Holy Crap! Is That Tori Amos On The Radio?

    Wednesday, April 16, 2014 | 00:04 UTC | Posted by woj | TV/Radio/Web

Tori’s in London and, seemingly, spent today doing a number of radio interviews – some live, some recorded for later broadcast. Translation: the promotional onslaught is underway!

First up, she called into Dave White’s program on BBC Radio Cornwall for a relaxed chat about Unrepentant Geraldines, the nature of“Trouble’s Lament,” turning 50, family, touring, and her uncanny effect on the Cornish weather. You can listen to it for the next seven days on the BBC website (it starts around the 1 hour, 44 minute mark) or you can stream just the interview itself on audioboo, to which the BBC has kindly uploaded the clip to:

Second, she phoned into the studios of FubarRadio to speak with presenter Mark Dolan. As one might expect, the topics covered were pretty much the same (steel yourself!), but she also dropped the big news that a full cast recording of The Light Princess is being recorded in the coming week and that it will be released next year! Playwright Samuel Adamson tweeted the same subsequently as well, so there is something to look forward to after Unrepentant Geraldines winds down by the end of the year! A partial recording of this interview popped up on Youtube, thanks to James Howarth:

Thirdly, a scan of Twitter revealed mention of several upcoming radio appearances to keep an eye out for. The ones we know about (all times are either British Summer Time or Irish Summer Time) are:

    1. Wednesday morning between 7 and 10 am on Gaydio during the Chris and Emma at Breakfast show (source).
    2. Wednesday afternoon between 2:30 and 4:30 pm on TodayFM with Tony Fenton (source)
    3. Saturday afternoon between Noon and 3 pm on Scotland 69am (source)
    4. Next week on Minster FM with Alex Brown (source).
    5. Sometime soon on Phil Marriot’s program on Gaydio (source)

Undoubtedly, there are other. Please let us know if you hear of one that we haven’t listed already!

Your April 14th Unrepentant Geraldines Update

    Tuesday, April 15, 2014 | 02:27 UTC | Posted by woj | Releases

Update: The album, with “Selkie” available for immediate download, has been added to the US and Canadian iTunes stores as well.

Note: iTunes describes the album as the “bonus track version.” It does not include the videos from the bonus DVD in the deluxe physical edition. It wouldn’t be surprising if a deluxe edition with the bonus video material is added later, so if you are interested in that, you might want to hold out for that edition to be added to iTunes.

While the announcement of the Unrepentant Geraldines Pre-Sale Sweepstakes indicated the album would be available for pre-order from iTunes starting Tuesday, April 15th, Apple’s friends in the United Kingdom added the album today and are already taking pre-orders for it. We’ve not been found the album available for pre-order in any other countries — though we’ve not checked each and every country’s storefront yet.

The album on iTunes UK contains one bonus track, “White Telephone to God,” a difference from the bonus track included in the deluxe CD/DVD edition of the record, “Forest of Glass.” There’s no indication whether or not “White Telephone to God” will be an iTunes exclusive or if that track will be available from all digital retailers. We’re hoping that mystery will be cleared up soon though, perhaps as early as tomorrow, as one would expect some sort of announcement about the album being added to iTunes for pre-order.

Curiously, the album track “Selkie” is available from the UK iTunes store now, without having to pre-order the record! We’re not sure if this is intentional, if the song is meant to be an immediate download when pre-ordering the record, or if it’s an error waiting to be corrected — but if you have an UK iTunes account, you can buy that song right now! Of course, you might as well pre-order the record while you’re at it.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, Rough Trade Records in New York City has announced that Tori will be making an appearance at their store in Williamsburg on the evening of Tuesday, April 29th at 7pm. The appearance will include a performance and an signing session. To get into the event, you’ll need to be pre-order the new record in person at the store starting at 9am on the morning of April 29th. That’ll get you a wristband which will grant you entry to the event that evening. Space is limited, reportedly to 200 wristbands, so you’ll have to get there early for a shot to get in.

    Reminder: Olivier Awards Today

    Sunday, April 13, 2014 | 14:43 UTC | Posted by woj | Cherries

Update: Unfortunately, none of The Light Princess nominations results in Olivier Award wins. Congratulations to all who did receive that honor and a heart-felt thanks from all of us to Paule, Rae, Simon, Rosalie, and everyone who worked on The Light Princess for making it a wonderful piece of musical theatre. Long may it float!

As the heat of the new album and tour turns up, we must not forget about the last chapter of Tori’s creative career: The Light Princess! And that is particularly true today as The 2014 Olivier Awards, which closes out the British theatre season, will be awarded today in London.

Four cast and creatives from The Light Princess were nominated: Paule Constable for Best Lighting Design, Rae Smith for Best Costume Design, Simon Baker for Best Sound Design, and Rosalie Craig for Best Actress in a Musical.

Best of luck to them today!

The awards ceremony takes place at the Royal Opera House, starting at 6:30 PM BST. If you’re in London, head over to the Covent Garden Piazza to enjoy a live stream of the ceremony presented by ITV as well as additional live music and entertainment. Or, if you’re like us, follow along on their website and Twitter to see how the evening unfolds.

Listen: Radio Eins Interview (April 9, 2014)

    Friday, April 11, 2014 | 23:42 UTC | Posted by woj | TV/Radio/Web

Following the album release kick-off on Tuesday, the album promo train kept on chugging with a stop by the studios of Radio Eins in Berlin on Thursday, April 10th. Tori spent about a hour chatting with programmer Anja Caspary about everything from Unrepentant Geraldines and Kurt Cobain to the origins of Armand van Helden’s “Professional Widow” remix and Tori’s Saab. Several songs were played, including “Trouble’s Lament” and, after the appearance completed, a portion of “Promise,” the duet with Tash on the new record.

