    Tori is touring in 2017 to support the release of Native Invader. The European legs runs from early September through early October and the North American leg runs from late October to early December. We do not know if additional dates elsewhere will be added.

    Tori Amos: Midwinter Graces (Island)

    With a few notable exceptions, not many artists pull off that seasonal chestnut, the Christmas album (yes, Bob Dylan, we’re talking to you).

    Tori Amos is an unlikely candidate – she has subverted religious iconography in the past – and opts for a different kind of celebration on Midwinter Graces, a collection of original and reworked traditional material.

    Amos’s extravagant approach isn’t best suited to this material but she acquits herself decently enough on Candle: Coventry Carol; a stately version of Emmanuel; and on standout track Winter’s Carol, here steeped in an old, mysterious midnight.

    Yet Harps Of Gold has nasty, 1980s throwback synths’n‘bells backing while Pink And Glitter is an incongruous blast of after-dinner big-band pastiche.

    Hit and miss – much like most of Amos’s recent output.
