Franko says:
Superb show but far too short, less than am hour and a half. The Lizard Lounge segment was awesome. Eyes Without a Face was so beautiful and Extreme Ways was one of the best live performances she’s ever given. Loved Raspberry Swirl solo and even the Leather singalong was fun. Disappointing not to hear more from Unrepentent Geraldines but at least I was able to buy a copy in the foyer and play it in my hotel room after. Top form though which reminded me of the 90’s shows that bring back so many special memories.

I always want to post a short review after I see Tori live but I’m afraid I’ve run out of positive things to say. How many times one can repeat AMAZING?
Northern Lad performance was so AMAZING that I wouldn’t expect smth like that can happen on this planet. Tori is the best. “Changing glasses” improv + Fairytale. I rest my case.

The meet and greet was held inside a… I don’t know what to call it. Just a little backstage foyer area I guess, it was really ugly with fire extinguishers and such. It was one of my favorite meets, we had a nice chat.
I had a seat in row O on the far right for this show, but I managed to upgrade to a fourth row aisle seat, so that was great! And having an aisle seat was great for the stage rush, which, considering the historic moment we got at this show, was all I could’ve asked for!
- Parasol: Stunning as ever.
- Taxi Ride: Manchester has a massive gay community/scene, apparently, so I was hoping for all the “gay songs” to come out (spoiler alert: they did).
- Lust: This was a request. I’ve been in love with this one lately, but she forgot the lyrics and just kind of made some up on the spot. It was still incredibly lovely, but I hope to get to hear this one again without hiccups!
- Northern Lad: The crowd went wildddd! And she banged the piano really hard at the “when pianos try to be guitars” line. She nailed the high notes when singing “‘cause of the rain” so well.
- Bouncing off Clouds: I was surprised she did it again the very next day! Not much to say, again, never been a big fan of the solo rendition, but I loved the “that won’t bring her back” line, though she repeats it in such a way that almost makes it look like she messed up, but she did it like that in Glasgow as well so I think it’s intended.
- Silent All These Years: I adore this song, lyrically, though I guess it’s overplayed by now – I just really dislike the piano intro for some reason. It was still lovely, my first time hearing it solo (got it twice at the orchestra shows).
- A Sorta Fairytale: The improv she did before this is my favorite I’ve ever gotten – she sang about having the wrong glasses on for this, and used some lines from Voodoo actually, before changing her glasses with just one hand, it was really adorable. A Sorta Fairytale was magical, and I was glad I finally got it after overhearing it at the Caprices soundcheck but her not playing it in the end.
- Eyes Without a Face (Billy Idol cover): She told a story about how she learned this song because she went up for an audition as a keyboard player for Billy way back in the day? It was quite lovely, even though I wasn’t familiar with it.
- Extreme Ways (Moby cover): I also had no idea what this was, but her voice was in her low register for pretty much all of it, the piano playing was stunning, and it was just generally super fierce and it rocked my world!! I seriously loved the shit out of this.
- Pancake / Ohio: One of my absolute favorites off Scarlet’s Walk, and the Ohio bridge was great, I don’t think she’s ever added that in live when playing solo, except on this tour.
- Baker Baker: Heard it three times before, once solo and twice with orchestra, but it’s always a pleasure when it pops up. Love the metaphors and the running line.
- Graveyard / Frog On My Toe: I was 98% sure it was going to be Merman when she started playing Graveyard, but what a fantastic surprise, and then she went straight into Frog On My Toe and I died!!! One of my all-time favorite b-sides, and such a rarity, I was SO happy as I was going to request it later on!
- i i e e e: I loved it so much more than I did the night before in Glasgow, I don’t know why, but it was just stunning. Goosebumps every time she changes from the organ to the piano, it’s just an amazing arrangement. I’ve actually decided that I really love the organ on this one, especially in light of the “we scream in cathedrals” lyric.
- Cornflake Girl: I stage-rushed and made it to the very front for this. It was the first time hearing this one live, and I fucking love the backing track, haters gonna hate! It’s so much fun and you can tell how much she enjoys playing it. Never thought I’d be excited about Cornflake Girl, honestly!
- Leather: She told us she was recording us, and wanted us all to sing along on this, it was so much fun! We sang one entire verse all by ourselves and she looked so happy about it, she’s just the cutest.
- Raspberry Swirl: This was unexpected. First time ever solo Raspberry Swirl and it brought down the house. I have no words. Go watch it.
- 16 Shades of Blue: I fucking love that she ended this fantastic set for which she was on fire with a song about being too old to play. It sounded great, kazoo included, haha.
This was my all-time favorite show, hands down. I felt like the energy wasn’t as good as in Glasgow, but still amazing, and the setlist was out of this world, so it balanced out. Again, 11 song debuts for me!
