Note On A Piano: The Collection

    Monday, July 24, 2006 | 08:21 UTC | Posted by Violet | Releases

For the fans who’ve been wondering, the graphic you’ve seen thusfar for A Piano: The Collection (the one patiently sleeping over in our right-hand column) is NOT the artwork for the project itself. It is a temporary image.

The press release promises “deluxe packaging that resembles a piano’s keyboard” ... we’re told that’s the key. We haven’t seen the real artwork, but we are confident it will be something special and very unique.

Neil Made Her A Tree, But Can Tinseltown?

    Monday, July 24, 2006 | 07:52 UTC | Posted by Violet | Cherries,Them

In his most recent journal entry, Neil includes a link to an article in the Hollywood Reporter’s “Risky Biz Blog” in which Stardust scriptwriter, Jane Goldman, confirms that they would like to have Tori do the voice of the tree if a deal can be negotiated. Having finished filming earlier this month, the movie is currently in post-production and is scheduled for theatrical release in March, 2007.

(Thanks to marla for letting us know about this.)

    Overview: Pretty Good Years

    Friday, July 21, 2006 | 05:52 UTC | Posted by Violet | Cherries,Releases

Pretty Good Years has finally been released. I was tentative in my hopefulness when I got a message from Amazon saying my order had shipped, but yes indeed, it really did arrive. I have no idea why the publisher told us the book was back-ordered and would be available in August (they still don’t have a release date listed on their own site).

This is Undented’s overview of the book.

(wink wink, nudge nudge, know what I mean?)

Okay, perhaps not, so here’s the skinny, you lot with the dirty minds…

Toriphiles in the London area will have an opportunity to hear Jon Evans’s jazzier side as he performs with our good friend, acclaimed singer/songwriter Emily Bezar, in an intimate club setting this coming Wednesday (July 19th). Then … Malta!

As mentioned on The Dent, this program was originally broadcast on July 23, 2005. No one sent in any information about the interview to Mikewhy then, so if anyone can provide some details, we’d be happy to post them for posterity!

Thanks to Jessica for pointing this out (and apologies for taking a few days to get it posted—long story!).

    Wednesday, July 12, 2006 | 14:00 UTC | Posted by woj | Cherries

Ann Powers, co-author of Tori Amos: Piece By Piece will participate in a DoubleTake panel discussion entitled What Sparks Creativity?. She, along with Greg Bear and Michael Klein, will discuss the creative process in the context of popular music, science fiction and fine art, using, respectively, Tori Amos, Ray Bradbury and Beverly Semmes, as their examples.

The panel takes place at 7pm on Thursday, July 13th at the Experience Music Project’s JBL Theatre in Seattle, WA. Admission is free. The reservation period is past, so e-mail or call (206) 770-2702 to check on availability.

Swedish Photographer Blaise Reuterswärd To Do Tori's Next Album Cover

    Sunday, July 09, 2006 | 12:24 UTC | Posted by Violet | Releases

Rob tells us that Swedish newspaper Helsingborgs Dagblad has reported that the cover of Tori’s next album will be done by high-fashion photographer, Blaise Reuterswärd.

The article, which is actually a review of a Reuterswärd exhibition in the town of Påarp, is in Swedish, but Rob was kind enough to translate the relevant paragraph for us:

But the important thing is that they [women] seem to like having him photograph them. Many think that it is a woman who has taken my pictures, he says by way of explanation. Perhaps that is why singer Tori Amos wants him to do her next album cover. He’s come directly from a meeting with her in London on his way from New York where he also has an exhibition.

You can visit Blaise’s website to view some tantalizing samples of his work in his online portfolio. Google also contains links to a large number of pages with information and articles on Blaise as well.

Tori Comments On Her New Album at the AOL Music News Blog

    Friday, July 07, 2006 | 23:17 UTC | Posted by woj | Articles,Releases

Thanks to Sweet Shiseido for letting us know about this post on AOL’s Music News Blog which addresses recent activity from the Tori camp. Jessica Robertson covers the forthcoming release of A Piano: The Collection and the new album, mentioning a Spring 2007 release, and includes a new quote from Tori about her current song-writing:

“It’s a real challenge, allowing myself to not have any kind of subject limits [this time] because I was trying to protect my child,” she said of her new album. “But that’s not the only reason I’ve written what I’ve written and done what I’ve done the last five years. Now that I’ve addressed things coming from the mother, the minister’s daughter and a sexual creature, it’s time to do something else energetically. I’m not quite sure how to put it in words yet and I think it’s better to let the music speak for itself.”

Matt's Photos from the Recording Session

    Tuesday, July 04, 2006 | 20:02 UTC | Posted by woj | Cherries,Them

Matt Chamberlain has posted some pictures taken during the recording sessions for Tori’s new album in Cornwall on his myspace. While the picture taken of Matt and Tori in front of the recording desk appears to have been removed, there is still a shot of Matt playing with his drums all miked up.

UPDATE: Matt has deleted his myspace profile from the site so that photo is no longer available.
