Keep an eye on our Twitter and Facebook pages since we often post quickie updates there when we're on-the-go.
During tours, we do our best to cover setlists in real-time on Twitter. If you want to tweet a show in, just DM or @ us on the day and tell us to watch your stream that night.
Tori is touring in 2017 to support the release of Native Invader. The European legs runs from early September through early October and the North American leg runs from late October to early December. We do not know if additional dates elsewhere will be added.
Be sure to check out our other sections, Tour — where setlists and other concert-related material will be updated daily while Tori is on tour — and You. Lots of interesting stuff!
I’d say in the last few years I’ve had to learn a lot about life’s little surprises. You know that saying “expect the unexpected?” I’d say, “embrace the unexpected,” because that’s where you find that life’s gifts are. That’s where the real inspiration and sparks are. And for me, I’d like to not be closed to different forms of creativity.
Kelly McClure spoke to Tori for VICE Magazine and the resulting interview appeared on their website on October 9th. Their conversation focused on performing live (as the author was one of the lucky ones to get into the (Le) Poisson Rouge concert) but also hits on the reworking of songs for both Gold Dust and live performance, the future, and third eyes. Yep, third eyes. It’s nice when interviews like these make it out into the world.
As an added bonus, the article is peppered with some fantastic new photographs or Tori taken by Kate Black, including the one with the bear. Mmmhmmm.
NPR has added the archived video of last Friday’s webcast from (le) poisson rouge to their website. So, if you missed the webcast, had problems during it or just want to see it again, now you can! (You can also still stream the audio if that’s more your speed.)
On a related note, according to Ann Powers, the pre-show interview of Tori she did prior to the show will be used for a radio special in the Winter, though the transcript should be posted on The Record shortly.
“Cornflake Girl” has gotten the explanatory treatment in NME’s “Classic Songs” series. Taken from the same interview that NME posted a clip from a week or so ago, Tori talks about the meaning and origins of the imagery in the song. Perhaps this is not complete news to all but there’s some good nuggets of knowledge here about one of Tori’s biggest hits.
A week on and a few more reviews of last Wednesday’s Royal Albert Hall concert have rolled in.
Italian music website SpazioRock declared the performance “a magical and unique night” while The Fly takes a slightly more sober tack, appreciating the “charming” performance but ultimately finding the orchestra little too constraining for their tastes. Finally, Clash Music effusively decreed the show “a triumphant evening for an artist who has consistently thought outside the box, and is now exploding it from the inside.” (Whoa!)
The Clash Music review also includes a gallery of photographs from the which we ganked the little picture adorning this story.
Over at the BBC, we get their take on Gold Dust, which finds it a decent (if imperfect) introduction to Tori’s music — or a chance for fans to enjoy these songs again.
If you’re looking for a more positive take on Tori’s latest, check out Paste magazine’s Gold Dust review. Holly Gleason has some enthusiastic things to say about the re-arrangement of several Tori classics. Have a look.
If you didn’t get enough of the PopMatters-on-Tori action last week, here’s their review of Gold Dust. Writer Enio Chiola is critical of much of the album and, in particular, its reworking of “Flavor,” “Cloud on My Tongue,” and “Yes, Anastasia.” Click on through to check it out. Thanks to Erin for sending the link.
The numbers are in, and Gold Dust debuted at #36 on this week’s BBC Top 40 Albums chart, snuggled between Bob Dylan’s Tempest and Papa Roach’s The Connection. Thanks to @iammatthewwolf for the tip!
The Upcoming offers a brief, positive review of Gold Dust from writer Matt Di Salvo, who gives it three dots.
DJ/remix artist Peter Rauhofer (formerly known as Club 69 or Size Queen) announced on Facebook that he will be remixing the Gold Dust version of “Flavor.” Rauhofer is already pretty well known for is remixes of songs such as Madonna’s “Nothing Really Matters” and “4 Minutes,” Rihanna’s “Don’t Stop the Music,” Seal’s “Killer,” and Goldfrapp’s “Ooh La La.”
