    Mark "Midasizes" It!

    Tuesday, January 05, 2010 | 02:33 UTC | Posted by woj | Articles

For a somewhat different and refreshing perspective on touring with Tori, check out this press release from Midas Consoles that goes behind the scenes with Tori’s live sound crew, Mark Hawley (aka “Husband”) and Marcel van Limbeek, to discuss their gear preferences and sound philosophy — albeit with an understandably pro-Midas slant.

The release also includes photographs of Mark and Marcel, the former of which adorns this article (warning: the originals from Midas are quite large!)

Thanks to gerbil for sending in this recent Mix article which reminded me about a reprint in Techie Talk originally pointed out by Clément way back in November. Eek!

    Metro Interview (December 21, 2009)

    Monday, December 21, 2009 | 11:56 UTC | Posted by woj | Articles

[Women would] bring different things to the table, because of our life experiences. The issue about war, for example, is that when you carry life and give birth to life, the idea of life being taken away, even if it isn’t your own child… there’s a sanctity a lot of women have for life.

This short interview appeared in today’s issue of The Metro — a free publication available in the London Underground.

Thanks to Mary and Brian for catching it and sending in the link!

    Lemondrop Interview (December 18, 2009)

    Sunday, December 20, 2009 | 22:32 UTC | Posted by woj | Articles

My daughter is 9 years old and she still believes in Santa — and so does Mark. And I believe in fairies. My daughter will say, “Dad, do you believe in fairies? And he’ll say, ‘I married one!’”

Here’s a sweet little interview from Lemondrop in which Lauren Brown talk to Tori about Midwinter Graces, Santa Claus and family.

Thanks to Google for finding this one for us!

    Popwreckoning Interview (December 17, 2009)

    Saturday, December 19, 2009 | 04:39 UTC | Posted by woj | Articles

I think you always have some regrets. Sometimes they’re little. It’s how you handle certain situations. I go back to that thing, “Be smart, not right.” I find that when I have to be right over being smart, which can achieve the win that you’re wanting to achieve, that you usually look back and wish you were smart instead of needing to be right.

Dese’Rae Stage had a chance to speak to Tori for music website Popwreckoning and the interview was posted on their site yesterday. While a few of the questions asked revolve around the holiday season, most strayed well off the beaten path of recent interviews that have dealt primarily with Midwinter Graces. As such, it’s a nice departure from the usual!

This interview was also posted on QRO MAgazine’s website

Pepsi Music Blog Interview (December 14, 2009)

    Thursday, December 17, 2009 | 01:19 UTC | Posted by woj | Articles

I’m not part of any religion. I’m inspired more by I guess the native American tradition, and many other cultures that I’ve experienced around the world. So I’m kind of a mixture. I’m a busy pigeon.

Chris Willman spoke to Tori on behalf of the Yahoo! Pepsi Music Blog and the interview was posted yesterday. The meat of the interview deals with Midwinter Graces but Tori also mentions some holiday music that she has enjoyed (hint: it’s instrumental piano work and not really a holiday record) and talks about the songs she wrote for the record in addition to discussing her rewriting of the traditional carols.

New York Post PopWrap Interview (December 14, 2009)

    Tuesday, December 15, 2009 | 04:59 UTC | Posted by woj | Articles

I certainly go through different phases, from electronic to acoustic piano, most composers would die if they didn’t. However, as a true songwriter, I don’t write “just tunes.” Each work needs a narrative. It’s about the overall body of work, not just being a singer.

Ryan Brockington, whose photos and twitvids from last week’s SPINHouse show were some of the early indicators about that wee event, spoke with Tori after the show and the resulting interview went up on the New York Post’s PopWrap blog today. In it, they talk about Midwinter Graces (of course!) but also hit on reinvention, commercial appeal and what’s catching her musical attention lately.

Thanks to Mark-Alexis for sending in this link!

    Musicradar Interview (December 8, 2009)

    Sunday, December 13, 2009 | 20:10 UTC | Posted by woj | Articles

My mother is very close to my heart. If you met her, she would sit you down with some fried chicken and she’d become your mother. She’s everybody’s mother. Anytime people meet Mary, they want her to adopt them.

Tori spoke with Musicradar’s Joe Bosso and the interview was posted on their website earlier this week. In addition to discussing the concept behind and several songs from Midwinter Graces, they also touch on Tori’s relationship with her mother, her relationship with Bösendorfers and her reaction to the PS22 Children’s Choir performing “A Winter’s Carol.”

Musicradar has kindly provided a mp3 of the interview as well.

    Keyboard Interview (December 2009)

    Wednesday, December 09, 2009 | 03:24 UTC | Posted by woj | Articles

This is not a shocking album. In fact, the shocking thing about this record is that there’s nothing shocking on it. I don’t have that hidden track called, “She’s A Hussy, Merry Christmas.” At the start, Doug said to me, “Tori, you’ve proven yourself. You’ve shocked us enough for many lifetimes, so can you just do something beautiful and ephemeral?” And I said, “Yeah, I can do that.”

Tori is the cover story for the December issue of Keyboard and the feature interview is up on their website. In the long article, Tori and Michael Gallant discuss the usual topics regarding Midwinter Graces but in the greater depth that a longer piece allows for. Additionally, they get into some of the technical aspects of producing and recording the album which hasn’t really been discussed in other interviews.

Thanks to Devin for pointing us to this excellent piece!
