News: Here A Tori, There A Tori (August 21, 2007)

Posted by Beth on Tuesday, August 21, 2007 | Minutiae

[Here a Tori, There a Tori is an occasional series of columns in which we round up small mentions of Tori in various media.]

    In today’s edition:

    • Photoshop contest includes cyborg Tori
    • Tori gets her own Hallmark card
    • HMV in-store photo on Schmap
    • Tori’s music inspires feminist book
    • Vampire Mooose singer namechecks Tori
    • Overheard in Vegas, Sirius

Worth1000.com recently ran a Photoshop contest in which celebs were re-cast as cyborgs, and no, Tori wasn’t spared. Click on over to see the Toribot, along with Keira Knightley, Denise Richards, Charlize Theron and Audrey Hepburn. Thanks to jena for sending this in.

Megan spotted a new Hallmark card — part of a series called “pop goes the culture” — that features Tori. Her card says, “You know that saying, bad things don’t happen to good people? That’s a lie.” —Tori Amos

Dan noticed that Yahoo’s Schmap section on Sydney, Australia includes a photo of Tori at a 2005 in-store appearance at HMV. Roll over the HMV thumbnail in that middle column to see a larger version of the pic. (Click on it for an even bigger one!)

One of our anonymous tipsters noticed that the book “Feminist Research Practice: A Primer,” by Sharlene Hesse-Biber and Patricia Leavy, mentions that Tori’s music served as a prime inspiration during the creation of the tome.

Chris, one of those rare Tori fans (like me) who listens to metal, heard Ryan Pulliam, lead singer for the deathcore group Vampire Mooose, namecheck Tori on a recent Indianapolis radio show called Liquid Metal: “He said that pretty much if you weren’t metal, and you weren’t maynard from tool, tori amos, or mike patton, then you aren’t anything today.” (In interviews, band members have often cited Tori as an influence alongside Phish, Sepultura, and Tool. How’s that for diverse?)

And, in the “overheard at random” department, Adam heard “Big Wheel” while cruising around in his Las Vegas hotel and Wendi heard “Teenage Hustling” on Sirius radio.
