News: Birmingham Mail Concert Review (September 9. 2009)

Posted by woj on Tuesday, September 15, 2009 | Reviews,Touring

Ben Hurst reviewed last week’s show at the Birmingham Symphony Hall for the Birmingham Mail. Although short on words, the article is not short on praise, calling the performance “truly supersonic.”

Thanks to Bob for catching this one!

Talented Tori Amos a force of nature at Symphony Hall

Sep 9 2009 by Ben Hurst, Birmingham Mail

    TORI AMOS

    Symphony Hall, Birmingham

IT’S almost beyond belief that in a career spanning 20 years, this was Tori’s first show in the Second City.

The American singer-songwriter and pianist was born to play venues like Symphony Hall and she made full use of its world class acoustics.

Tori’s haunting and startling vocals on songs such as Little Earthquakes reverberated around the auditorium, keeping the audience spellbound.

Wearing a turquoise gown and silver leggings, the sultry redhead played keyboards and grand piano at the same time, arms and legs outstretched.

Like a force of nature and displaying as much stage presence as Elton John, she would often play at 100mph, rocking out with a Southern drawl.

A measure of Tori’s talent came when her earpiece failed mid-song and she alerted her crew by adding new lyrics, which rhymed and scanned perfectly.

    A truly supersonic, two-hour show.

    Verdict: HHHHH
