s chapters — and maybe find a few new favorites as well!

UPDATE: But wait! There’s more! We have three more exclusive panels of sample artwork from the collection. They are from the stories for “Marianne”, “Space Dog”, and “The Waitress”. Check them out beyond the cut — and thanks, again, to Rantz for allowing us to share them with everyone!

Jump the cut for the full list and keep an eye out for more details about the anthology to surface soon!
