sister janet and happy phantom knocked my socks off!

Brilliant! Tori was in top form from the get-go, doing cute little dances and pouring red (?) drinks out of a pitcher for the band before the show started. There were a ton of Halloween decorations on the stage – pumpkins, graves, etc. All of the crew was in Halloween costumes, including two people in a ketchup and mustard costume. During Happy Phantom crew people in costume, and Yoav, (who dressed like Tori in a dress and red wig!) came out and danced around the stage. At one point Tori said: “we decided to come to Pittsburgh for the Halloween show because we heard you people like to have a good time.”

Some of the audience members were dressed up, I saw two altar boys, and some halos and fairy wings.

Every song was fantastic, buy my favorites were She’s Your Cocaine and Hoochie Woman. Kudos to Tori – this has to be in my top shows of all time!

This was my first Tori show and it was absolutely amazing! The energy was insane. Santa brought the house down… it was great to hear “She’s Your Cocaine” and I was very impressed by “Body and Soul” live. It’s one of my favorites from the album and it’s just so much different live… in a good way!

During Tori’s set I was estatic when I heard “Father Lucifer” start… that is one of my favorite songs. “Putting the Damage On” is another one of my favorites and she performed it beautifully. It built up to a great emotional climax (which was only slightly broken by someone screaming “I love you!” at a really bad time).

“Mr. Zebra” was a good surprise and “Silent All These Years” was beautiful, of course. That’s perhaps one of my top five… and I think that this was the best I’ve heard it to date.

And of course it was great to hear “Precious Things” “Bouncing Off Clouds” and “Hey Jupiter.” All were well done.

Overall this concert was a blast. Tori is an amazing performer. I knew this already but there’s just nothing like seeing it live. The music just pumps through your veins. Ugh, it was a thrill.
(And I get to experience it again in Cleveland =D)

Oh! And I was able to meet her at a meet and greet and I about died. She was so kind and sweet. She listened to everything I had to say and responded, hugged me, and took a picture with me. I’m just in awe.

And I met some incredible people in line too. We spent the entire day and evening together.

      What an amazing night.

    4. Kim says:

Tori was absolutely beautiful and awesome tonight. She was very playful and flirty with the fans, and having the halloween party really added to the Pittsburgh show. I attended the Buffalo show too, and this far surpassed that show in terms of energy and audience interaction. The whole first set really rocked, including Hoochie Woman which is not one of my favorites but fit the character. She really got into it. Dragon was lovely with the band, and so was Putting the Damage On. She’s Your Cocaine was also incredible as was Code Rode. Silent All These Years was lovely, and I was really shocked and very pleased to hear Sister Janet during her solo set. Happy Phantom was fun as the entire stage crew and band danced around the stage. She metioned that they could have had the halloween party anywhere this week but chose Pittsburgh because the fans know how to party. Great show! The best I have been to yet. Thanks Tori!!

What can I say? It was probably the best show I’ve seen since Pittsburgh on the Plugged tour. I had Platinum VIP, so that didn’t hurt. Despite earlier comments that the VIP staff were rude, I thought the woman running the thing was great. She answered all my questions and was really friendly throughout. We had to wait in the lobby for maybe an hour before we got to go into soundcheck. We got to watch two songs during soundcheck which were Parasol and Digital Ghost, then they took us upstairs to a private room to wait for Tori. It was so unreal, she just walked into the room all casual, and I’m thinking, God, I’m in the same room as her. Weird. So everyone lined up and had their things signed and their pictures taken. When I got up to her I was holding the VIP tote bag and my Little Earthquakes LP and the tote bag wrapped around my wrist so I was all flustered. I said, I didn’t expect to be this flustered when I met you. She was really sweet and said, here, let me take this, and took the record out of my hand to sign it. I can’t really remember what else I said except that I told her I’d been to seven shows over the past 9 years and I hadn’t heart Silent All These Years yet, and she said, oh really, and wrote SILENT on her hand. Then I just said thanks after they snapped our picture and walked out of the VIP room. I’m proud of myself for being able to speak at all, I must say.

