The Big Issue Interview (September 12, 2012)

    Friday, September 14, 2012 | 02:15 UTC | Posted by woj | Articles

“I sit here and watch the lizards outside and sing to them for hours at a time. Believe it or not there’s this song, Cloud On My Tongue, that they really like. We have a redwood deck at the back where they show up really well. You can see them gathering. You know that if it works for the lizards, it might work at the Royal Albert Hall.

A brief but fun interview appeared on the website for UK magazine The Big Issue today. While more quip clips than actual interview feature, it’s a quick romp though subjects both usual and unusual — Tash, touring, writing songs, living in Florida — that’s punchy and has a different feel than the usual interview not to mention a cute illustration by Matt Hollings.

Tori Returns to ZDF MorgenMagazin in October

    Thursday, September 13, 2012 | 23:38 UTC | Posted by woj | TV/Radio/Web

Almost as a footnote to their post about the premiere of the “Flavor” video on Stern.de, Klassik Akzente mentions that Tori will return German television station ZDF’s morning program, Morgenmagazin, on October 15th.

At this time, ZDF’s schedule only extends through October 4th so this isn’t 100% confirmed yet but it would certainly make sense as Tori will be in Berlin for the Echo Klassik awards ceremony on the 14th (that, incidentally, will be broadcast on ZDF) and her concert at the Philharmonie on the evening of the 15th.

We’ll update once we know for sure. Thanks to velvet for the hot tip!

Hunters And Christmas Parties: 20 Years Of Little Earthquakes

    Thursday, September 13, 2012 | 01:28 UTC | Posted by woj | Toriphiles

In or around New York City? Looking for a good way to get into the mood for the imminent release of Gold Dust? Then head on down to Brooklyn’s Bar Matchless on Wednesday, September 26th and make your way to the back room for “Hunters and Christmas Parties,” a Tori-themed edition of Last Wednesdays at Matchless celebrating the twentieth anniversary of Little Earthquakes.

Host DJ Russ will be joined by special guest DJs Matt Heart Spade and Cherry Magdalene of ADVENTURES[s] to present an evening of music by Tori and related artists as well, and we quote, “themed attire, horses, donut holes, wings, everything.” Who could resist?

The deal gets started at 9:30 PM in Matchless’ back room at 9:30 PM Eastern and, second-best of all, it’s free!

Tori will be swinging by BBC Radio 6 to join Radcliffe and Maconie on Monday, September 17th Tuesday, September 25th to talk about the release of Gold Dust. The rescheduled date is not listed on the BBC’s website yet but we received word from the program’s producer about the change.

The three hour program airs at 1:00 PM BST (8:00 AM Eastern, 5:00 AM Pacific) and, if you miss it or just want to listen again, will be available on-demand via the BBC iPlayer for a week afterwards.

Thanks to Kelly for the heads up!

Gold Dust Clips Streaming on iTunes

    Sunday, September 09, 2012 | 21:52 UTC | Posted by woj | Releases

The next step in an album’s pre-release cycle of life has arrived for Gold Dust: clips of each song are now streaming at an online retailer. This time around, the European and Australian iTunes stores have the honor of being the first retailers to do so. Here’s the webpage for the UK store. The 30 second clips should be streamable anywhere in the world — just hover your mouse or pointing device over the track and click the play button that appears to the left of the track name.

Update: Longer 90 second clips can be heard on the listing for Gold Dust within the iTunes application, as opposed to the web page linked above. Just click the “View in iTunes” link to bring up the album’s page in iTunes — assuming you have it installed.

Thanks to @EarWithFeet and mario for the tip!

    TimesTalksMadrid To Welcome Tori

    Tuesday, September 04, 2012 | 23:59 UTC | Posted by woj | TV/Radio/Web

As part of TimesTalks Madrid, a special series of TimeTalks that will be taking place in Madrid, Spain over the weekend of September 22nd, Tori will appear in conversation with New York Times music critic Jon Pareles at the Teatro Fernán Gómez.

According to a press release about the series from the International Herald Tribune (the global face of The New York Times), the interview will be about Gold Dust, Tori’s forthcoming orchestral album that will be released at the start of October.

The interview will take place on Sunday, September 23rd at 9:00 PM CEST (3:00 PM Eastern, Noon Pacific) and is scheduled to last one hour. Tickets for the event can be reserved free of charge at the Teatro’s website.

Fortunately for the majority of us who probably can’t whisk off to Spain on a whim, the conversation will be webcast on TimesTalksMadrid.com and we wouldn’t be surprised to see the webcast added to the TimesTalk archive of podcasts and videos.

Thanks to Rachel and mkgtweety for passing this along!

Listen To The First Time With Tori

    Sunday, September 02, 2012 | 14:31 UTC | Posted by woj | TV/Radio/Web

If you, like us, slept through the original airing of Tori’s appearance on The First Time earlier today on BBC 6 Music, you can stream it on BBC iPlayer for the next seven days. The hour-long interview by Matt Everitt touches on Tori’s earliest contact with music from listening to it to playing it , her first concert (Elton John), Y Kant Tori Read, dealing with the pressures of success, Strange Little Girls, Night of Hunters, and Tori’s take on women composers.

Curiously, there is no mention of Gold Dust during this interview so we suspect it was recorded longer ago than one might think given the nearness of that album’s release.

The music played during the interview included:

    Tori Amos – Professional Widow
The Doors – Light My Fire
    Led Zeppelin – Thank You
    Elton John – Tiny Dancer
    Tori Amos – Crucify
Tori Amos – Silent All These Years
    Tori Amos – Cornflake Girl
Tori Amos – Night Of Hunters
Erik Satie – Gnossienne No 1
    Tori Amos – Job’s Coffin

ETA: The program will also be rebroadcast on Sunday, Sept. 9 at 2 a.m. British time, or Saturday, Sept. 8 for folks in the U.S. More details here.
