News: In Honor of Violet's Mom, Marilyn

Posted by woj on Tuesday, October 27, 2009 | Site News

One last note before knocking off for the night…

As those of you who follow Violet on Twitter may know, the memorial service for her mother, who was tragically killed in a car accident a couple weeks ago, took place yesterday in Half Moon Bay, California. She’s hanging in there and appreciates all the e-mail, private messages, direct messages and tweets of support she’s received since then. As a few of you have asked about memorial donations, Violet forwarded me some information about that to post.

She and her mom shared a deep love of animals and her mom came to support three animal-related charities and organizations in particular: the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, the World Society for the Protection of Animals and Riddle’s Elephant and Wildlife Sanctuary in the Arkansas Ozarks, the area where she grew up.

If anyone would like to make a donation to any of those organizations in her name, just use the links above and make the donation in honor of Marilyn Bosshart.

If you’d like to have the organization notify Violet about the donation, her contact information is:

    Violet Hefner
    P.O. Box 22171
    Oakland, CA 94623-2171
e-mail: mom at missviolet dot com

And, of course, you’re all more than welcome to send Violet cards or notes at that P.O. Box address as well.

Violet would also like to share the song she recorded that was played at her mother’s memorial service, a sparse version of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” with some lyrics reworked by her to make it appropriate for presentation in the church. It was Marilyn’s favorite song in the world. Download and share freely.

Again, sincerest thanks to all of you who have written Violet in support. She really appreciates the love and kindness of all of you have showed her — and I do too. Thanks.
