    Setlist

Thanks to @odhranmullan, @David_IX and @GreekPsyche for the help with sorting out what was played! “Way Down” replaced “Mr. Zebra” on the setlist. “Pancake” reportedly included the “Ohio” bridge. There were two encores on the printed setlist but they were combined into one. There were also two improvisations: one before “Angels” about how long it had been since she sang that song and one during the encore about how the songs people had been requesting want to go away with the audience.

    • Shattering Sea
    • Seaside (solo)
    • Suede
    • Velvet Revolution (solo)
    • Girl Disappearing
    • Leather
    • Pancake (solo)
    • Father Lucifer (solo)
    • The Rose [Bette Midler] (solo)

Last night was my first time seeing Tori live and I was totally mesmorised by her. I thought it was a wonderful show – her voice and musicianship is first class. It’s a shame the venue wasn’t full but those who were there seemed to have a great time. Before the show, diehard Tori fans told me there would be tears and they were right!! The girl beside me cried a few times and I could feel myself filling up when she sang ‘The Rose’. It was a definite highlight for me. I really hope she comes back to Belfast again soon and doesn’t leave it as long next time.

This was also my first experience seeing Tori perform, and it was amazing indeed! I was bumped up to a 2nd row, centre seat, from which I could see the emotion run across Tori’s face as she played and sang. I was rapt, watching her sway and rock as she played. Her voice was beautiful, crystal clear and flawless; her playing was tight, as was the quartet. I was very impressed with their precision. The first violinist in particular was top notch, never missing his intonation, even as he jammed out, stomping his feet and lashing his head around!
Top songs for me that night were Leather, Pancake, Way Down, and The Rose. I did cry a few times (maybe that was Graeme next to me), the music was so emotional. The Rose in particular was extremely powerful, I know I wasn’t the only one crying during that one! Tori’s energy really ramped up towards the end, especially during Cruel and the final song, Big Wheel.

What an awesome day. I decided to go down to the venue during the afternoon on the off chance that Tori would be doing a m&g. Got there at exactly the right moment and was the 2nd last person allowed in the queue. Everyone got to speak with Tori one-on-one and she spent about an hour talking to the approx. 30 fans who had shown up. Tori was so lovely and I really understand what others have said about how she does her best to make you feel at ease. We chatted about how the last time she’d been in Belfast was 1994 (she referenced this in the show later). I told her I would have been 7 or 8 at the time which I realised probably wasn’t what she wanted to hear! I requested ‘Your Cloud’ and she seemed genuinely surprised and excited by this request, saying she hadn’t sang her in a few years. I noticed that when she wrote down my request, she drew a little cloud around it which was cute. As I was leaving, I apologised for being overly nervous and she smiled and said something like “Oh baby, don’t be silly – you did great. Thank-you so much for giving me this idea!” melt :-)

The show itself was brilliant. As already mentioned, the venue wasn’t full but this only served to make an already intimate venue even more cosy and personal. Tori appeared to be in a great mood, and mentioned at one point that she wished she could sit here and play requests all night. She also sang two lovely little improvs during the show, both of which were about requests.

Highlights of the show were a fiery Pancake, Father Lucifer and, of course, my request of Your Cloud which was a really lovely version performed on both keyboard and bose. The quartet were very impressive and really complimented Tori’s work. Others have said they felt that Siren didn’t really work with strings, but I thought it was immense. Spring Haze with strings was also special. There really wasn’t a dull point, she was on fire for the whole show and kept belting out the songs one after the other.

Not sure what else to say.. I thought the front row standing at the encores was a bit redundant tonight due to the small size of the venue (the front row was literally right in front of the stage, they could have leant on it while sitting down) and only served to block the view of those behind them but oh well, this is to be expected I guess.

This was my first time seeing Tori live and it really was everything I had imagined and more. There really is nothing like seeing this woman perform close up – a very special experience that I will always remember! Hope she comes back to Belfast on the next tour.

Here are the lyrics to the improvs if anyone is interested:-

“It’s been so long since I’ve done this song / I can’t remember it much anymore / It’s been so long since I’ve done this song / I almost forgot her name / Almost forgot her name, I say / can you believe I forgot her name? / I almost forgot her name, I say / I’m ashamed to admit that to you / It’s been so long since I’ve done this song / it’s been since 2005 / I was told this afternoon by a guy that it was 2005…”

“I have all kinds of songs to sing tonight to you / requests that you have asked me to / Gonna go away with you, gonna go away with you / Songs that you have asked me to / who wanna go away with you / go away with you and see the world / Songs that have come cause you asked me to / and they want to go away, away with you / they want to go away, away with you”

Really enjoyed reading the other reviews/comments. Scarlett I think we were indeed sitting beside each other! Such a small world that we both should post on here after the show! Really glad you enjoyed the show. It was nice to meet you that night.
