Keep an eye on our Twitter and Facebook pages since we often post quickie updates there when we're on-the-go.
During tours, we do our best to cover setlists in real-time on Twitter. If you want to tweet a show in, just DM or @ us on the day and tell us to watch your stream that night.
Tori is touring in 2017 to support the release of Native Invader. The European legs runs from early September through early October and the North American leg runs from late October to early December. We do not know if additional dates elsewhere will be added.
Be sure to check out our other sections, Tour — where setlists and other concert-related material will be updated daily while Tori is on tour — and You. Lots of interesting stuff!
Everything But Urban has posted a glowing review by Nivedita Gunturi. Giving the album 5 of 5 stars, she calls it a “stunning expression of the true nature of the female spirit.” Encouraging words indeed!
Thanks to Phillip for the tip!
Mike Gray’s review of Night of Hunters for the UK music site The Music Fix hit the web today. Giving it a score of 7 on a 10 point scale, he contends that the record is an effort, perhaps more now than ever, that won’t win Ms. Amos any new fans but should reward those willing to give it time to grow on them.
Update: The Emperor’s Palace website now states that tickets for the two Theatre of Marcellus shows go on sale at 3:00 PM SAST today, Wednesday, September 7th.
Just a quick update on happenings since this morning’s rash of South African ticket info…
First, the third Johannesburg show on Monday, November 14th has been removed from the Emperor’s Palace website. That said, its earlier presence hints at the possibility of the third date being added should the first two sell out, particularly since there are open days between the Johannesburg and Cape Town shows.
Second, Emperor’s Palace continues to say that the shows on the 12th and 13th will go on sale on Wednesday, September 7th at 1:00 PM SAST. However Computicket indicates that those two shows go on sale Thursday, September 8th at 9:00 AM SAST. So, it will behoove those seeking ticket for these shows to check both websites Wednesday and Thursday to see the lay of the land.
Third, the Cape Town show is still not listed at the venue’s website. However, Computicket states that they will start selling tickets for this show at 9:00 AM SAST on Thursday, September 8th as well. We’ll be keeping an eye on both sites as we can until then just in case things move faster than they say.
Finally, all three confirmed shows have been added to the Tour section with ticket links and sale dates and the like. We’ll keep those updated with the latest and greatest as we learn it.
Classical music magazine Gramophone reported on Night of Hunters today and is offering a sneak peak at the album via a streaming conversation between Tori and the magazine’s deputy editor Sarah Kirkup.
To listen to the interview, you’ll have to register for their website (it’s free and only requires an e-mail address, no other personal information) and then hit up their Gramophone Player, where the interview is currently top-billed.
The article also indicates that Tori contributes to the “My Music” feature of the current issue (October 2011). A quick glance through the Gramophone archives shows that this feature is a short essay by the person in question about, you guessed it, music — either what they are listening to, what inspires them, how they compose it or so on. If you want to track that down, check your local newsstand if you’re in the UK or check out Gramophone’s digital subscription service which gives you immediate electronic access to the current edition.
Thanks to mario for the tip!
At long last, Night of Hunters has been added to iTunes and is available for pre-order.
Both the regular edition and the deluxe edition are on the site and, judging by the track listings at least, it does not appear that there will be a special iTunes edition of either edition of the album — though don’t hold us to that as we all know how things can change.
Neither edition is currently offering previews of any tracks from the album.
Interestingly, the deluxe edition track list is missing both the Night of Hunters documentary that other retailers list as the first of three bonus items included in the deluxe edition and the digital booklet that iTunes includes with the regular edition of the album. We’re guessing that both of these are just accidental omissions and that both will be included once the deluxe edition is for sale, if not before — but, again, don’t hold us to that!
Thanks to Kat S. and @NMichaelBashour for catching this and letting us know!
Singaporean newspaper Today has also joined the ranks of the Night of Hunters reviewers. Their review, published in the September 6th edition, comes from Kevin Matthews who gives the album 5 stars out of 5, calling it a “powerful pop-rock work.”
Thanks to Muck for letting us know about this one!
SPIN has posted a brief capsule review of Night of Hunters on (where else?) SPIN.com. They approach the arc of the song-cycle with tongue firmly in cheek, but ultimately approve of the effort, giving the album 7 stars out of 10.
Thanks to James for tipping us off!
Even though Computicket is still listing two shows at the Theatre Of Marcellus at Emperors Palace in Johannesburg, both of which are “on hold”, the venue’s website (scroll down a bit) indicates that there will be three performances on Saturday, November 12th, a matinee on Sunday, November 13th and Monday, November 14th. Tickets for all three shows were being sold briefly earlier but are not currently available and slated to go back on-sale at 1:00 PM local time on Wednesday, September 7th.
Given that the poster for the events shows only the concerts on the 12th and 13th, we’re guessing that the Monday performance was an optional date but it seems that has since been added since the venue does list it.
We’d also expect the Cape Town concert to go on sale soon even though it is not currently listed at the Grand West’s website.
Thanks to elasia, Martin and @RKGraeme for the heads up!
11 years ago today, Natashya Lórien Hawley was welcomed into the world by parents Tori Amos and Mark Hawley, so with out further ado, we’d like to wish her a very happy birthday!
The Skinny, a free culture and events publication for the people of Edinburgh, Glasgow and Dundee, have tossed their hat into the ring with a short but sweet review of Night of Hunters, giving it 4 out of 5 stars and calling it “her strongest album in over a decade.”
