    Reminder: Tori On WFUV Tonight!

    Monday, November 28, 2011 | 23:53 UTC | Posted by woj | TV/Radio/Web

Don’t forget! Tori will be Darren DeVevo’s guest during Words and Music From Studio A tonight on WFUV at 9:00 PM Eastern (about 2 hours from when this is posted).

If you’re in or around the New York City area, listen on the old-fashioned radio by tuning in at 90.7 on the olde FM dial or listen online using their new-fangled Flash player or, if you prefer, the old-fangled Windows Media/MP3/AAC streams.

To get you in the mood, here are three songs from the session, “Edge of the Moon,” “Carry” and “Nautical Twilight,” that WFUV has posted on YouTube. Enjoy!

Night of Hunters VIP Ticket Auctions To Benefit RAINN

    Sunday, November 27, 2011 | 21:49 UTC | Posted by woj | RAINN

The Night of Hunters Tour’s North American leg kicks off this Tuesday in Atlanta and, as announced in a RAINN newsletter, Tori has donated a pair of VIP tickets that are being auctioned via eBay with proceeds from the auctions going to benefit RAINN. The first round of auction ended today but the second round — for the Boston, Toronto, Chicago, Vancouver and Seattle shows — are all still running and the other shows will be added as time goes on.

If you’re looking for great seats to shows on this tour and also to help make a difference to an organization that is doing good work and enjoys Tori supports, this would be a good way to achieve both goals.

Thanks to David for the tip about this!

Tori To Swing By VH1's Big Morning Buzz

    Sunday, November 27, 2011 | 19:04 UTC | Posted by woj | TV/Radio/Web

Even though there’s no mention of it on their website or Facebook yet, Tori will be one of the guests on VH1’s Big Morning Buzz this Wednesday, November 30th. The program airs at 9:00 AM Eastern/Pacific. VH1 makes clips from their episodes available for streaming after the broadcast so hopefully those who miss it will be able to catch it online…one way or another.

Thanks to MK for the tip and the TV listings on woj’s DVR for the confirmation — zap2it’s listing has her on the show too.

Note: we wouldn’t be surprised to see a few more television appearances — either national or local — pop up as the North American tour progresses through the month. If you hear of any, please let us know so we can help get the word out.

    DStv Interview (November 22, 2011)

    Sunday, November 27, 2011 | 19:04 UTC | Posted by woj | Articles,TV/Radio/Web

It has to be a conversation so I, as Tori, have to get out of the way, and allow the songs to take over my being. The piano, itself, plays me. If you can surrender like that, you really just become a vessel, and that’s a tremendous charge for me. We’re magical beings.

Tori was DStv’s Artist of the Week last week and their post about her includes both a video piece with some interview clips and an article about her visit to South Africa, the making of Night of Hunters and performing. Check out the video, which they also kindly posted on YouTube, below and jump the cut for the article.

    Bells for Boom.fm

    Sunday, November 27, 2011 | 18:58 UTC | Posted by woj | TV/Radio/Web

South African music website boom.fm was fortunate enough to attend the press photo-op before the Cape Town concert on November 17th and recorded this lovely performance of “Bells For Her” which they later posted on YouTube. Many thanks to them for sharing this with everyone!

Heineken Music Interview (November 17, 2011)

    Sunday, November 27, 2011 | 18:46 UTC | Posted by woj | Articles

I don’t think about [pop culture], to be honest. I think it’s more fun to keep creating, and to be a creative force. I’d like to see myself known as a composer – and I’m fairly sure that my work will move into that area. I’m not sure where it’s all going, of course, but I’d like to think I’m carving my own niche for what feels right at the time – to me, anyway.

Tori spoke to John Erne for Heineken Music and the interview was posted on HeinekenMusic.ie earlier this month. The brief conversation discusses Night of Hunters, Tori’s Irish home in Kinsale and her thoughts on pop culture.

A tip o’the hat to lilfaerie for sending this our way!

The New Age Interview (November 17, 2011)

    Sunday, November 27, 2011 | 18:34 UTC | Posted by woj | Articles

There was more freedom in some ways than when you’re making a pop contemporary record. Stylistically, with a contemporary record, no different than fashion: you need to be forward thinking. You need to look at what is occurring sonically. What other records are making statements about. This kind of work is about architecture, structure, and you have a lot more room in alternative classic to build than you do in the pop field.

Back during the three show run in Johannesburg, Tori chatted with Clayton Swanepoel for The New Age and the interview appeared in the November 17th edition of that publication. The interview touched on Tori’s feelings about visiting South Africa for the first time, the music industry and, of course, Night of Hunters though, unlike some other interviews, in the context of contrasting with with pop records, such as Scarlet’s Walk.

Many thanks to lilfaerie and Anina for the link!

Windy City Times Interview (November 16, 2011)

    Sunday, November 27, 2011 | 18:33 UTC | Posted by woj | Articles

You can sing Kumbaya if you want but get out and vote. I am not being MTV Rock the Vote. I am being much more pragmatic about it and almost threatening. If those of us want to see the world in a more accepting way and don’t participate then our world may not look the way we want it to in five years time.

Jerry Nunn interviewed Tori for the Chicago-based LGBT news publication the Windy City Times. The conversation spanned topics from the origins of Night of Hunters to picking out songs to perform on tour with the Apollon Musagète Quartett and took a political turn with Tori encouraging the gay community to get involved and to vote during the 2012 elections in the United States.

Thanks to Thomas for being the first of several people to let us know about this interview.

    Toriphiles-A-Go-Go!

    Tuesday, November 22, 2011 | 01:58 UTC | Posted by woj | Toriphiles

As is often the case, there are many interesting happenings in the Toriphile world that we’d like everyone to be aware of. So, here’s a quick catch-all article to remind everyone of some things we’ve mentioned before as well as to make sure people are aware of some other things that we haven’t.

First, the Tori Amos & Fans Facebook group is assembling a Meet & Greet photo book which will be given to Tori as a gift of remembrance to say “Thank You” for everything that she has given of herself to her fans. If you would like to be included in the book, e-mail your meet & greet photo to psllive@hotmail.com as soon as possible! Please include your name and, if you’d like, a message you’d like included in the book and the date and place the photo was taken. If you haven’t had the opportunity to meet Tori yet, they’re more than happy to accept a photo of yourself with, if you’d like, a caption that saying how you feel about her and her music. You can see the cover that has been created for the book over to the right — pretty impressive looking! If you’d like to be part of the project, e-mail your photograph to Peter and Tammi at the address above as soon as you can!

Second, Haulie Free is pleased to announce that All These Years, a Tori Amos-inspired website for survivors of sexual abuse and domestic violence she originally created back in 1999, has been relaunched! While the site has gotten a face-lift, it still provides resources and information as well as news and inspiration for survivors. As we know, this is a subject near and dear to Tori’s heart so please support the site and its users.

Finally, a quick reminder that Samantha Hale’s documentary Map The Music which features Tori, along with many other artists, will be broadcast on The Documentary Channel this Thursday, November 24th at 8:00 PM and 11:00 PM Eastern. Additionally, the Kickstarter she started to fund a sequel film is nearing it’s deadline. Check it out and if you like the idea of the project, consider making a donation to help make it happen!
