    Tori Tells Us More

    Thursday, December 22, 2011 | 02:10 UTC | Posted by woj | TV/Radio/Web

The segment Tori recorded for Tell Me More back at the start of the month was broadcast as part of today’s episode of this NPR radio program. Even though some stations that carry the program have not aired this episode yet, it is already available for streaming and download from NPR.

In addition, NPR has also kindly posted a story about the appearance that includes video of Tori performing “Edge of the Moon” from the in-studio:

The full appearance included an interview with Tell Me More’s host Michel Martin as well as live performances of “Edge of the Moon,” “Nautical Twilight,” and “Winter.”

    Enjoy!

    KFOG Private Concert Recap

    Monday, December 19, 2011 | 07:31 UTC | Posted by Beth | TV/Radio/Web

A handful of San Francisco Bay Area Tori fans were treated to a private concert with Tori last Friday when she visited the KFOG studios. According to Pamela, Tori did a short interview and played “Winter,” “Edge of the Moon,” “Star of Wonder,” and “A Sorta Fairytale,” all solo. Audio/video of the event doesn’t seem to be online, but KFOG does post video of each concert, so keep an eye on their Vimeo page.

You Won't Even Let Me Keep From Fallin'

    Monday, December 19, 2011 | 07:13 UTC | Posted by Beth | Touring

Tonight’s show at the Orpheum in Los Angeles (the second of two shows this weekend) was a real doozy. It’s not like Tori didn’t warn everyone: she said, “Brace yourself,” and then launched into the first-ever performance of the Y Kant Tori Read song “On The Boundary.” (In fact, some of the folks following our twitter stream tonight thought it might be a hoax!) Hopefully, video will surface to prove it happened. In addition, Tori played rarities such as “Ode to the Banana King,” “Take to the Sky” (with “Datura” in the bridge), “Apollo’s Frock,” “Dragon,” and “Sister Janet.”

There was also a M&G this afternoon, though we didn’t find out about it until afterward. I don’t know at this point whether to expect them in Austin or Dallas.

Kudos to to @Whirljackman, @PopBytes, and @llmaglione for battling some mighty reception hiccups to tweet the show. The full setlist is over in the tour section (along with setlists for last night’s LA show and Friday’s show in Oakland).

You can chime in on any of the shows on their individual pages. We’ll add video as we can.

No Further Meet & Greets On Night Of Hunters Tour

    Wednesday, December 14, 2011 | 03:17 UTC | Posted by Violet | Touring

Sadly there will be no more M&Gs for the remainder of the Night Of Hunters tour. Tori’s schedule is extremely tight in this final stretch and she won’t have any time. Our apologies for not being able to get word out in time for hopeful folks who waited in Vancouver.

Details About The Rosie Show Taping

    Wednesday, December 14, 2011 | 02:51 UTC | Posted by woj | TV/Radio/Web

On Monday, December 11th, several Toriphiles were lucky enough to attend the taping for the upcoming episode of The Rosie Show that Tori will be on and kindly reported on what transpired.

The taping included an interview segment and three songs: “Edge of the Moon,” “Silent All These Years” (Rosie’s request), and “Crucify,” as a duet with Rosie herself.

The airdate of the episode has not yet been announced but we’re certainly looking forward to see what ends up being broadcast! Soon as we get wind of the date to set your DVRs, VCRs and Betamaxes, we’ll get the word out.

Incidentally, as we all know, Rosie’s a fan and she tweeted about having done some Tori-inspired painting, posting a photograph and close-up of it.

Thanks to Ashley and JoeyLove for the report!

    Introducing Tori Songs!

    Wednesday, December 14, 2011 | 02:15 UTC | Posted by woj | Toriphiles

Everyone has their favorite Tori songs, whether it’s the one that hooked you on her music in the first place, the one that spoke to you most deeply or the one you just happen to be listening to at any given time, but ever wonder what all those personal lists might add up to if they were mathemagically combined?

    Well, wonder no longer!

Toriphiles Daniel and Amanda have done all the work, taking the 50 favorite Tori Amos songs of 57 different fans, punching all that data into their solar-powered ENIAC 5500 and coming up with a composite list of 50 songs…and they’re counting them down as we speak.

Follow along with the countdown on the way to #1 on their tumblog or, if you prefer, on Twitter or Facebook.

Also, ToriSongs has teamed up with fellow fansite Tori’s Maze who are blogging about each song as it is unveiled. The song posts are chronicled in their News & Updates section — definitely worth a look!

    Sin Palabras Released Today

    Tuesday, December 13, 2011 | 11:24 UTC | Posted by woj | Releases

Don’t forget: Sin Palabras, the instrumental version of Night of Hunters, is released digitally in North America. It’s on iTunes, Amazon.com and, undoubtedly, other digital retailers as well.

There is a listing on Amazon.co.uk for the release as well, but the listing says the album has an “original release date” of December 19, 2011 but will not be avaialble until April 13, 2012. One assumes this is an error and that it will be corrected sooner or later…

Hopefully, Sin Palabras will be available in other markets as well!

Note: with a copy of the Night of Hunters CD, you can still download a free copy of “Night of Hunters” (the instrumental track, not the whole album) from the Tori Amos Facebook page to get a taste of the instrumental version of the record.

Time For The Geese To Head South

    Sunday, December 11, 2011 | 15:14 UTC | Posted by woj | Touring

The only Midwestern stop on the Night of Hunters tour took place on a frosty evening at the Chicago Theatre in (wait for it) Chicago last night. The set included one extra song — an instrumental piece by the Apollon Musagète Quartett that was listed on the printed setlist as “Chicago Christmas Treat ‘Tango’” — in between second quartet and solo sections of the performance. The Quartett were also featured on “Snow Cherries From France,” “Cloud On My Tongue,” and for the second time on tour, “Father Lucifer.” Solo selections included “Bachelorette,” “Here. In My Head,” “The Beekeeper,” and a cover of The Cure’s “Love Song.”

The full setlist is up in the Tour section, with many thanks to @theburlapfairie, @ToriFan247 and the gods of cell phone reception for live updates from the show on Twitter.

If you were at the concert, we’d love to hear what you thought of it! If you’d like to share, please use the comment form on the concert page.

Next stop: Vancouver! See you Tuesday!

Los Angeles Times Interview (December 11, 2011)

    Saturday, December 10, 2011 | 23:13 UTC | Posted by woj | Articles

There’s a sexy element to penetrating the dead guys and making a new being together. You’re not a sonic necrophiliac but you are walking into a specific space. You have to look at the music as a sonic architect and study how it is made. Then, you must step back or you can never create because you’re in such awe of it that you feel that ‘I can’t touch this because it’s sacred.’

The Los Angeles Times is running a feature on Night of Hunters for which Marcia Adair interviewed both Tori and Deutsche Grammaphon’s Alexander Buhr. The article takes a deeper look at the genesis and evolution of the album as well as toushing on the subject of womane in the world of classical music.