Radio Eins has kindly posted audio of the interview for streaming although, unfortunately, all songs played were edited out. Still, the entirety of the interview was recorded by intrepid fans and you can check out the clip of “Promise” on Tumblr

Tour News: New Oregon Date, Cleveland On Sale

    Friday, April 11, 2014 | 23:42 UTC | Posted by woj | Touring

Britt Festivals has announced the line-up for their Summer 2014 season and it includes a new date on the North American leg of the Unrepentant Geraldines Tour: Saturday, July 19th. Britt’s shows take place at an outdoor venue in Jacksonville, Oregon, near the city of Medford, so it slides nicely into the three day gap between the Portland and Oakland shows on the 18th and 21st.

This show has not been added to the tour listing on ToriAmos.com yet but tickets went on-sale to Britt members today and will go on sale to the general public on May 16th. Check out the listing on the festival’s website for more information.

Also, in case anyone has forgotten, the Cleveland show at Cain Park on August 7th went on sale today via Ticketmaster.

More From The Making of Unrepentant Geraldines

    Wednesday, April 09, 2014 | 00:43 UTC | Posted by woj | Releases,TV/Radio/Web

A second clip of Tori discussing Unrepentant Geraldines was posted on the offcial YouTube channel today. In this minute long snippet, Tori talks about being — or not being — shocking and the interplay of age and message with respect to the new record.

    Check it out below:

Suppose that rules out another pig-suckling photograph, huh?

    Unrepentant Germany

    Tuesday, April 08, 2014 | 23:50 UTC | Posted by woj | Releases

Today was a good day to be in Germany — Berlin specifically — as Tori did a short performance during an invitation-only event kicking off the promotion of Unrepentant Geraldines.

Taking place at The Grand, attendees included record label dignitaries, music journalists, and a lucky few who win entrance to the event via a contest run by Klassik Akzente. The set included six songs: “Parasol,” “Lust,” “Trouble’s Lament,” “Selkie,” “Ribbons Undone,” and “Take To The Sky.” Following the set and networking, there was a meet’n‘greet as well.

Several photos were posted on the official Tori Amos Instagram from Berlin today, though none from the actual event itself. Hopefully, this is a good sign for more interesting transmissions from the road once the tour gets going next month!

Additionally, one fellow who was in attendance blogged about being there. A few other friends of the Undent were there as well and we are hoping to receive their accounts of the evening soon as well.

Unrepentant Details From Decca And Deutsche Grammophon

    Friday, April 04, 2014 | 02:27 UTC | Posted by woj | Releases

Even though Unrepentant Geraldines is being released on Mercury Classics and Universal Music Classics, the other classical music imprints under the Universal Music umbrella, Deutsche Grammophon (on which Tori’s last two records were released) and Decca Classics, share catalog information in the back-end of their online stores. So, it comes as no surprise that the album appeared in the release sections of both labels’ websites today, though it’s bit easier to find on Deutsche Grammophon’s.

Both labels include the same information about the three formats Unrepentant Geradlines will be released in: regular CD, deluxe CD/DVD and vinyl.

Track timings are shown for all songs with the regular album tipping the scales at 59 minutes long while the deluxe edition crosses the hour mark with the addition of the five minute long bonus track, “Forest of Glass.” Clicking on each track name reveals additional composer and performer credits, though they may not be complete as the only performers listed are Tori, Mac Aladdin (guitars), Mark Hawley (programming), and, on “Promise,” Tash — who, of course, would be Tori and Mark’s daughter Natashya Hawley.

The tracks on the deluxe edition DVD here also differ somewhat from Amazon’s listing. Where Amazon has three tracks, photoshoot footage, a studio video, and an interview, Deutsche Grammophon has four: “America,” two tracks both named “Unrepentant Geraldines” (which we take to the the interview and photoshoot footage), and “Trouble’s Lament.” So perhaps the deluxe edition will include an actual video of the single…or perhaps both it and “America” will be included as studio performances. Time will tell…

Deutsche Grammophon lists the vinyl edition as a two LP release, as does Amazon. Four 15 minute sides does seem a little excessive but is understandable given the album’s length and audio fidelity. It would be nice to maybe have three side of music and an etching on side D, a la Neko Case’s latest release on vinyl, but, frankly, we’re just happy to see it in this format no matter how it’s handled.

Thanks to mkgtweety for the pointer!

Today, ToriAmos.com announced The Unrepentant Geraldines Pre-Order Sweepstakes that, if you win, could net you front row tickets to one of the shows on the North American leg of the tour and the opportunity to meet her in person at that show!

To enter the sweepstakes, you’ll need to pre-order a copy of Unrepentant Geraldines, take a photo or a screenshot of the order confirmation, fill out the form on the sweepstakes page and upload the order confirmation image. Finally, you’ll also have to pick a stop on the tour that you would like to win tickets for or, if you are outside one of the markets she is playing and you are unable to travel to one, select vinyl to be in the draw for a personally signed vinyl copy of the album.

Note: the sweepstakes page indicates that Unrepentant Geraldines will be available for pre-order on iTunes on April 15th so if you’ve been holding out for it there, you’ll just have to wait a wee bit longer…

There will be 1 winner picked for each of the concerts on the North American leg of the tour. Each winner will get 2 front row tickets and a meet and greet with Tori at the show. Additionally, there will be 20 winners selected for the personally signed copies of the Unrepentant Geraldines vinyl.
