Help Andy Raise Funds For Rape Crisis

    Monday, April 08, 2013 | 23:04 UTC | Posted by woj | Toriphiles

Andy Tebbutt, who long-time Toriphiles may recall, along with his co-conspirator Emma, as a regular contributor to The Dent, is running in the Bupa Great Manchester Run on May 26th to raise awareness and funds for Rape Crisis.

Rape Crisis, a registered charity in the UK, is the umbrella organization for a network of local, independent rape crisis centres throughout England and Wales that provide support, counselling and advocacy for women and girls who have experienced sexual violence. Rape Crisis also works to raise awareness about sexual violence, its effects, and the need for support for surviviors as well as operating a national helpline for those in need.

You can read much more about Rape Crisis, their mission and their activities on their website but, in a nutshell, Rape Crisis does much of the same work that RAINN does here in the United States and, while somewhat less known, is no less worthy of our support.

If you’re interested, check out Andy’s fundraising page at JustGiving and, if you’d like to help out, make a secure donation in Andy’s name — and feet — to Rape Crisis there.

    More From Caprices

    Tuesday, March 12, 2013 | 02:39 UTC | Posted by woj | Touring

The first few YouTube videos from Sunday’s performance at the Caprices Festival have started to show up. All that we’ve found so far, including “Take To The Sky,” “Personal Jesus”/“Body and Soul,” and “Mountain,” have been added to the Caprices page in the Tour section.

Additionally, some reviews and other media bitsies have appeared elsewhere.

Caprices’ media-partner 20 Minutes has posted a partial clip of “Bouncing Off Clouds” from the concert and an interview clip done at the festival on the video portal. A few photographs from the concert can also be found buried in 20 Minutes’ Caprices slideshow. Thanks to Mandy for the tip on those!

Music block Rock Subculture is on the ground at the festival and have posted a review of the entire Sunday evening program. The review is quite glowing but, perhaps of more interest to most of us, it includes a slew of photographs from the concert. Thanks to mkgtweety for sending us that link!

Update: Le Nouvelliste has a photo gallery from the festival where a few more shots of Tori’s performance can be found. Thanks again to Mandy!

More as other stuff pops up!

From The Other Side Of The Mountain

    Monday, March 11, 2013 | 00:27 UTC | Posted by woj | Touring

Tori’s performance at the Caprices Festival in Switzerland is in the books. Thanks to @luiscueto, who kindly tweeted from the show, the full setlist is up in the Tour section already.

The one-off concert was, unsurprisingly, a solo performance that featured “Take To The Sky” including the “room in my heart” bridge from “Datura,” “Little Earthquakes,” “Putting The Damage On,” and the rarely-played “Mountain” in the encore! The set was also rife with covers from her hallmark rendition of Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” to, joining “Mountain” in the encore, The Cure’s “Lovesong” and U2’s “Running To Stand Still.”

We’d love to hear the thoughts and reviews of those who were at the show! If you were and would like to share, please post a review using the comment form at the bottom of the setlist’s page.

Just A Little Reminder Dear: Caprices Festival This Sunday

    Saturday, March 09, 2013 | 15:03 UTC | Posted by woj | Touring

Lest anyone forget, Tori will be in concert at the Caprices Festival in Crans-Montana, Switerland this weekend! The one-off solo performance takes place Sunday, March 10th at La Luna (The Moon).

Also on the bill are the Israeli singer Noa and Roger Hodgson, whom some may remember as a member of Supertramp — not a bad line-up at all!

Doors for the show open at 6:00 PM and the concert is scheduled to start at 7:00 PM CET. Tori’s headling so she should be on a hour or two after that.

Hope that everyone who is travelling to Crans-Montana for the show has a safe trip and enjoys the performance! If anyone who is going would like to text us the setlist or will be posting it on Twitter, please let us know!

