ToriAmos.com Announces New Album, 2014 World Tour!

While we spent the day speculating about tour dates, ToriAmos.com was busy getting ready to announce the release of Tori’s next album, titled Unrepentant Geraldines, and the European dates on her upcoming 2014 tour:

Tori has announced the release of her brand new album, Unrepentant Geraldines, in spring 2014.

This will be Tori’s 14th studio album which will be supported by an extensive world tour starting May 7th, 2014 in Dublin and heading across Europe including shows at London’s Royal Albert Hall and dates in Berlin, Paris, Amsterdam, Moscow, Warsaw and other major cities. Dates in the US and the rest of the world will follow later in 2014 and will be confirmed soon.

Note that most of the shows go on sale this week! We’ll be getting the Tour section updated as quickly as our fingers will allow with ticket links, etc.!

All I Want For Christmas Is A 2014 Tour...

Nearly a year ago, in an online interview for El Mundo, Tori indicated that, after focusing on The Light Princess in 2013 and releasing a new record, she would probably tour again in 2014. During meet and greets prior to some of The Light Princess performances, she echoed the same plans, talking about a new record and a tour in 2014 as well.

Of course, nothing has been officially announced this early but, as often happens, some possible dates and locations have surfaced via other means…

First, Rome’s Auditorium Parco della Musica sent out a press release about their upcoming 2013-2014 musical season which included Tori in list of performers. No date was given and nothing has been added to their event calendar yet but, as @GianniSpigno reported on Twitter, the newspaper Corriere said that Tori would be performing at the Auditorium on June 2nd as part of their on-going La Voce series.

Second, Vlad tipped us off to this listing which has Tori performing at the Music Hall in St. Petersburg, Russia on June 14th. Unsurprisingly, nothing is mentioned on the venue’s website nor are there any additional clues to be found on the website of the Polygon Agency which the QRickets listing implies is involved with the show. We’re also hearing about two other shows in and around Moscow but don’t have any details yet. Update: RedKassa.ru is listing a show at Crocus City Hall in Moscow on June 15th.

Update: Nicotine Love also found this event on vk.com which it indicates the show will go on sale on November 25th.

Update: DocSnyder also points out a “ghost” listing in Eventim’s iOS app which has a listing for dates from May 19th through June 10th. The listing, which is cryptically titled “Tori Amos: The Unrepenta…” (it doesn’t fit), has no further information but the Eventim website calls it The Unrepentant Geraldines Tour as does the German concert site Kartine.de. No dates are listed though.

Update: DocSnyder spied five German dates on BonnTicket: May 19th in Frankfurt, May 20th in Berlin, May 29th in Hamburg, June 9th in Stuttgart, and June 10th in Munich. Note that BonnTicket indicates that tickets for all but Stuttgart will be available at 9:00 AM Monday, November 25th. We’re not sure if BonnTicket is a reseller or an outlet so we’ll have to see how that plays out.

As always, we emphasize that these dates are, as of yet, unconfirmed and may or may not happen. But they do fit in the timeline of what little we know about what 2014 has in store for us so we certainly wouldn’t be surprised if they come to pass…

This Week In The Light Princess

After a few days off, The Light Princess returns to the Lyttelton Theatre’s stage this weekend with shows Friday evening through Tuesday evening, including weekend matinees and an audio-described performance on Saturday afternoon for those on the National Theatre’s Access List. Tickets are still available for all performances. After Tuesday, there are no performances until the end of November so this will be a good chance to catch the show this month!

Kicking off this weekend’s stint, actress Rosalie Craig will be doing a Twitter Q&A on the National Theatre’s Twitter account at 3:00 PM GMT. If you have a burning question for the Crown Princess of Lagobel, tomorrow will be your chance to ask her about it!

Additionally, it appears the musical’s run has been extended into February as the National’s overview indicates that the final performance is on February 2, 2014. The ticketing system does not list any performances beyond January 9th yet but it does have a tab for February so we expect these additional dates to be appear soon.

Update: The additional performances in January and February have been added and will go on sale on Monday, November 11th at 11:00 AM GMT. The dates added include performances from January 17th to 22nd and January 28th to February 2nd.

Finally, nominations for the 2014 WhatsOnStage Awards are now live. These awards are interesting as they are the only theatre awards decided entirely by the public. Throughout the month of November, anybody can nominate anyone or any show in any category. The shortlist for each award, based on all the nominations, will be announced on December 6th followed by voting through the end of January and the final awards ceremony on February 23rd.

