This was my fifth time seeing Tori and she was superb as always. The last time I saw her perform was Chicago during the Lottapianos tour so I was definitely excited for this show. Tori was very personable and funny at times. I think more so than I have ever witnessed. She started with Parasol then launched into a beautiful Doughnut Song. After this, Tori told the crowd most of the show would be requests and she would do her best to fit them in. Baker Baker was gorgeous and I was pleased to see Curtain Call too. Winter was a request and a few people in the crowd yelled out a thank you. Damage was very moving and Suede was very intense. Cool On Your Island. Wonderful.
As Tori launched into Lizard Lounge, she told a cute story about how her crew thought she was crazy for playing this song. It was Copacabana and it was a beautiful rendition. This woman is amazing. She followed with Rattlesnakes then began a story about how it had been forever since she did her next song and laid out a bunch of papers with her key changes. Happy Phantom was a treat. The rest of the “act” was great, with a highlight for me being Scarlet’s Walk. As for the encore, 16 Shades of Blue surprised me. I liked this song much more live than on the album. And she closed with Tear In Your Hand. Perfection.
During Cornflake Girl, a bunch of people went up to the stage and remained there the rest of the show. Tori shook their hands as she left the stage for the evening. Overall, a wonderful night.
Bosco says:
Tori was super cute and chatty and all aflitter with sheet music for STL to accomodate requests. She explained that she loved to trick audience members with the Lizard Lounge by playing the unexpected and making people say “oh no she didn’t!” — and she came through by playing a Barry Manilow standard and killing it.
The show ranged from the YKTR heartbreaker Cool on your Island to the Doll posse Digital ghost and was very heartfelt and passionate. Happy Phantom was a real treat, with a transition to the keyboard.
