Light Princess Ticket Reminder

Just a quick reminder that tickets to all performances of The Light Princess and the platform featuring a conversation between playwright Samuel Adamson and Tori on October 18th go on sale to the general public on Monday, July 1st.

Not sure if that is at Midnight British time or later in the day, but keep an eye on The National’s website to see when the purchase links go live.

Pre-sale tickets can already be purchased by National Theatre Supporting Cast members, Priority Members, Young Patrons and Advance Members.

In addition, there is a presale for American Express cardholders that can be accessed through the ticket pages on The National’s website.

Sing Us A Song, Piano Woman: Out Now!

Earlier this spring we told you about a new book on Tori and her female fans called “Sing Us A Song, Piano Woman” by Toriphile Adrienne Trier-Bieniek. The Light Princess At Last!

After sharing three teaser clips from the poster for The Light Princess over the past couple days, The National Theatre has unveiled the complete image for the musical on Twitter this morning. They’ve also indicated that tickets will go on sale to the general public on July 1st.

If you head over to The National’s website, you’ll find that the show’s page is now live where it states that performances will start on September 25th. Additional ticketing details including prices and a schedule of when they will go on-sale — there are earlier dates for theatre supporters — are listed as well as the cast and show’s description:

Once, in opposing kingdoms lived a princess and a prince who had lost their mothers. Althea, unable to cry, became light with grief and floated, and so was locked away. Digby became so heavy-hearted that he could never smile, and so was trained as a warrior.

One day, he declares war. Althea is forced out of hiding and down to ground but, in defiance of her father, she escapes, only to encounter the solemn prince on contested land. Beside a lake the warring heirs begin a passionate and illicit affair. But for Althea to find real love, she must first confront the world’s darkness and face her own deepest fears.

The Light Princess brings together iconic singersongwriter Tori Amos with playwright Samuel Adamson and director Marianne Elliott (Curious Incident) in this spectacular coming-of-age story. A dark fairytale about grief, rebellion and the power of love.

Finally, there is one little bit of what we assume to the be lyrics for the show:

I’m done, Father, Keep your crown,

I am not queen material!

Update: The National Theatre’s webpage for the musical also links to this event, a special conversation between Tori and playwright Samuel Adamson where they will discuss the musical. This one-time discussion will take place on Friday, October 18th at 6pm at The Lyttelton Theatre, preceding that evening’s performance we assume.

Tickets will go on sale to the general public on July 1st.

Keep an eye on The National Theatre’s Twitter stream as they’ll be posting snippets of the poster for The Light Princess during the week. The first image went up this morning and more will be posted today and tomorrow before the complete poster is unveiled on Thursday.

The WILD Magazine Interview (April 2013)

Someone asked me the other day if I could be anyone, who would I be. And I said I would be an advocate in Russia representing the girls in Pussy Riot.

The Bold Issue of The WILD magazine features an interview with Tori by Serena Qiu, with this lovely illustration by Sulamit Elizondo. The conversation, which appears to have taken place sometime towards the end of 2012, begins with Gold Dust but quickly veers to the music industry, Transmission Galactic, RAINN and Pussy Riot.

The full article is online but if you’d like a print copy of the magazine, The WILD can be found in several stores in New York City as well as some other larger cities around the world or you can order a copy directly from them.

Infinity Hall Live Sneak Preview

We’ve known since the taping last October that the episode of Infinity Hall Live featuring Tori would be airing sometime during the program’s second season in the summer of 2013. Although summer is now knocking on the door, Infinity Hall Live’s website still offers no specifics on when the new season will start but it now seems that Tori’s episode will be the first episode of the new season.

More interestingly though, if you head over to the episode’s page, you’ll find a description of the program that includes a list of the songs that will be in the episode and three complete video clips from the show: “Cloud on my Tongue,” “Jackie’s Strength,” and “Snow Cherries From France.”

The Curious Case Of A Curious Night At The Theatre

While we were out enjoying the Memorial Day holiday yesterday, a curious article from Time Out London’s “Now. Here. This.” blog came across the news wire.

Highlighting A Curious Night at the Theatre, a fundraiser for The National Autistic Society and Ambitious about Autism organized by actor Luke Treadaway and director Katy Rudd, the article indicated that Tori would be “singing” at the event. However, Time Out London’s listing for the event does not mention Tori and neither charity’s websites list her appearing — although Ambitious about Autism mentions her in conjunction with passes to a rehearsal of The Light Princess that is one of the several prizes that will be auctioned off.

Fortunately, muddy waters can be cleared: we’ve gotten confirmation that she will not be appearing at this event.

However, don’t let that stop you from attending if you can as the cause is good and the impressive line-up includes the one-off performance of a new Curious Detective Story written by playwright Simon Stephens and author Mark Haddon by the cast of The Curious Incident of the Dog in Night-Time (including Luke Treadaway) , performances by Bat For Lashes and The Boxettes, comedy from Simon Amstell and James Corden, and special video appearances from Helen Mirren, Matt Smith and Andrew Scott. Not a bad evening at all! Plus, there’s that pass into a rehearsal for The Light Princess up for auction!

It all goes down on Monday, July 1st at the Apollo Theatre in London’s West End. VIP tickets are available via rsvpBOOK while regular tickets can be purchased from the Nimax Theatres’ box office.

Sing Us A Song, Piano Woman: New Tori Book This Summer!

Feminist scholar and Toriphile Adrienne Trier-Bieniek is getting ready to release a brand-new book examining Tori Amos and — most particularly — her fans. The book, Sing Us a Song, Piano Woman: Female Fans and the Music of Tori Amos, “explores the many-layered relationships female fans build with feminist musicians in general and with Tori Amos, in particular,” Adrienne says. Flavor Remixer Peter Rauhofer Has Passed Away

Peter Rauhofer, the Grammy-winning DJ and producer who did the “Flavor” remixes for Tori, died today at 48 of brain cancer. Tragically, the cancer was only discovered a few weeks ago when Peter had a seizure and was rushed to the hospital. A large brain tumor was discovered and by that point the cancer was too far advanced.

Earlier today, Tori posted the following message on Facebook:

Today I learned of the very sad news that Peter Rauhofer has passed away suddenly. I will always hold a very special place in my heart for Peter and his re mixes of Flavor. He truly captured the spirit of the song and helped create a #1 Dance Club Record. I am sending send my love and thoughts to his family and friends at this very sad time.

Sinfini Music Talks The Light Princess With Tori

Adam Sweeting sat down for a chat with Tori for classical music website Sinifini Music and they posted a video clip of the conversation on the website yesterday. The discussion ranges from the forthcoming Light Princess musical — which The National Theatre now says will be starting in September — to how Tori started to work within classical music world again on Night of Hunters. Check out the video below:
