    Wired Interview (September 19, 2011)

    Tuesday, September 20, 2011 | 03:59 UTC | Posted by woj | Articles

Men aging seems to be embraced in the entertainment industry because somehow they get sexier. You’d think as women get more older and intelligent that that’s sexy, because as we know, men that gain status or power, they become attractive to younger women, but as women gain status it’s, “Oh, she’s a wise old hag at the fire!”

Earlier today, Wired featured this piece about Night of Hunters on their arts and culture blog Underwire. Sprinkled with quotations from an interview with Tori, author Angela Watercutter (whoop! whoop! cool surname of the week!) details the new album, takes stock of Tori’s work on The Light Princess, and measures her success within the industry.

Thanks to @lushvalley for the tip!

    Xposé Visits Tori in Cork

    Tuesday, September 20, 2011 | 02:41 UTC | Posted by woj | TV/Radio/Web

Irish TV3 program Xposé swung by Tori’s house in Kinsale, Ireland — which graced some the promotional and album artwork for Night of Hunters — for a tour of their getaway home as well as to discuss family life and how to evade notice at the local eating establishments. It’s a cute little clip — check it out on TV3’s website — after, of course, the obligatory 30-second commercial!

Thanks to Paul Curran and mario for sending this in to us!

Pop Matters Interview (September 19, 2011)

    Tuesday, September 20, 2011 | 02:03 UTC | Posted by woj | Articles

I think [pop musicians] sort of work on a more improvisational sort of landscape and do really well with that, as do jazz musicians. They do really well when you say ‘ok, we need to find a new chord, let’s just jam.’ Classical music doesn’t work that way. In a way, that’s why the record is what it was, because every note was written down.

Matt Mazur, long-time Pop Matters writer and Tori fan, has come through again with an excellent review of Night of Hunters, followed up by an equally-excellent interview, both of which appeared in a feature piece on PopMatters.com today.

Their conversation is quite extensive with Tori providing expansive responses to Matt’s questions, hitting on the album’s evolution and construction, the nature of Tash’s vocal constributions to the record, the challenges of working and touring with classical musicians and culminating with a look back at the Doll Posse.

    Slant Reviews Night of Hunters

    Tuesday, September 20, 2011 | 02:03 UTC | Posted by woj | Reviews

Slant Magazine’s review of Night of Hunters mirrors and expands on the rather simplistic analysis offered up by The Metro: at its core is the same complaint about the archness of concept while singling out selected songs for having succeeded in spite of the limitations, as the reviewer sees it, of the record’s nature. Whether you agree or not, at least this reviewer backs up his position with more than simple arm-waving.

The Metro Reviews Night of Hunters

    Tuesday, September 20, 2011 | 02:03 UTC | Posted by woj | Reviews

The Metro followed up their interview with Tori with a review Night of Hunters. Critic Robert Heller takes issue with the album’s high concept but finds merit with some of the songs —although one suspects that the editor’s axe may have taken much of the meat of the analysis…

    Metro Interview (September 16, 2011)

    Tuesday, September 20, 2011 | 02:03 UTC | Posted by woj | Articles

I won [Mark] round with patience and by keeping the way I felt secret for ten months. I had my beady eye on his calves as he walked around in shorts and Caterpillar boots.

A rather brash interview appeared in today’s edition of The Metro, a free UK newspaper made avaialble to commuters. The focus is on family — Tash’s involvement in the record and how Tori courted her now-husband Mark Hawley — though one would hope that such subjects could be approached a little more delicately.

Thanks to @sky_like_you, @Strongblackhowk and Matt E for the heads up!

    Brigitte Interview (September 15, 2011)

    Tuesday, September 20, 2011 | 02:03 UTC | Posted by woj | Articles

I am certain some children are very wise indeed. Smarter than we are, that’s for sure. [Tash and I] were both drawn to the idea of Mother Nature being able to change her appearance. The fact she can have the look of a little girl, but with wisdom of the Earth.

Apologies and thanks to the several of you who sent in translations of last week’s interview in Brigitte that accompanied the premiere of the “Nautical Twilight” video. A little miscommunication on our part resulted in a delay in getting it posted to the site, but here it is at last!

Thanks to Arjan, Marion, mayfly, Saphirestaub, and Luno for helping out with this!

La Vanguardia Interview (September 18, 2011)

    Sunday, September 18, 2011 | 21:38 UTC | Posted by woj | Articles

Night of Hunters has caught the ear of the Spanish press too, with the following article that appeared in today’s edition of La Vanguardia. The piece focuses on Night of Hunters but, unlike most of the other press so far, hits on the album’s themes of love, independence and perserverance.

A rough translation follows the original Spanish.

Le Matin Interview (September 16, 2011)

    Sunday, September 18, 2011 | 20:05 UTC | Posted by woj | Articles

Many of my family members and friends would have loved to have been included on the album. My father the minister even proposed to open my next concert at the Royal Albert Hall. He’s 82 years and he raps! I politely declined his proposal. I can’t include everyone on my albums! When I put on the producer’s hat, I can be bloody.

Tori was interviewed for the French-language Swiss newspaper Le Matin by Miguel Cid. Their conversation touches on the genesis of Night of Hunters, Tori’s relationship with classical music and incorporating family into an artistic endeavor.

A rough translation follows the actual article below.

    A Couple Upcoming Television Appearances...

    Sunday, September 18, 2011 | 17:59 UTC | Posted by woj | TV/Radio/Web

So far, it doesn’t look like Tori is slated to swing by any of the usual late night TV talk shows for an appearance as a musical guest (though we’d expect that to happen when the Night of Hunters tour swings through the States) but she will be a guest on the Tavis Smiley show on PBS on Tuesday, September 20th (it’s the episode with Danny Glover, if you’re looking at listings and not seeing Tori’s name).

Check your local listings PBSschedule search to see when your nearby public television station airs the program. Most stations air the program after Midnight, at 12:30 AM so be careful when setting those DVRs…

The following day, Wednesday, September 21st, Tori will be a guest on the France 2 television program CD’aujourd’hui (one would think that the Tavis Smiley interview is pre-taped and that the French public will not be graced by a jet-lagged Tori!).

Both appearances should be available for viewing after the broadcast on the respective websites so if we’ll all get a chance to see them even if you’re not in an area where the shows are broadcast.

Thanks to mina and @EarWithFeet for bring these to our attention!
