    1. Lorraine Eakin says:

Last night I said it was a living room show – not so tonight. Tonight was a performance.. Both had their charms, but I preferred tonight’s show. She wailed, she writhed, she let loose – it felt very “classic” Tori.

Crucify has gone back to its roots in recent years where it belongs, after wandering from full band to Wurlitzer to Kurzweil and back to band. She did an old-school version of this one for Dublin, and the crowd went nuts.

Wild Way made its debut – she said something like “this is a little love song” before sweetly singing “I hate you” over and over. This one is really beautiful – I think people will respond well to this new one.

CALS and Sister Janet were powerful and always excellent. Never seen a bad version of either. I HAVE, on the other hand, seen mediocre versions of Orange Knickers, but DAMN. She KILLED it. You may not believe it, but it was a major highlight. By the end she was wailing “am I alone in this” like she was possessed. If I hadn’t been there, I wouldn’t believe it either.

She followed with a KILLER Damage. I might be overusing my caps lock key in this review. But it was just beautiful and heartbreaking. She was a bit emotional by the end.

Lizard Lounge was uneventful, but the improv was charming – about playing around at the piano bars with her gay pals who called her the “lady lizard in training.” She mentioned the old bar is near where they plan to build a women’s history museum. She also quipped that she had to wear glasses all the time now and that she needs to wear glasses to fight with her husband.

The crowd was moved by Winter – lots of whispered singing could be heard around the theatre. Trouble is getting stronger. And TTTS just freaking rocked it – she beat that piano within an inch of its life. The crew wheeled out the keyboard and wheeled in the organ during TTTS.

iieee – oh goodness. I remember being a bit scared of her version of Raining Blood – this is a little like that. She begins on the organ where it’s slow and haunting – then moves to the Bose at “just say yes.” There was a tech issue at this point and she gestured for help – a crew guy ran out and fixed whatever it was, but she didn’t miss a beat playing.

She came out for the encore and said she’d do something she would probably mess up, but that we love her so we’d forgive her. Then the opening notes of the Cornflake backing track started – a la 1994 tour – and the crowd went NUTS. It’s better with Matt, of course. But the crowd loved it!

Speaking of which, she said before Leather that she heard Irish crowds sing with perfect pitch, and she invited a singalong for Leather, which was much more charming than Leather is usually.

Toast I had never seen – touching. I was in tears.
Spectacular set of shows – the world is in for a treat this go-round, I think. Oh, and early on she did an improv about adding more dates that weren’t yet announced. Exciting!
