Another wonderful show by Tori, this one IMHO aimed at the long time fans. She mentioned that she was doing a lot of requests during this one which may explain a slightly esoteric setlist. Let’s get the obvious out – she played Floating City from YKTR, and it was incredible – even better and more epic than it’s recorded version. Other than that the show seemed sad, heavy and relationship (and woman) oriented. Many of the songs were “extended” versions which may explain why she ran of time for the encores.

Tori seriously reworked and extended Parasol, Voodoo and CALS amongst others, often to a great effect, however this was not for the purists. She bravely attempted “We Found Love” but frankly the song had so little meat that she ended up radically reworking to perhaps questionable effect. My only other gripe about the set is the very cheesy backing track during Cornflake Girl – I didnt think it worked on the UtP tour and seemed to be even worse on this one. Tori is so much about the improve that hearing her try to fit in with the track made me cringe. Still it’s a small misstep in an otherwise spellbinding show.

She played like a woman who has something to prove and for me she did. She still has that magic that made me a fan many years ago and a believer to this day.

      OMG! Such a great show!

So I told Tori my sob story during the meet and greet about having my heart broken by this A**hole hipster, and that Pele carried me through my emotional mess this past year. I asked if she could play Beauty Queen/Horses and she played it! WOOT!

Personally, I loved the We Found Love cover. It was dark. Just what mama likes.

The backing tracks for Cornflake Girl and 16 Shades of Poo, I mean Blue, were a little weird.

All in all, a solid set list, and amazing energy.

This was such a special show. I heard people complaining about it, which I just don’t understand. She plays an incredible show. Vocally, she was so strong. I was delighted over the seltlist. She really shone on Horses, Garlands, We Found Love, and Etienne. I am never disappointed when I see her. The backing tracks were not so much weird for me, because other artists, like Charlotte Martin, who tour solo, utilize them. I would have liked to see more newer material, like Ophelia, Starling, or Smokey Joe, but I can’t complain too much because I loved what we did get AND! we got TWO, count ‘em, TWO YKTR songs.

The setlist seemed vulnerable China through I Found Love, and then seemed to have a mustered confidence through outro. She has such a great energy this tour. I wish I could have gone to more shows.
