If She Was The Better Girl...

    Friday, September 30, 2011 | 02:45 UTC | Posted by woj | TV/Radio/Web

The daytime television program Better had Tori in as a guest last week and the appearance aired today, September 29th. Co-host JD Roberto chatted with Tori about how the new album Night of Hunters came to be and the themes that it deals with, followed by a lovely performance of “Edge of the Moon.”

You can watch the video clip on Better’s website — they don’t allow for embedding but one assumes it’s just a matter of time before it shows up on YouTube…

Tori Sits Down With Rolling Stone

    Friday, September 30, 2011 | 02:32 UTC | Posted by woj | TV/Radio/Web

Rolling Stone welcomed Tori to their studios for a chat and they’ve posted a video, just shy of 4 minutes long, of her visit. In the clip, which is different from the interview the German Rollling Stone shared a couple weeks ago, Tori talks about the link between Night of Hunters and the Light Princess musical she’s been working on as well as the variability of her set lists from city to city and night to night.

Check it out behind the fold — the video auto-plays and that’s just plain annoying!

Thanks to Geoff G for the link!

    Tori Swings By WFUV

    Friday, September 30, 2011 | 02:10 UTC | Posted by woj | TV/Radio/Web

The sleuthy EarWithFeet turned up a small but sweet set of photos taken when Tori visited the WFUV studios in New York City on September 23rd. All told, there are three shots of her playing the piano and one of her with WFUV deejay Darren DeVivo.

According to the set’s description, she recorded an interview and performance but, judging by WFUV’s past and future listings, the appearance has not aired yet. Definitely something to keep an eye out for — we’re guessing it would be featured in their Words and Music from Studio A series.

Fortunately, if anyone misses it, whenever it is aired, WFUV archives much of their guest appearances — check out the segments with Tori in their archives.

The second part of Perez Hilton’s conversation with Tori has been posted! In this second of two segments, they discuss touring, Lady Gaga and celebrity. Enjoy!

As with the other portion, Perez kindly provided a transcript which you can read on his site or below…thanks again to Devin for the tip!

Helsinki: The First Night of Hunters

    Thursday, September 29, 2011 | 02:31 UTC | Posted by woj | Touring

The first date of the Night of Hunters Tour is in the books! Kicking off the tour in Helsinki, Tori and the Apollon Musagète Quartett ripped through a set featuring several songs from the new record as well as reaching back into the back catalog for old gems.

Songs featured included “Shattering Sea” opening the performance, just as it opens Night of Hunters, “Suede,” “Baker Baker.” “Cruel,” and “Snow Cherries From France,” all performed with the Quartett! There were two solo sections during the main set as well, during which Tori performed “Mrs. Jesus,” “Marianne,” “Sister Janet,” and U2’s “Running To Stand Still.” Additionally, the first encore started with “A Multitude of Shades,” the instrumental piece the quartet wrote specifically for the tour — as promised in our interview with Pawel Zalejski. The full set list has been posted in the Tour section.

The main set opened and closed with the quartet and, as mentioned, included two solo segments, leaving a third segment with the quartet in the middle. There were two encores, the first with the quartet and the second mostly solo until the final number, “Carry.” We shall see if this formula remains the case for other shows on the tour or if the plan for the shows varies as it progresses and develops…

Finally, if you were at the show, we’d love to hear what you thought of the concert! If you are inclined to share, please leave a review using the comment form on the show’s page! Video and photography are welcomed too!

Don't Look Now! It's The Night Of Hunters Tour!

    Wednesday, September 28, 2011 | 03:58 UTC | Posted by woj | Touring

Tomorrow, Wednesday, September 28th, the European leg of the Night of Hunters Tour gets under way in Helsinki, Finland, followed closely by the two Russian shows, St. Petersburg on Friday and Moscow on Sunday. After that, Tori meanders around the rest of the Continent, the UK, South Africa and North America, ending the tour in Texas in late December.

As with the past few tours, we’ll be doing our best to keep you abreast of setlists, reviews and media from the tour in our Tour section including, as we can, posting setlists as they happen on each concert page and on our Twitter.

If you’ll be attending a show and would like to help out with live-updating that concert — either via Twitter, text or some other form of communication — we’d love to hear from you! You can get in touch using the contact form or by DM/reply on Twitter (we have a Facebook page too but that’s not really the best way to reach us).

And, while we’re on the tour subject, it appears that Norwegian Thomas Dybhal has been selected to open for the North American dates of the tour. While there’s no mention of this on his website, it was announced on his Facebook page. Do check him out!

Huffington Post Interview (September 27, 2011)

    Wednesday, September 28, 2011 | 03:51 UTC | Posted by woj | Articles

I wanted to explore the feeling that relationships right now can be very disposable. People call their divorce attorney so quickly — and I’m not saying that divorce isn’t the answer for some people, because it is — but, I do think there are people that don’t really want to look in the mirror and look soon enough.

Deborah Finding’s interview with Tori for Huffington Post Divorce (one of the Life & Style sections of that online newspaper) focuses on relationships and family, two topics that have come up often in many articles so far but, given some room to breath, turn out to have more meat on the bone than one might expect.

Arte Features on Tori and Night of Hunters

    Wednesday, September 28, 2011 | 03:16 UTC | Posted by woj | TV/Radio/Web,Video

The French/German arts television channel Arte has featured two video clips with Tori on their Arte Journal blog. The first is an edited piece, with French or German overdubs, of Tori being interviewed at her house in Kinsale, Ireland (though you can make out Tori’s original comments in English pretty easily if you are not fluent in those languages) while the second is a fascinating clip of Tori talking at length about the song “Battle of Trees” from Night of Hunters.

With apologies to German readers, we have embedded the French language clips below. You can access the German ones here or by toggling the language selector in the lower right-hand corner of the video player.

Wears The Trousers Interview (September 26, 2011)

    Wednesday, September 28, 2011 | 01:51 UTC | Posted by woj | Articles

I think I cut my teeth on variations on a theme with Midwinter Graces: figuring out how to look at a blueprint of another work, how to enter into that work without damaging it, how to extract the part I needed and to expand upon it to reach a new expression. But when you’re messing with the masters, it’s a bit different from messing with a Methodist minister who was writing carols.

Alan Pedder’s conversation with Tori for wears the trousers’ “words in edgewise” interview series is a lovely piece that, unlike much of the other recent interviews, takes full advantage of a webzine’s lack of column inch limitations to expand upon and connect the dots between Tori’s talking points.

That said, it’s not all old news! She does drop a few new hints about the tour that is on our doorstep, her mixture of contemporary masters — The Beatles — with the classical masters, addresses the songs “Job’s Coffin” in greater detail than we have seen before and has a bit more to say about the upcoming retrospective collaboration with The Metropole to celebrate the 20th anniverary of Little Earthquakes.

Kudos to Alan and wears the trousers for a great article which is most definitely worth your while!
