In a word… disappointing. I love Tori and will see her again and again, but tonight missed her impromptu monologues, quirky comments and the raw emotion usually displayed throughout her performances. Poor quality sound (constant buzzing and low static when she sang on her own), vocals drowned out when performed with the band, and the only time she spoke was to introduce her backup. Of the five times I’ve seen her, this was my least favourite. However, I know she’s brilliant and almost always delivers… so I’ll chalk it up to last night of the tour and fatigue. Hard to say fatigue, though, when she was on for over 2 hours… Disappointed but still a devoted fan.

I was at both Perth shows, I thought they were both equally brilliant in their own right. Different songs create different moods and as the set list changes constantly you can’t expect the same experience. Tori is an amazing talent, a privilege to witness. I didn’t notice any musical problems at all throughout the shows. The quality was excellent!! Tori has the most incredible unique voice. I was fortunate to meet her as well. She is a lovely genuine person. That was the first time I have seen her perform, I loved the whole show!

    3. Bevan says:

I wasn’t disappointed in the slightest. Tori was in fine form last night. Isabel was sensational, she was wearing a flowing black and white number that looked great. She played a longer opening set than usual and Virginia was hard to recognise at first.

Tori also played Upside Down after many requests from a fan I met at the M&G. I requested Spark and wow :) So much Choirgirl it was just awesome. For the first time I a got a bit teary at a Tori concert, when she was doing the improv about ‘how to say goodbye’ ... apparently Tash wants to live in Oz after she’s 18. Tori said she’ll be coming back! Although couldn’t say when.

During the support act, Matt Chamberlain was on stage in cardboard box dancing with the band, quite funny. Jon Evans did a slide guitar solo (I think that’s what that other thing is he plays) for George Byrne as well. Interesting, George’s first song was also called ‘Isabel’.

I’ve had so much fun this tour, I’ve seen all four dolls over four shows (Melbourne & Perth) so count myself a lucky boy. Met some fantabulous people at the M&G :) And I met Tori twice :) :)

Now – where are the velvets now I’m coming down?!

      Thanks Tori

I left a little note about the pip show, but isabel was just as fabulous. i have a new found respect for her. Such a bittersweet night, though yes fraught with technical issues no less enchanting.

    5. Amy says:

I have to agree with Bevan, it was a fantastic show! I liked it more than Thursday night's show (which I didn't think was possible because it too was fantastic!). I asked for Liquid Diamonds at the M&G, and I got it… and then to also hear China, Sorta Fairytale, God, Caught A Lite Sneeze, Sspark and Precious things. Tori must have been reading my mind. I did shed a tear or too, she was amazing, fantastic and down right bloody awesome.

I will always be in awe of this beautiful, talented women!!

    6. Kelli says:

So much fun! The front row for this concert had won a preshow meet with Tori. Thursday night’s show the front row were press, and apparently someone went to sleep during the show on Tori! The guys in the band were having trouble getting into it on Thursday, they seemed much cooler last night! There were heaps of people getting up to go to the loo during the show and you could see Tori getting distracted. But pee or no pee – Kelli will sit there while Tori is playing!

Isabel was gorgeous, as was Sweet Dreams, Tombigbee, Almost Rosey, and VIRGINIA.

Tori had on her sparkly purple/red jumpsuit. The jumpsuits have the impression of making her look chubby, which she really isn’t! I was really unimpressed with the crowds at the Perth shows. No mass clapping during Big Wheel!? God was awesome, as was Black Dove, liquid diamonds and CALS.

Yes. The improv made me cry :( My ‘stalker’ buddy Nisha wrote down the improv properly. I didn’t get a whole recording of it, but it went like this:

      “How do you say goodbye?
How do you say goodbye, she asked me.
She asked me just this evening.
Will we ever come back here, she said to me.
Tears on my, tears on my sleeve.
Oh, I said, you believe it, baby.
She said, I think I wanna live here when I’m eighteen, when I get my tattoo, then.
I said, you better believe this.
      Oh baby, coming home.
How do you say goodbye to the friends you’ve made in just a little time?
Who have forever changed my life.
And you better believe you’ve changed me.
So, one day, better believe, we’re coming home…”

China was OK. The mixerman put a reverb on her voice, which he didn’t take off for the rest of the night, but it sounded OK. Upside Down and COMT were drool-worthy, really. But people were going to the toilet during them, so Tori was distracted. I think this was the reason why we didn’t get a good encore.

After coming back for the first encore, something felt wrong with her, maybe she had to leave to catch a plane or something, but she looked a bit off and wasn’t really giving her best. Perhaps it was fatigue, or the people going to the toilet, but it was a bit sad to see such a dynamic performer who gives such flawless and passionate shows under visible stress. Not that I’m complaining! It truly was an unforgettable show!

After Hey Jupiter, she got up and waved goodbye and high fived a couple of her new front row friends. We were pretty upset that she was leaving after pretty much the same encore songs as the night before and she gave us that mum look with a smile “No. That’s enough.”

She didn’t skip off the stage.

    7. Ali says:

This was the first time I have ever seen Tori in concert and I must say that I was really impressed with her performance (Friday night show). She was amazing! The only thing I was disappointed in was the amount of people moving around during the show which I found really distracting and quite rude.
