New York Magazine Vulture Interview (December 1, 2011)

    Saturday, December 03, 2011 | 17:44 UTC | Posted by woj | Articles

The idea was that I’d take male masters, not female, and then permeate and penetrate them as a woman. That was exciting to me. Because they’re dead. If we were going to create a new being, they became the egg and I acted as the penetrator. But in the most loving way!

Tori was interviewed by Gwynne Watkins for New York Magazine’s arts & entertainment section Vulture and the ensuing article was posted on Thursday, December 1st. In it, Tori talks about her thoughts on Night of Hunters, the decision to stick with male composers as the album’s starting point, working with her daughter Natashya on the record, and the challenge and rewards of parenthood.

Washington Post Express Interview (December 1, 2011)

    Saturday, December 03, 2011 | 17:26 UTC | Posted by woj | Articles

The string quartet on the record is coming out with us. They’re Polish boys in their 20s and 30s, and they shred like nobody’s business. It’s like a hurricane of vodka coming through their wood.

The Washington Post Express deemed Tori worthy, as many of us would agree, of being the cover story for the this week’s Weekend Pass section. The article isn’t as much an interview as a concert preview for Monday’s show at DAR Constitution Hall but, in addition to discussing Night of Hunters, it does include a few quotable quotes about the record and touring with the Apollon Musagète Quartett.

In addition, Brian Taylor, the illustrator who did the artwork for the insert cover, has posted about it on his blog — very nifty!

Philadelphia: These Gifts Are Here For You, For Me

    Friday, December 02, 2011 | 05:33 UTC | Posted by woj | Touring

Tonight, Tori performed at the Kimmel Center’s Academy of Music in Philadelphia. The setlist comes to us tonight thanks to the efforts of @yocrpepper who posted it live on Twitter. The concert featured a number of interesting solo selections, such as “Purple People,” “Never Seen Blue,” “Velvet Revolution,” “Cool On Your Island” and “Northern Lad” as well as, with the Apollon Musagète Quartett, “Leather,” “Nautical Twilight” and “Spring Haze.” Check out the complete setlist in the Tour section!

As always, please do share your thoughts on the concert if you were in attendance and are inclined to share. Photographs and other media are welcome too — we’re a bit behind in that department right now and probably will not catch up until after the New York City shows, but we should get a handle on that by the end of the weekend.

    Introducing...Sin Palabras!

    Thursday, December 01, 2011 | 23:03 UTC | Posted by woj | Releases

Per a press release sent out through Tori’s promotional agency, Sin Palabras, an instrumental version of Night of Hunters, will be released on December 13th!

Like the original version of the work, Sin Palabras is being released on Deutsche Grammaphon. However, it appears that it will only be for download-only as the press release indicates it will be sold, “at all digital retailers.”

To get a taste of what this will sound like, check out the Tori Amos Facebook page tomorrow, Friday, December 2nd to download the instrumental version of “Night of Hunters.” The press release indicates the download will be available to “fans who have already or will purchase Night of Hunters,” which we take to mean one of those share-to-download deals.

Update: The “Night of Hunters” instrumental is already available to download! You will need your copy of the album — whether the CD or an iTunes download — as proof of purchase to be able to download the track. If you bought the album on vinyl or via another digital retailer, you will have to send proof of purchase to get a download code for the song.

Update: Also, it seems that the “Night of Hunters” instrumental download is only available in the US and UK.

Thanks to the several folks, including Bobby who was the first, who sent this news our way! We appreciate it!

Yesterday, Sundance Channel premiered new short film for the song “Star Whisperer” from Night of Hunters. You can watch it on their SUNfiltered blog, their Digital Shorts channel (which also has the Night of Hunters trailer and the “Carry” video) or on the Tori Amos Facebook page.

Top Billing Drops A Clip From Their Tori Interview

    Wednesday, November 30, 2011 | 23:13 UTC | Posted by woj | TV/Radio/Web

The interview Tori did for the South African television program Top Billing aired yesterday on SABC3. A rebroadcast of this week’s program is scheduled for 11:00 AM SAST on Sunday. So far, the full interview hasn’t appeared anywhere that we’re aware of but they did post a photo album on Facebook which include many behind-the-scene pictures from the interview and shared a minute-long clip from the interview on YouTube. Hopefully they — or someone else — will share the full piece sooner or later! In the meantime, though, here’s the clip:

Note: Top Billing is running a contest this week. Five winners will received autographed copies of Night of Hunters. The entry deadline is Friday, December 9th so you have a few more days if you’d like to give it a go. Full details and entry info is at their website.

    Upcoming eTown Rebroadcast

    Wednesday, November 30, 2011 | 23:13 UTC | Posted by woj | TV/Radio/Web

The American public radio program eTown will be rerunning the episode from 2009 that featured Tori and Loudon Wainwright III between December 7 and 13.

Recorded at Manhattan Center’s Grand Ballroom and originally aired in December 2009, the program featured a lengthy set by Tori to promote the release of Midwinter Graces — check our recap of the performance to see what was played.

To catch the rebroadcast, find a radio station in your area that carries the show — it can be heard internationally too so this isn’t a US-only thing for a change! The program should be available online once the air date trundles along and should also pop up in the eTown podcast as well.

Thanks to Lorna for the tip!

Atlanta: Gonna Float On Past Your Home

    Wednesday, November 30, 2011 | 04:55 UTC | Posted by woj | Touring

Annnnnnd the North American leg of the Night of Hunters Tour is underway!

Kicking off at Atlanta’s Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center, Tori and the Apollon Musagète Quartett spun a two-hour long web that, following the pattern established in Europe, featured both songs performed with the Quartett as well as a healthy dose of solo segments as well.

Tonight’s set included “Suede,” ““Fearlessness,” “Star Whisperer,” “Siren,” “Spark” and “Precious Things” accompanied by the string quartet while solo selections featured “Here. In My Head,” “Honey,” “Beulah Land,” Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide” and Joni Mitchell’s “River.”

The complete setlist, with thanks to @marlatiara, @ciararavenblaze, @ErikaJL and @AmyJohnson__ for updates from the show via Twitter, has been posted in the Tour section. Check it out and, if you were at the show and are so inclined, please share your thoughts about the concert. We’ll also get photographs and video posted there as anything comes along.

Finally, since we only mentioned it as a footnote way back at the start of the tour, we hasten to point out that Thomas Dybdahl is the support act for the North American dates of the tour. Give him a listen!

USA Today Interview (November 28, 2011)

    Tuesday, November 29, 2011 | 01:12 UTC | Posted by woj | Articles

I’ve been fascinated with mythology. I can’t do math, I can’t count, but I can find structure in stories.

USA TODAY featured a sweet little interview with Tori in their November 28th edition. In it, Tori talks about wanting to give classical music a face-lift with Night of Hunters, touring with a string quartet (though if Andreas Ottensamer is joining the merry band, that’s certainly news to us!) and Celtic mythology’s influence on the new album. Check it out over at USA TODAY!

[UPDATE: We’re sorry to say we have confirmation that Andreas will NOT be on the U.S. tour.]

Thanks to Lorna for the link!
