The Selections From A Piano Sampler CD

    Wednesday, September 20, 2006 | 01:18 UTC | Posted by woj | Releases

Thanks to eagle-eyed Ryan! on @forumz for spotting and posting about about Selections From A Piano: The Collection, a promotional CD from Rhino Records featuring twelve tracks from A Piano.

We have also received word from the Promotions Director at CD101, a radio station in Columbus, Ohio, that they will be giving away a copy of this sampler during the week of September 25th to celebrate the release of the boxed set. He mentioned that only 1,000 copies of the sampler were produced, so this will be a fairly rare collector’s item. Tune at 101.1 FM in Central Ohio or streaming on the Web for more details about this giveaway when they are announced.

The sampler contains these twelve tracks:

    1. A Sorta Fairytale
    2. Mary (Tales Version)
    3. Cornflake Girl
    4. Baker Baker (Alternate Mix by Kevin Killen, 1994)
    5. Silent All These Years
    6. Flying Dutchman (Alternate Mix by John Beverly Jones, 1992)
    7. Playboy Mommy (Remixed Version by Mark Hawley & Marcel van Limbeek, 2006)
    8. Crucify (Unedited Single Version)
    9. Take To The Sky (Russia)
    10. God
    11. Cruel (Alternate Mix by Mark Hawley & Mark van Limbeek, 2006)
    12. Sugar

Here are some scans of the promo that Ryan! found on eBay:

Tori/PJ/Björk Photo In "Q Idols" Exhibit

    Sunday, September 17, 2006 | 01:53 UTC | Posted by Violet | Cherries

The October, 2006, issue of Q magazine includes an additional mag titled 20 years of classic music photography, Q Idols.

Included is John Stoddart’s 1994 cover photo of PJ Harvey, Björk, and Tori (seen below). Looking back, Stoddart had this to say about the experience:

“Bjork, PJ Harvey and Tori Amos represented a new wave of female rock. They hadn’t met each other before this shoot. I thought it was going to be a real number having these three egos in one studio, but they couldn’t have been nicer to each other. There was no prima donna behaviour, and they all swapped numbers afterwards. My only regret is that Bjork had the worst hairdo of her career at the time. Look at it – it’s horrible.”

This and other photos from the Q Idols collection will be on exhibit in the Getty Images Gallery at 46 Eastcastle Street in London from September 25th-October 6th (or, if that’s a bit too far to travel, take a virtual tour of the exhibit from the comfort of your own home). Just think though … if you go in person, you can take A Piano in your iPod as background music!

(Many thanks to Saar for being vigilant, as ever.)

Tori Interviewed on Studio 360 (September 15, 2006)

    Saturday, September 16, 2006 | 03:11 UTC | Posted by woj | TV/Radio/Web

Tori made an appearance on the PRI radio program Studio 360 on September 15, 2006 where she talked with host Kurt Anderson about myth and motherhood and mentioned that there will be a “big world tour” in 2007. As it says in the program description:

She speaks in delicious metaphors. She’s funny, self-aware and she doesn’t hold back her opinions. But has singer—songwriter Tori Amos really been around long enough for a career—retrospective box set? She tells Kurt Andersen why women need to learn about mythological archetypes, and how becoming a mother has changed her.

The program originates at WNYC in New York City where it was aired today but is carried by many other public radio stations across the United States over the next week or, if you are feeling impatient, just stream the interview on the web. It is also available as a podcast.

Thanks to Paul for this transcript!
