    On Fire in Milan

    Tuesday, July 13, 2010 | 23:13 UTC | Posted by woj | Touring

Tori performed at Villa Arconati in Milano, Italy tonight. Although she repeated a few songs that had been played at the few other shows so far this summer, she broke out a whole new set of tunes including “Siren,” “Doughnut Song” “Caught A Lite Sneeze,” “Northern Lad,” “Gold Dust,” “Yes, Anastasia” and the occasionally performed cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “I’m On Fire.” Additionally, the “Body and Soul”/“Personal Jesus” mash-up from two days ago in Brugge made a repeat appearance in tonight’s encore.

The full setlist, with thanks to @ta_ru for updating us on Twitter, has been posted on the Milano page in the Tour section. We’d love to hear from those who were in attendance about tonight’s performance! If you were there and are inclined to share, please post a review using the comment form there.

The Week of the Artists Den

    Tuesday, July 13, 2010 | 10:53 UTC | Posted by woj | Releases,TV/Radio/Web

Just a quick reminder that the episode of Live from the Artists Den featuring Tori is slated to air on PBS stations across the United States during this week. In most markets, the program airs towards the end of the week (Thursday in Philadelphia, Friday in New York City, Sunday in Los Angeles), but check your local PBS station’s listing to make sure.

If you can’t wait that long, a commercial DVD of this performance, which includes two songs not shown during the broadcast, is released today through Barnes & Noble.

    Tori Blooms at the Cactusfestival

    Sunday, July 11, 2010 | 23:08 UTC | Posted by woj | Touring

Tori was the second last performer at this year’s Cactusfestival at Minnewaterpark in Brugge, Belgium, followed only by Macy Gray who closed out the festival. Tori’s set spanned a hour and twenty minutes and featured Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” “Beauty of Speed,” The Cure’s “Lovesong,” “Take To The Sky” and Depeche Mode’s “Personal Jesus” mixed in with “Body & Soul.” The full setlist, thanks to tweeters @NicotineLove and @Shireen86, has been posted in the Tour section.

If you were in attendance and care to share your opinion, photos or videos of the performance, please do so using the form at the bottom of that page!

The Montreux Jazz Festival Welcomes Tori

    Friday, July 09, 2010 | 23:56 UTC | Posted by woj | Touring

Many thanks to @NicotineLove and PeleBoy for sharing the setlist from the first show of Tori’s European Summer tour at the Montreux Jazz Festival tonight. We’re still trying to sort out the exact order, but the songs performed have been posted in the Tour section. After being introduced by Quincy Jones (!), Tori opened the show with “Original Sinsuality” and featured “Dragon,” “Snow Cherries From France,” “Girl,” That Guy,” and “Pretty Good Year” during the rest of the set.

As always, we’d love to hear what those of you who were lucky enough to be at the show thought of it. Please feel free to post a review in the comments on the Montreux page.

    Tori's Summer Tour Starts Tomorrow!

    Friday, July 09, 2010 | 03:18 UTC | Posted by woj | Touring

As most of you no doubt know, Tori’s first show on her Summer 2010 European tour is Friday, July 9th. She’ll be performing at Miles Davis Hall in Montreux, Switzerland as part of this year’s Montreux Jazz Festival. Following that, there’ll be two weeks of additional festival and theatre performances scattered across Europe, a show in Moscow in September and a special performance in October in Amsterdam with The Metropole Orchestra.

Unexpected though this mini-tour was, we at Undented will do the expected concert coverage, as we have done in the past. However, due to recent events and the fact that most of these upcoming shows will be happening right in the middle of my workday, our real-time coverage here and on Twitter will be spotty at best. We’ll still get setlists posted as soon as we can as well as share and host your reviews, photos and videos after each show but please be patient with us if we don’t get some things posted as quickly as we have in the past.

Nevertheless, we appreciate all the reports from the shows via whatever communication channel you like so keep ‘em coming! And to those of you going to the shows, enjoy!

The New York Times Profiles The Artists Den

    Monday, July 05, 2010 | 16:00 UTC | Posted by woj | Articles

The New York Times ran a piece in the July 4th edition of the newspaper on the upcoming second season of Live From the Artists Den. While ostensibly a piece about the program, touching on its history and evolution and discussing the artists and venues lined up in the second season, it also features quotes from Tori and her manager, John Witherspoon about the nature of the show and performing on it.

Joe Jackson's Spirit Walk With Tori

    Sunday, June 27, 2010 | 19:30 UTC | Posted by woj | Articles

In advance of Tori’s upcoming show at Iveagh Gardens in Dublin, The Independent has run a retrospective by celebrity interviewer Joe Jackson where he ruminates on the several times he interviewed Tori in the past and it their relationship has impacted his life.

Perhaps most interestingly, he discusses the behind-the-scenes details about his 1994 Hot Press piece in which Tori most directly addressed her rape and sexual assault that kept it out of the Irish Times and lead to it being published in Hot Press. Additionally, if you go to his website, you can find PDF downloads of the banned Irish Times interview as well as the rewritten article for Hot Press.

Thanks to Stoff for the tip!

With the Southern hemisphere having just passed through the Winter Solstice, Midwinter Graces has received some attention in the southern reaches of the globe, even if the more overtly Christmas-oriented elements of the album are half a year away. This review appeared on South Africa’s Exclusive Books storefront on the Solstice itself and is a nice overview of the album.

    Kim Flint, 1969 - 2010

    Friday, June 25, 2010 | 09:16 UTC | Posted by woj | Site News

We’re very sad to report, as some of you may have heard by now, the news that Violet’s husband of 19 years, Kim Flint, was tragically killed in a bicycling accident this past weekend.

While probably not a name recognized by many of Undented’s visitors, Kim is very well-known in musician’s circles as the co-inventor of the Oberheim Echoplex Digital Pro, a device for looping audio, and the founder of Looper’s Delight, an Internet mailing-list and website that began in 1996 and brought together and forged a community of musicians interested in looping that continues to thrive to this day. As Red Sun Soundroom’s memorial post says, “Kim was an inventor, musician, internet community organizer, scientist, avid cyclist, single-malt Scotch enthusiast, teacher, and tireless provider of encouragement to so many creative people (some quite famous, others relatively unknown).”

He was also manager of the Signal Integrity group at tech giant Nvidia. Among his many contributions, he worked closely with Sony in development of Playstation 3, and was currently working on development of Playstation 4.

As great as his technological contributions were, it was the community-building and creative inspiration to others that Kim provided through Looper’s Delight that he will be most remembered for. Undoubtedly, that factored into Violet’s involvement in providing the original Tori Amos mailing list, really-deep-thoughts, a stable home and guidance in its latter years as well as her decision to pick up with Undented where Mikewhy left off when he retired A Dent in the Tori Amos Universe (which, incidentally, continues to be hosted on the same server as Looper’s Delight and Undented thanks to Kim and Violet’s support).

In honor of Kim, Violet will be continuing to grow and expand the sites they started as well as moving forward with future web endeavors in his memory. If you’d like make a donation in Kim’s honor, we’ve set up a Paypal account for that purpose. Additionally, a memorial t-shirt has also been created by Chris Aynesworth, a close friend of Violet and Kim’s, all proceeds of which will go towards keeping their sites running.

Finally, to close this on inspirational note, Bill Walker, one of the many people touched by Kim, shared “Blues For Kim,” a live looping improvisation he shared with the Looper’s Delight community after learning of the accident. Listen and be inspired.
