    News: Flight Of (Tori) Fancy

Posted by Violet on Friday, September 07, 2007 | Minutiae

Admittedly this is a teeny sighting, but since I’m a huge FOTC fan (back off, Mel!), I’m going to make a big deal out of it….

At the end of this week’s first-season finale of the HBO series “Flight Of The Conchords” — which chronicles the day-to-day lives of New Zealand’s 4th most popular folk-comedy duo as they struggle to find gigs and girlfriends in New York City — Murray tells Bret and Jemaine that he has to rush off because he has a lunch date with Tori Amos. Undoubtedly the topic of Tori not playing New Zealand this tour will have been brought up over eats, since Murray works as a Deputy Cultural Attaché at the New Zealand consulate when he’s not busy moonlighting as the band’s manager.

But for our money, the best part of the episode was Bret’s hilarious (and spot-on) spoof of Kevin Bacon’s overwrought angrydance freak-out from the movie Footloose after Jemaine tells him he’s been kicked out of the band.

Thanks to Meredith, Habidabad, kelly, Matthew Schmitt, and Maureen for having keen ears and good taste in shows.