    Pro Motion Interviews Tori

    Saturday, March 02, 2013 | 21:18 UTC | Posted by woj | TV/Radio/Web,Video

Tori recently sat down with Pro Motion, a dance music marketing and prodution company involved with Peter Rauhofer’s “Flavor” remixes for an interview. Video of the interview was posted on their blog at the end of this week. During the relatively lengthy, as video interview clips go anyway, piece, she talks about “Flavor,” songwriting, and her thoughts on dance music as well as reminding us that that she’s working on a new non-classical record for 2014.

    Check out the interview below:

Flavor Reaches #1 On The Billboard Club Play Chart

    Saturday, March 02, 2013 | 21:18 UTC | Posted by woj | Releases

Congratulations to Tori and Peter Rauhofer for the ascent of Rauhofer’s remix of “Flavor” to the top of the Billboard Dance/Club Play chart for the week of March 9th! The remix entered the chart, which is compiled from a sample of DJs are playing in clubs across the United States, 10 weeks ago and has climbed steadily ever since, finally reaching the pinnacle this week.

Of course, this is not uncharted territory for Tori (so to speak) as this is her third song to reach #1 on Dance/Club Play chart. The previous two were remixes of “Professional Widow” in 1996 and “Jackie’s Strength” in 1999 so it’s been a while but it’s great to know that folks are still getting their groove on to Tori’s music!

Congratulations and hope this is a harbinger of more success in the future! (Hmmmm, _Light Princess” remix anyone?)

If you missed Tori and Hauschka on Au Cœur de la Nuit / Durch die Nacht mit this past weekend, you can catch it for the next seven days on Arte+7 in either French or German.

Unfortunately for those outside France, Belgium and Germany, those streams are unavailable. Fortunately for those outside France, Belgium and Germany, the program has been uploaded to YouTube a couple times so those of us outside the geo-fence can enjoy it too! Lufthansa Magazine Interview (January 2013)

    Thursday, February 07, 2013 | 01:42 UTC | Posted by woj | Articles

Yes, [my husband is still my muse] and I have learned that he has to miss me in order for us to be close. My daughter is exactly the same. Of course I love having my family around me, but I’m like an aromatic spice that tastes good here and there in small amounts, but if you add it in everything, it’s not special anymore.

Back at the beginning of the new year, while we were still hibernating, Ian J let us know, after a flight on Lufthansa, that Tori was interviewed for their in-flight magazine. As he reported at the time, the interview, though current, focused more on Tori’s history and family life than her music or Gold Dust — though she does mention having learned something about flamenco during her visit to Spain last year.

At the time, the interview wasn’t online but now it is! The full issue can be browsed at Lufthansa’s Media Lounge. A PDF of the issue can be found there as well…which is what we used to gank the text and pictures below from.

Thanks to Ian J for the initial tip and for the pointer to the PDF!

The Light Princess To Open In October

    Wednesday, February 06, 2013 | 04:42 UTC | Posted by woj | Cherries

After development and workshops and delays and more workshops, The National Theatre announced, during their January 30th press conference about plans for the coming year, that The Light Princess musical, created by Samuel Adamson and Tori and directed by Marianne Elliot, will finally be opening in October 2013!

The press release (Word doc) is short on specifics but confirms the title and the stars: Rosalie Craig and Clive Rowe.

So while the exact details and date and tickets are understandably yet to be sorted out, it is great to hear that this production will see the light of day.

Soon as there is word of when the musical will open and information about ticket availability, we’ll pass the word along.

    Through The Night With Hauschka

    Wednesday, February 06, 2013 | 03:47 UTC | Posted by woj | TV/Radio/Web

Tori and the German pianist/composer Hauschka will be the subject of the episode of the Arte television program Au Cœur de la Nuit / Durch die Nacht this coming weekend.

Filmed last Autumn, the program follows the two musicians for one night as they meet and interact across the city of Berlin.

Curious? You can get a taste of what the program will be like from three video clips posted on the production company’s website.

The program will be aired late Saturday night (early Sunday morning) on Arte at 1:00 AM in France and at 12:30 AM in Germany. It should be available for viewing online after the broadcast.
