Legs & Boots Kick Back ... Overseas!

    Tuesday, July 22, 2008 | 04:44 UTC | Posted by woj | Releases

In a somewhat unexpected newsletter from the old Sony/Epic Tori Amos mailing list that appeared today, buried between the news about tonight’s signing at Amoeba and Wednesday’s Meebo chat, was the even more unexpected announcement that all twenty-seven Legs & Boots, the official live recordings from the North American leg of 2007’s American Doll Posse tour, will be available on iTunes in the United States tomorrow, July 22nd.

Other purveyors of digital music downloads will follow suit on August 5th, including iTunes outside of the States. While they do not specify which non-American iTunes stores will have the be included, it’s encouraging to see that they heard the voices of those outside of Canada and the States clamoring for a legal way to obtain these recordings and we’ll see, come early August, where the Legs & Boots become available.

    UPDATE

A loyal reader reports that each of the concerts is priced at $13.99. As they are released by Sony, they are lower bitrate, DRMed files. Except for the performance of “Code Red” in San Diego, each song can be purchased individually (to get that “Code Red,” you need to buy the entire concert).

According to this week’s iTunes New Music Tuesday newsletter there are only 26 concerts available:

Tori Amos’ fan base is well-known for being among the most dedicated of any artist, and the veteran singer/songwriter is letting her fans take the memories home with Boots and Legs, an exclusive live bootleg series available exclusively on iTunes. With 26 live concerts from the past year available today, the Boots and Legs series lets you have more Amos than you could dream of.

And sure enough, another loyal reader reports that the West Palm Beach recording is not available on iTunes. We haven’t heard any reason for this unfortunate omission. The West Palm Beach show is now on iTunes!

The CBT Promo Machine Reves Up...

    Monday, July 21, 2008 | 18:41 UTC | Posted by woj | Articles

Sneaking up two quick Comic Book Tattoo items between lunch and a conference call…don’t tell the boss!

First, Ain’t It Cool News spoke with Rantz Hoseley about the anthology and posted a feature on the book earlier this morning (thank you CrushingKrisis.com). Second, Spinner interviewed several of the people involved with the project, including Tori, Rantz, Colleen Doran, David Mack, and Ted McKeever. The article also includes some additional artwork from the collection.

This week will be stacked with media promotion for the book so keep an eye out!

    Amazon.com Muddies The CBT Waters...

    Thursday, July 17, 2008 | 22:37 UTC | Posted by woj | Cherries

Sabrina wrote us saying that she had gotten an e-mail from Amazon.com indicating that their stock of the Comic Book Tattoo limited edition hardcover had been replenished and, sure enough, the pre-order button over yonder is active again. We’re not sure how this jives with the word from Rantz that the limited edition is sold out but we would be remiss not to at least pass on the news. As there are only 1,000 of this slipcase-enclosed, hardcover editions signed by Tori, if Amazon really does have additional copies, they probably don’t have very many and you may want to act fast.

UPDATE: Rantz has confirmed that Amazon did receive an additional allotment of the limited edition. However, as we speculated, it is a small number so acting fast is recommended.

In the interest of the free market economy, it would be wrong for us not to point out that other booksellers such as Barnes & Noble, Powells, Borders and Tower Books, just to name a few, are still taking pre-orders for the limited edition as well. DavidMackGuide.com also has a list of stores to pre-order or, in the next week or two, purchase from. We also recommend the Comic Shop Locator Service if you want to patronize a local, independent store in your area. In fact, at this point, a local comic shop may be your best chance of finding a copy of the limited edition if it turns out the online booksellers are really blowing smoke with their pre-order pages.

On a related note, Mark Bednarz and susan received notice from Amazon that the estimated delivery date for their CBT shipments had been moved back to July 28th – 30th. While we can’t say for sure, we suspect that Amazon may be correcting the publication date for the book since, as ToriAmos.com says, the paperback and hardcover editions will be available in comic shops on July 23rd and everywhere else on July 29th while whatever copies of the limited edition do make it to stores will be available on July 30th.

UPDATE: And at least one person reports receiving confirmation that their copy of the book has shipped. Perhaps there is a paperback vs. hardcover vs. limited edition domension to be factored in here as well….

Amoeba CBT Signing For the Unwashed Masses!

