The WILD Magazine Interview (April 2013)

    Saturday, June 08, 2013 | 16:06 UTC | Posted by woj | Articles

Someone asked me the other day if I could be anyone, who would I be. And I said I would be an advocate in Russia representing the girls in Pussy Riot.

The Bold Issue of The WILD magazine features an interview with Tori by Serena Qiu, with this lovely illustration by Sulamit Elizondo. The conversation, which appears to have taken place sometime towards the end of 2012, begins with Gold Dust but quickly veers to the music industry, Transmission Galactic, RAINN and Pussy Riot.

The full article is online but if you’d like a print copy of the magazine, The WILD can be found in several stores in New York City as well as some other larger cities around the world or you can order a copy directly from them.

    Lufthansa Magazine Interview (January 2013)

    Thursday, February 07, 2013 | 01:42 UTC | Posted by woj | Articles

Yes, [my husband is still my muse] and I have learned that he has to miss me in order for us to be close. My daughter is exactly the same. Of course I love having my family around me, but I’m like an aromatic spice that tastes good here and there in small amounts, but if you add it in everything, it’s not special anymore.

Back at the beginning of the new year, while we were still hibernating, Ian J let us know, after a flight on Lufthansa, that Tori was interviewed for their in-flight magazine. As he reported at the time, the interview, though current, focused more on Tori’s history and family life than her music or Gold Dust — though she does mention having learned something about flamenco during her visit to Spain last year.

At the time, the interview wasn’t online but now it is! The full issue can be browsed at Lufthansa’s Media Lounge. A PDF of the issue can be found there as well…which is what we used to gank the text and pictures below from.

Thanks to Ian J for the initial tip and for the pointer to the PDF!

Joe Jackson Publishes His Interviews With Tori

    Wednesday, February 06, 2013 | 03:45 UTC | Posted by woj | Articles

Music journalist Joe Jackson, who Toriphiles should recognize as the person behind some of Tori’s most revealing and intriguing interviews over her career, has e-published the texts of four of conversations with her in Tori Amos: Soul Searching and Uncensored.

The unexpurgated interviews, published in The Irish Times, The Sunday Times and magazines globally, are joined in the ebook by Joe’s 2010 piece for The Independent, My Spirit Walk With Tori Amos, in which he reminisces about his history with Ms. Amos.

The e-book is available in a plethora of formats from Smashwords and from Amazon for the Kindle.

Note: Jackson’s website, to which we linked in our article about the Spirit Walk article, is seemingly no longer active. However, he is active on Facebook and Twitter if you are so-inclined to keep up with his activities.

    Rock'n'Reel Interview (January/February 2013)

    Wednesday, February 06, 2013 | 03:45 UTC | Posted by woj | Articles

The January/February issue (#37) of R2 Magazine (Rock’n‘Reel), with The Dropkick Murphys on the cover, features an interview with Tori.

The article is not online but you should be able to pick up a copy of the issue in shops through The United Kingdom, Ireland, Belgium or The Netherlands or purchase the back issue online once the next issue is published.

We’ll be tracking down a copy of this issue soon as we can but if anyone has already seen it, please let us know if there’s anything new there-in or if it follows the same pattern as other Gold Dust-era interviews.

    V Magazine Interview (December 2012)

    Sunday, December 09, 2012 | 18:48 UTC | Posted by woj | Articles

Backstage, just before I’m about to go on, my husband will say to me, ‘Look after my wife,’ and I tell him that he’ll get her back after the show. He is my sound engineer—his hands have been on my faders since 1994. It’s funny, I’m a wife and a mom, but Tori Amos—the person onstage—is sovereign. She’s something different.

The Winter 2012/13 issue of V Magazine includes this interview with Tori, as long as this new photograph of her, taken by Amy Troost. Conducted earlier in the year, the interview pre-dates October’s concerts but covers more material than just Gold Dust and touring with an orchestra, delving into the psychology of performance and the new reality of the music industry as well.

Brisbane Times Interview (December 9, 2012)

    Sunday, December 09, 2012 | 18:14 UTC | Posted by woj | Articles

Through the death of my brother, Michael, I realised that mortality is a real thing. Before he died, I didn’t think about mortality in the same way. It woke me up in a way to see just how fragile life is and how important it is to let the people you love know that all the time.

Tori discusses the men in her life and what she knows about them in this little piece that appeared in the December 9th edition of The Brisbane Times.

    Reuters Interview (October 25, 2012)

    Friday, October 26, 2012 | 05:29 UTC | Posted by woj | Articles

I was really motivated by women. I was motivated by secrets they keep, the stories that they hold close to their heart and possibly hide behind their eyes. And also, after they might tell me their story, they might talk to me about their emotional process. And it is humbling, intriguing, it opens my perception in ways that I never imagined it would over the last so many years.

Reuters’ Christine Kearney talked to Tori about Gold Dust, recording and performing with the Metropole Orkest, revisiting her older songs and being and staying creative.

The article includes a new photograph taken by Lucas Jackson during a photoshoot earlier in October. A little searching turned up four other photos from the shoot on Yahoo!‘s image search that we’ve stashed after the jump.

Same Same Interview (October 24, 2012)

    Friday, October 26, 2012 | 03:52 UTC | Posted by woj | Articles

I think these sorts of people should have to attend a meeting with survivors. Not where they can talk, they’re not allowed to talk, they need to listen and be forced to listen. They need to do this every single day for a year. That’s what they need in order to not be ignorant.

Heidi Maier interviewed Tori for Australia’s Same Same website. Their conversation centered primarily on Gold Dust, touching on its nature as a career retrospective, its conception in the one-off 2010 performance with the Metropole Orkest, and the process of recording and playing with an orchestra but also covers political and social ground, with Tori addressing both her staunch support for LGBT rights staunch opposition to Republican positions on women’s reproductive rights and her thoughts on fear in politics.

Many thanks to Dale and char for linking us to this powerful interview.

    Bild Interview (October 23, 2012)

    Friday, October 26, 2012 | 03:03 UTC | Posted by woj | Articles

Music saved my life, healed me. When one creates something, a wound can become something new and magical.

The German magazine Bild interviwed Tori and posted the article on Tuesday. The article is more a profile than interview but includes some good quotes as well as this nice photograph of Tori with the article’s author, Björn Wolfram, as the first image in a little photo gallery that includes some shots from the Berlin concert of the Gold Dust tour.

Naturally, the article is in German but we’ve included a rough translation (thank you Google) after the jump that we’ll try to smooth out as time allows.

Thanks to Dieter for the link!
