News: Bucharest Concert Preview From Nine O'Clock

Posted by woj on Friday, July 13, 2007 | Articles

Nine O’Clock, an English language newspaper in Romania, drums up some enthusiasm for Tori’s concert tonight at Sala Polivalenta in Bucharest. Apparently there are still some of the cheaper seats left for this show, but not many. Hopefully, those seat are as comfortable as those required in the green room by Tori’s rider!

Bucharest – Today, starting with 20.00 hours, the Polivalenta Hall in Bucharest will be host to the much awaited concert Tori Amos is to hold in Romania as part of the promotion tour for the ‘American Doll Posse’ Album, which was released in May in Rome.

The American singer arrived in Bucharest yesterday accompanied by an 18 person team, among which was her husband – Mark Hawley.

The artist did not have extravagant demands, yet she asked for a relaxing atmosphere in her artist booth, the latter having to be furnished with comfortable furniture and decorated with nice colors.

The Tori Amos show will last approximately two hours and will take place on a stage specially arranged for the show. The choreography and the light show were specially conceived for the artists’ current tour, in which she promotes her newest album, ‘American Doll Posse’.

Also for the concert she will bring her personal piano, a Model 290 Grand Imperial Bosendorfer, which weighs almost a ton.

The thing that makes the Tori Amos concerts a unique experience is their stage management, which changes each time. The first part of the concert is reserved to one of Tori’s four alter egos, created for the current album – Clyde, Pip, Isabel and Santa – and the public never knows what is in store for them. The second part of the concert is always reserved for Tori. Beside the characters played by the artist, Matt Chmaberlain (drums), Jon Evans (bass guitar) and Dan Phelps (guitar) will appear on stage.

Tori Amos was born on August 22, 1963 in North Carolina, USA. She is the daughter of a Methodist priest of Scottish origin and the representative of a family of Cherokee Indians. At the age of three she exhibited an uncommon musical talent, learning to play piano all by herself. At the age of five she won a scholarship at the Baltimore Conservatory, thus becoming the youngest student there. At 11 she signed her first classical music composition, and six years later she debuted in different jazz clubs, discovering punk music. After graduating from the Conservatory, she moved to Los Angeles. Since then eight studio albums have followed, a cover album, two ‘best of’ collections, eight world tours and five Grammy nominations for the best alternative music album.

According to the concert organizers, Phoenix Foundation, there are only a few tickets currently available, with the price ranging from RON 80 to 100, the expensive tickets (RON 120 and 150) being sold out. The available tickets can still be bought online on the www.bilet.ro, www.bilete.ro, www.phoenix.ro websites as well as from Carturesti Libraries.