Anyway, about the show. Santa opened, of course, dressed like an angel. I’d never been to a Halloween show before and some girl in the VIP room said that her Halloween shows are the best, and she was right. Before Santa came on Tash pulled a wagon out on stage with a Jack-O-Lantern on it and set it beside the piano. Very cute. Then the band came on. Matt Chamberlain was dressed like Spiderman, Dan Phelps was Flava Flav, and Jon Evans was Dracula. So Tori bounced and sashayed around all sexy-like in her angel costume. She opened with Body & Soul which rocked and went into Hoochie Woman, where she poured drinks for the band like she did in Philly(?). I’m not going to give you a blow-by-blow of every song, but I will mention that during Cornflake Girl Tash and the crew passed out Halloween candy for everyone. (In case you care I got a Laffy Taffy and a Bit o Honey.) After Caught a Lite Sneeze the T & Bo sign popped up above Tori and she mentioned that she picked Pittsburgh to do a Halloween show because Pittsburgh knows how to party. Then she went into Mr Zebra. After Zebra she played the first few notes of Silent and I about jumped out of my skin. I don’t know if she was playing it because I asked her to or not, but I don’t really care because I finally got to hear it! She stopped playing for a second because she had to take her shoes off first, to which the audience cheered. She played Silent beautifully and went into Sister Janet. During Happy Phantom, some members of her crew and Yoav came out and danced on stage, it was hilarious. After that, the show was pretty much standard with the Code Red-Precious-Bouncing-Jupiter ending, but I wasn’t disappointed. I was really happy that she played so much from Boys for Pele, because that’s my fave, and I really liked the trippy Professional Widow, especially the girl in the front row wearing a Foxy Brown wig and dancing all around. The show was great, I only wish I would have dressed up. There were very few obnoxious people, which was a plus, and I did get to meet some great people during the VIP. I hope people got some good pictures, I didn’t know cameras were allowed so I took mine back to the car. I hope everyone enjoyed the show as much as I did!

What an incredible show! The energy was out of control with She’s Your Cocaine, Father Lucifer, Hoochie Woman, Caught a Lite Sneeze .. great set. I loved Tori’s costumes as well as the band and crew and of course the fans! Tash was adorable, I can’t believe she’s 7 years old already .. I’m getting old :).

I’ve been to many of Tori’s shows and I think this one could easily take the cake. Was a great intro for my Zombie boyfriend as well. :) Thanks for always coming through in Pittsburgh Tori! Even with corny fans who yell out, “Play that piano for Pittsburgh.” Seriously now.

    7. Cathy says:

Tori was so sexy! The show was probably the wildest of hers I’ve ever seen. She really got into the Halloween spirit!

    8. melzabelz says:

This show was AMAZING. Tori rocked it, the boys rocked it. And seeing Tash on stage in costume was such a treat. We really felt like we were involved in her party -tho I got candy, not a popcorn ball, but am not complaining. (Thanks for the chocolate, T!) Santa brought it in full force and opened with SUPER energy. She sang just about EVERY song I could have wished for. Come back to Pittsburgh, soon, Tori! We love you!

    9. Jessica M. says:

The show was absolutely amazing! I went to the M&G before the show and was so lucky to meet Tori. There was only about 20 or so people there, and as far as I know she talked to everyone. When it was my turn I pretty much lost my senses. She had to instruct me on how to introduce myself and shake hands, hahaha. I told her about how much the 2005 Cary, NC show meant to me since I had lost my Grandma that summer it really helped with closure. (Somewhere in this nonsensical chaos, I asked for “Sister Janet”) She told me that she understands how I feel because she was really close to her brother Michael and that we can understand that Halloween is more than just dressing up and having a good time. Tori said she has felt connected with Michael lately and that she hoped our loved ones would all be at the show dancing tonight. She signed SW for me..it was amazing! She is lovely!

The show itself was a blast! She was really on her game. The highlight by far for me was “Sister Janet”! I just about died when she started playing it. Silent All These Years, Dragon, Putting The Damage On, Hey Jupiter, and Digital Ghost were all beautiful. Santa was so fun and sassy, I adored her angel costume with her fire red high heels. Come back soon, Tori!!

    10. Lindsay says:

WOW WOW WOW!!! that about sums it up, but i could go on for pages about how awesome this show was. santa has to be the sexiest, sassiest woman on this planet, and her angel get-up was the cherry on top of her already intoxicating appeal. i cannot believe i got she’s your cocaine and sugar in the same show!!! i have been DYING to see her do sugar and i could barely contain myself through the entire performance. body&soul was phenomenal, that song has such a heaviness to it and hearing it live was truly a pleasure. the same for code red, my absolute fave on am. girl posse and my own self-proclaimed anthem(along with girl)...AMAZING! i was shocked to hear father lucifer, didn’t really expect it, but it was great. both father lucifer and hey jupiter have such a different feel played with full band , but in such a fantastic way. i was hoping to hear cooling, that song means so much to me, but putting the damage on is almost an equal in my book, so i was not disappointed. the whole halloween themed show was like hitting the jack-pot…it was so much fun and the whole atmosphere just kept you purely elated, and that was just without the most magical woman on earth and her boys… everyone was great, tori coming on as a fiery horned creature was classic, seeing tash was a special treat, the costumed crew dancing to happy phantom was perfect, and the setlist was to die for. so far the best show i have been to.

(also, want to add, yoav was really cool! i recommend catching his act if you haven’t already.)

