    News: Amoeba Records Signing

Posted by woj on Tuesday, July 22, 2008 | Cherries

Glo kindly linked us to her Flickr set of photographs taken at the Amoeba Records Comic Book Tattoo signing earlier tonight. Click the photo below to whisk your “browsr” to Flickr to see the rest … and if anyone else was able to attend the signing and would care to share stories or photos from the event, please let us know!

    UPDATE

Amoeba Records has posted a photo gallery on their site (thanks Melissa and Mary!).

Rantz posted several photos from the signing on his Flickr as well.

Kristopher wrote about the signing on his blog and also posted a snippet of video on YouTube.

Glo also grabbed some video from the signing and worked it up for YouTube. Needless to say, it’s not entirely serious!

Lisa sent us her report about the signing:

I’d pretty much written off the Amoeba signing and figured there was no way I could go because I was working and the wristband/book sales were starting at 10:30… but my wonderful Tori friend Misty called me around 3pm and she found out Amoeba still had over 100 wristbands left! So, I jetted out of work a bit early, raced downtown and got a book and wristband and got in line. They had us line up outside first according to the number on our wristband and then brought us inside to wait. While we were outside, Rantz walked by us and introduced himself and signed a few books and seemed very excited :). The book itself is large and visually stunning – 480 pages in color! And it’s very very heavy… Originally I hadn’t planned on buying it all (bad Tori fan!) since I’m not much into comic books, but I had finally decided to order the limited edition off of Amazon this past weekend. Amoeba was selling the limited edition at full price, so I opted for the hardback instead and canceled my Amazon order. It’s very interesting and there are a lot of different comic art styles represented in the book. If you are at all a comic fan, you will probably love it, and if you’re not, it’s still a beautiful book and fascinating to see the different stories that were inspired by Tori’s songs.

Anyway, the signing was supposed to start at 6pm, but it was about 6:40pm by the time everyone cheered Tori’s arrival and the line started moving. (They had just barely finally sold out the wristbands.) I took a few (rather blurry) pictures in between heads when we got closer to her, but the Amoeba staff asked us not to take photos, so that was all I got (I’ll upload the few ok ones to Flickr and send a link in later). She was originally behind a table sitting, but at one point jumped up and went around the table to vigorously hug one girl (very cute) and after that stayed on our side of the table, which was nice. She had on the red posse wig (when do we get to see her hair again?) and a brown dress and looked great and smiley.

When it was my turn, she recognized me and gave me a big hug and asked how I was and said I looked great :-). I told her she looked great too and asked how she was doing. She said she was enjoying being a mom and I asked how Tash was doing. She said "we’re still 7" but it was good, and I asked if 7 was a good age and she said it was and seemed very happy. I told her my sister was pregnant with a girl (exciting!); it was a nice little chat and she signed my book and said it was good to see me, which made me very happy :).

All in all, a very nice surprise for me since I hadn’t expected to be able to go at all (and sad for Misty, who didn’t make it). It was also a lot nicer than the Tower signing last year, since the staff at Amoeba all seemed pretty casual and no one was rushing us through like last time. Also, Adam, the nice guy in line next me, was lucky enough to get tickets for the Comic Con and was planning to go to the panel discussion on Saturday. He mentioned this to her and she said she was planning to wear a costume for it :) hopefully someone will take some pictures or get some video for us!

    Lori writes…

I was at the Amoeba signing and wanted to share my experience. Rantz was there and he was really friendly with the crowd. He had a camera crew with him and was filming the crowd. I don’t know if he was doing this on behalf of Tori or for some other reason. He mingled with the crowd a lot and signed the book for anyone who wanted his signature. He was really great. I overheard someone asking him about the fact that on the back cover (next to the ISBN) states the book as “Comic Book Tattoo, Vol. 1” He said that he didn’t know anything about that and was shocked to see it when he got the books back from the printers in China. So I hope people don’t get their hopes up for the next volume.

And of course, Tori was great. She was her usual self, being really nice and taking time with each and every one of us. Bare in mind, this was the first time I met her, but she lived up to her reputation. She’s just the best.