The Evening Standard Longlists The Light Princess

The longlist for the 59th London Evening Standard Theatre Awards has been announced and The Light Princess has been recognized in three categories: Rosalie Craig in the new category Best Musical Performance, Rae Smith in Best Design and the production itself in Best Musical.

The shortlist will be announced on November 8th and the awards presented during a November 17th ceremony at The Savoy.

The Light Princess Platform Tonight

This evening, prior to tonight’s performance of The Light Princess, Paul Gambaccini will sit down with Tori and playwright Samuel Adamson to discuss the musical in a National Theatre platform. The conversation takes place at 6:00 PM and tickets in the circle are still available.

We’re hoping that audio or video of the platform will become available from the National Theatre via their podcasts or Youtube channel in the near future…but if you attend and want to let us know how it went, please let us know.

Listen To The Front Row Appearance

If you missed Mark Lawson’s conversation with Tori Amos and Samuel Adamson on yesterday’s Front Row, the archive is now available on BBC iPlayer for the next week. Additionally, the program is also available as a podcast where you can either stream or download it. The conversation is actually quite an interesting one. Recorded prior to press night for the production, Tori and Sam talk about where the idea for the production came from, the songs (Tori’s demos of most songs exist but locked away in the vault!), the unlikeliness of an album featuring the songs as performed by Tori, the possibility of her reusing some of the songs in her own work, working with Marianne Elliot on the staging, and their thoughts on doing something like this again.

Definitely worth the listen.

Tori On Front Row Today

While we’re a bit behind on the site (though the Twitter and Facebook feeds are humming along), we’re hoping to get things back up to snuff here shortly. However, one quick note to make sure no one misses it: Tori will be one of Mark Lawson’s guests on his BBC Radio 4 program Front Row today at 7:15 PM BST.

The show will be on iPlayer for the next week if you want to catch it later.

The Light Princess Premieres!

Tonight was the first night of previews — the world premiere, as it were, though some might reserve that phrase for the press night on October 9th — for The Light Princess, the new musical penned by the creative team of Samuel Adamson and Tori Amos for The National Theatre in London.

Congratulations to them, the cast, musicians, crew,and everyone working behind the scenes for making the show a reality!

While press reviews won’t appear for some time to come (well, probably), the early accolades on the Internet are very positive! Dip your toes in the Twitter stream of Light Princess love to get a taste of what people are saying. And, lest we forget, Facebook has hashtags now too and, shockingly, some people are even using them! Check it, though you’ll only see public posts and anything from your friends.

Of course, we’d love to hear what those fortunate enough to attend any performance have to think about of the musical. If you would like to share (and we hope you do), please send us a review using the form at the bottom of that there page. We’ll be posting your reviews there as well — and a couple are already there, in fact. After all, early birds get the worm…or so they say. Whoever they are.

In any case, best wishes and heartfelt thanks to all who have worked to make this project a reality and may all who wish to be able to see it someday!

Ladies and Gentlemen, Start Your Previews!

It’s been over six years since the first rumors that Tori was working on a musical started to circulate but now, after reworkings, rewrites, and delays, The Light Princess is finally on the verge of being seen for the first time! Previews start this Wednesday and continue into early October with the big press night two weeks hence on Wednesday, October 9th. We wish the cast and crew the best of luck as all their hard work at last comes to fruition on the stage of the Lyttleton Theatre!

We’re also looking forward to reading the reviews and thoughts on the musical from both the media as well as fans, both new and old, who will be fortunate enough to attend a performance. Much like the tour pages, we’ll have a page set up for the musical so all of us can post and share our own thoughts on The Light Princess. Stay tuned for details on that…

In the meantime, word is that there was a significant feature on the musical in this past Saturday’s Telegraph supplement that included in-depth reporting on the cast and rehearsals. At this time, that article is not online though we hope it will be soon. If anyone can provide a report on this piece, we’d love to hear what it includes.

Time Out London Interview (September 17, 2013)

I realised that I had become something that when I was five years old I would never have believed I could become. I went to a friend’s house and played the piano and felt as if I’d completely lost my soul. And so, in that moment I made a commitment to music and art and I would never compromise that never. Not for musical theatre, not for anything, not for anyone. Nobody.

Time Out London, which recently declare The Light Princess the top theatre prospect for the coming season, featured this interview in this week’s edition of the free weekly. In it, Tori and Jonny Ensall discuss the musical and her work on it and link it back to parenting and musical integrity.

The feature also includes three new, lovely photographs by Jean Goldsmith. One adorns this post — check out the other two in the article on Time Out London’s website.