    Thursday, July 17, 2008 | 03:24 UTC | Posted by woj | Cherries

Can’t get to San Diego or don’t have a Comic-Con International membership to attend the signing at the convention?

Well, if you’ll be in the Los Angeles area, you can take a stab at attending a public signing at Ameoba Music!

Tori will be stopping by the Hollywood Amoeba Records (6400 Sunset Blvd. at Cahuenga) for a Comic Book Tattoo signing at 6:00 PM PT on Monday, July 21st. The first 200 people to purchase CBT starting at 10:30 AM that day will receive a wristband granting them admission to the signing. Only one item can be signed per person and while you can get something other than CBT signed, you will still have to purchase a copy of the book to get a wristband.

Amoeba opens at 10:30 AM so if you plan on arriving before then, Amoeba requests that you form a line on the Ivar side of store.

For additional details, check out Amoeba’s page for the event.

Thanks to Becky for the alert!

Publishers Weekly on CBT (July 14, 2008)

    Wednesday, July 16, 2008 | 05:11 UTC | Posted by woj | Articles

When I read the whole thing in order for the first time, I couldn’t stop myself. It was almost as if I became an addict for it. What surprised me is that there are so many different styles represented here, and each one is unique unto itself. There isn’t one story that reminds me of another. With so many people involved, that is highly unusual.

That’s how Tori describes Comic Book Tattoo in this Publishers Weekly article which appeared on their website yesterday and in their Comic Week e-mail newsletter today. Read on for the rest! Thanks to Elizabeth for the tip!

    Out Interview (July 15, 2008)

    Wednesday, July 16, 2008 | 00:33 UTC | Posted by woj | Articles

Joseph Campbell was always saying that the myths are always alive in us, but religion has repressed this. So the myth that we have been forced to adhere to is the Christian myth and where is the homosexuality in the Christian myth? And where — for women — is the woman who has her sexuality and has her spirituality in the Christian myth? The Gnostics believe that all this was in Christ’s teachings and yet, it got edited out when it was taken over by the patriarchy. So, therefore, mythology is something that we’re starving for. These are our stories — this is in our DNA.

Noah Michelson interviewed Tori for Out magazine and the piece was published on the Out.com today. In the article, Tori and Noah discuss The Light Princess musical in some detail, her family, archetypes and myth, and, as Perez was quick to point out, Perez Hilton.

Thanks to Shannon and Amanda and everyone else for the heads-up!

    Comic Book Tattoo Blog Launches

    Wednesday, July 09, 2008 | 14:39 UTC | Posted by woj | Cherries

Comic Book Tattoo editor Rantz Hoseley, in cooperation with Comic Book Resources, has launched Comic BLOG Tattoo, a blog where he and the others involved in bringing the project to fruition will be writing about the inspiration for their stories and the process of creating them. Expect exclusive artwork, script pages and other behind-the-scenes features to be included too. Keep an eye on the site for regular updates from the other contributors who worked on the book — as well as a couple special surprises! The first post, where Rantz discusses his work on “The Waitress,” is up now.

Incidentally, as mentioned at the end of his post, he encourages folks who have questions about the book to post them in the CBR Forums where he and the other contributors will do their best to answer them.

MySpace Comics Feature on Tori and Comic Book Tattoo

    Wednesday, July 09, 2008 | 04:22 UTC | Posted by woj | Cherries

While the Undented Dork Posse took last weekend off for the long holiday weekend (Happy Tori Independence Day-er, wait-a-minute…), the promotional machine for Comic Book Tattoo continued to churn.

Last Wednesday, MySpace Comics featured a post on their blog (you may have to register with MySpace to view it) where Tori lists her five favorite artists and includes a complete preview of “Upside Down”, Mark Sable’s and Salgood Sam’s contribution to the anthology. Note: some may consider that piece NSFW — depending, of course, on where you work!

Thanks to everyone who let us know about this feature, particularly lushvalley who was the first to get us to pick up the phone…

And while we’re on the topic of Comic Book Tattoo, two other related items of interest have come to our notice.

First, Tim O’Shea interviewed CBT-contributor Elizabeth Genco about her recent project, Blue, but she also reveals the lyric that inspired her adaptation of “Here. In My Head” and drops the news that she had already written a Tori-inspired story, “Cooling”, which can be found on the Endicott Studios website.

Second, shyam points out that Canadian bookseller Chapters.Indigo is still taking pre-orders for the limited edition of the collection.
