    1. Maria says:

I was in both Helsinki shows, and both nights were excellent, but Tuesday’s set list was more of my liking. With that said, I hope a video of Monday’s Precious Things surfaces; it was so awesome- reminded me of how she used to play it in the 90’s. And of course Fire on the side! I nearly dislocated my jaw (seriously, lol) when she started playing it! It’s been on my “Tori bucket list” but I never thought she’d actually play it in Helsinki!

Anyways, Tuesday was brilliant, and it would’ve been the best Tori Amos concert I’ve been to if it hadn’t been for the encore. It was awful: those backing tracks are a big fat no for me, I cannot stand them at all, not by any artist, ever. Just no. Thankfully she played a gorgeous Jupiter in the end so it didn’t leave a completely bad taste in my mouth.

Her playing is top notch, vocals simply amazing, and I felt like she was very connected and into everything she was playing (minus the backing tracked songs). And she really let it rip with her vocals, it was just breathtaking! I never cry in public, but Playboy Mommy -> Curtain Call sequence hit home so hard I had a tough time trying not to break into complete hysterics and was actually glad she played China next since it’s not a favorite of mine and I was able to compose myself during it.

Something seemed to go a bit wrong towards the end though, she didn’t seem to get Code Red quite together, and when she turned towards the piano, she almost fell off her stool and looked quite startled, and launched right into Leather which was ok but it felt much like she was on autopilot during the song. Marcel came on the stage to check something (maybe the piano bench?) before the encore.

Thank you Tori for two amazing shows, and a big shout out to Petteri Sariola, I’ve seen him play many times and love him to bits, greatness! Mwah!

Also, for all you regulars sitting in the front row: I hope you know those seats were sold before the show and I paid for a front row seat, only to have it taken away a week before the show, and moved several rows backwards. So I really hope you appreciated your seats. Not all of us have the money, health and means to travel to multiple shows so the downgrade felt quite excruciating.

I didn’t even go to the meet and greet because I felt so bad to have my ticket taken away “by the artist”, as the promoters told me in person.

So, summa summarum; bittersweet but thankful for having been there.
