News: Here A Tori, There A Tori (October 7, 2007)

Posted by Beth on Monday, October 08, 2007 | Minutiae

[“Here a Tori, There A Tori” is an occasional column that includes brief Tori sightings and mentions.]

    This edition includes:

    • Wrestler Mick Foley mentions Tori in newest book
    • Paula Cole mentions Tori in MySpace blog
    • Woman’s Day quotes Tori
    • Tori’s name in LA Times crossword
    • MAAG sampled on Klute song
    • Tori namedropped on CSI:Miami

Gary spotted a Tori mention in pro-wrestler Mick Foley’s book The Hardcore Diaries:

“It’s twenty minutes before the match, and I’m in an oddly mellow state. I can’t help but contrast this mellowness to my pre-‘Mania mindset, where I had worked myself into a frenzy. Back on April 2, I had found a private corner of the building and rocked back and forth for minutes, listening to “Winter” by Tori Amos, a beautiful, haunting song that for some reason continues to give rise to goose bumps and thoughts of hardcore destruction, thirteen years after first being touched by it in Maxx Pain’s car on a long forgotten WCW road trip.”

According to Brian Smith, Paula Cole was ruminating in her MySpace blog and briefly mentioned Tori:

I find myself listening to Tori Amos’ “Little Earthquakes” after many years of neglect, and am moved. I remember those early 90’s when Tori debuted. This album is still so wonderful, and I’m inspired anew.

In the July issue of Woman’s Day, a short quote from Tori appeared in the magazine’s “Last Word” section:

“There’s room for everybody on the planet to be creative if you are your own person. If you’re trying to be like somebody else, then there isn’t.”

    Cheers for that, Lauren!

Tori’s name was included in the June 19 Los Angeles Times crossword. Just call her 73 Across. We trust you did that one with a pen, Nicole.

Marci wrote in to tell us that you can hear a sample of “Me and a Gun” on Klute’s album Emperor’s New Clothes, specifically on the “Our Leader” track. (We’re betting it’s a different kind of song than the other one which samples MAAG: Salt Tank’s “Eugenia.”)

Oh, we know it was ages ago, but it looks like a writer for CSI:Miami might be a Tori fan. During the episode called “A Grizzly Murder,” one of the characters is gathering clues about a missing person by going through his/her computer. The guy says, “With five Tori Amos albums, it must be a girl.” (Apparently they don’t know about Mick Foley!) Thanks, Dain!