ONE downside…. the 4 people in front of us rolled in about 3/4 of the way through hoochie woman and did. not. shut. up!!! they were SO loud, leaning over to talk to each other, laughing, just being totally inconsiderate. i had finally had enough and stood up, leaned over, and asked the girl on the end to politely shut the hell up. apparently, the girl 4 seats down from me did the same thing 30 seconds later, but unfortunately, our unknowingly joint collaboration was only slightly effective :(, but at least they chilled a little. if it had not been for those idiots, my night would have been perfect. the other girl who said something to them said she overheard one of the girls say “that was boring” after the last encore… SERIOUSLY, why would you even go to a show you seemingly didn’t care about and be so rude?!?! sorry to vent, but i wish we had been closer so tori would have smited them and their pointless presence! (perhaps with an improv….aw, that woman makes me fantasize, ha!) ANYWAY— in the end…BRILLIANT!

    11. Brandon says:

I thought it was a wonderful show. I loved Putting the Damage On, as it’s always my favorite, but She’s Your Cocaine, Sister Janet, Dragon, and Sugar were amazing as well. And seeing Tash was pretty neat…she’s so stinkin’ cute! This was my tenth Tori show but my first Halloween one, and it was really cool. I loved that the guitarist was dressed as Flavor Flav. Also, the stage was totally decked out with Halloween decorations…they really went all out! There were so many jack-o-lanterns, and her Bosey had glow-in-the-dark bats stuck to it. And, getting a popcorn ball was a treat too!

    12. alison says:

Jessica, i have to thank you big-time for mentioning “sister janet” to her. i chickened out on the m&g, but i wanted to ask her to play that one. i just about died, too, when the first notes started. hugs to you you made my wish come true, too. :)

it didn’t hurt that this was the closest to the stage that i’ve ever been. the bass speaker just about blew me away. i can’t say much that no one else has already said. the energy was incredible. santa was so sexy with her black stockings and red shoes. and she wasn’t shy about looking good either.
like other have said, tori was so playful and just had a great time the whole way through. this was my sixth show, and by far my favorite. i only hope that she got the letter that i put on the stage.

    13. Patrick says:

OH JESUS!!!! And yes, Jesus Christ was in the front row for this concert. He still had the crown of thorns on his head but he had come down of the cross because I am sure someone needed the wood. This was the biggest and best Halloween party I have ever attended. The whole day was nothing short of spectacular.

It all started with the beautiful drive through the mountains of Pennsylvania in pursuit of downtown Pittsburgh. We arrived without any trouble and immediately headed to the area for the meet and greet. Once we were in line, it was time to put our choir robes on. This was a big success with the locals! After we waited for a very short two hours making new friends in line, Tori slipped out of the stage door. She looked absolutely exquisite and she spoke and moved with such grace. When it was our turn to meet her, her reaction was quite unique and I was a little startled at first. All of the sudden she threw her hand in the air, lunged at us, and screamed “CHOIR BOYS!!!!!!!!!” She pulled my buddy, Mikey, to her left side and propped her arm up on his shoulder and she pulled me to her right side and rapped her arm around me as one of her security guards grabbed my ass. It was a big moment!! We were able to get some fantastic pictures with her that I will treasure FOREVER! She was so nice to talk to and she was so happy to see us.

The concert was SO SO SO SO AMAZING!!! To see all of her crew and staff dressed up was a show in it self. Her daughter looked adorable as she read the winners of the pumpkin carving contest. Her opening with Body and Soul exactly what I was hoping she would do and she was so much more into it than she was in Philadelphia. The best song of the night in my opinion was Putting the Damage On. I could have cried! It was after Code Red that Mikey and I rushed the stage and that is where I found Jesus in the front row. Tori seemed to be so pleased that Christ came to view her performance and he was able to get a seat direct center in the front row. All I can say about this show is that it was one of the best experiences I have ever had and I am so glad I was able to experience it with such wonderful people.

The best moment of the night for me was not at the meet and greet or at the concert, however, both of which were STELLAR! The best moment or moments were meeting these incredible people, who I have never met before, at the meet and greet and spending the entire evening with them. Tori fans are the BEST and you will not find people like them anywhere! Meeting these people, learning about them, and connecting with them through Tori was the icing on the cake for my experience. This event was like nothing that has ever been or will be. I have no more words for this experience.

      GO TORI!

A special thank you to Mike and Mark for starting my new addiction and cleaning out my bank account!

    14. Betsey says:

This was my first time to see Tori live, and it was about the most amazing experience of my life (honestly, right up there with my wedding day!). She was incredible to watch, a great performer. Overall the show was far better than I could have imagined. She played everything I could have hoped to hear, and the audience was great and energetic.

AAAAHHHHH!!! I think I love her even more now than I did, and can’t wait to see her again!

    15. Mike says:

I only have this one thing to say: Smitty dressed up as Don King. YOU do the math on how AWESOME the show was!!! :)
