    Tori Swings By WFUV

    Friday, September 30, 2011 | 02:10 UTC | Posted by woj | TV/Radio/Web

The sleuthy EarWithFeet turned up a small but sweet set of photos taken when Tori visited the WFUV studios in New York City on September 23rd. All told, there are three shots of her playing the piano and one of her with WFUV deejay Darren DeVivo.

According to the set’s description, she recorded an interview and performance but, judging by WFUV’s past and future listings, the appearance has not aired yet. Definitely something to keep an eye out for — we’re guessing it would be featured in their Words and Music from Studio A series.

Fortunately, if anyone misses it, whenever it is aired, WFUV archives much of their guest appearances — check out the segments with Tori in their archives.

Arte Features on Tori and Night of Hunters

    Wednesday, September 28, 2011 | 03:16 UTC | Posted by woj | TV/Radio/Web,Video

The French/German arts television channel Arte has featured two video clips with Tori on their Arte Journal blog. The first is an edited piece, with French or German overdubs, of Tori being interviewed at her house in Kinsale, Ireland (though you can make out Tori’s original comments in English pretty easily if you are not fluent in those languages) while the second is a fascinating clip of Tori talking at length about the song “Battle of Trees” from Night of Hunters.

With apologies to German readers, we have embedded the French language clips below. You can access the German ones here or by toggling the language selector in the lower right-hand corner of the video player.

    Connecting With Tori on KCSN

    Sunday, September 25, 2011 | 14:30 UTC | Posted by woj | TV/Radio/Web

Tori’s appearance on Nic Harcourt’s KCSN radio program Connections is now available for streaming from the program’s website. Click on the “2011-09-24” button on the right of the player there and the three-hour show should start streaming. Nic kicked off the show by playing “Carry” from the album but the actual in-studio interview and performance takes up the last half-hour of the program.

The session included performances of “Edge of the Moon,” “Nautical Twilight,” “Cloud on my Tongue,” and “Carry.” The balance of the half-hour was spent in discussion with Nic about Night of Hunters, from its start as a commission by Deustche Grammaphon to the inspiration for the story that makes up the narrative of the album to the incorporation of Ireland into the story. She also gives some details about the narrative that hadn’t surfaced in other interviews so far.

    Definitely worth a listen!

The Guardian's Music Weekly Welcomes Tori

    Saturday, September 24, 2011 | 23:02 UTC | Posted by woj | TV/Radio/Web

Tori is the guest on this week’s episode of Music Weekly, The Guardian’s cleverly-titled weekly music podcast. During Tori’s conversation with Alex Macpherson, who recently reviewed Night of Hunters for The Guardian, they discuss the new record, her incorporation of mythology into the album’s story and the challenges of working within the structures of classical music.

You can stream the entire program from The Guardian’s website, download a mp3 or pick up a copy of the program from iTunes, so there’s no excuse for not giving this a listen!

A Few More Upcoming Media Appearances

    Saturday, September 24, 2011 | 02:47 UTC | Posted by woj | TV/Radio/Web

Today, Tori was a guest on Jennifer Koppelman Hutt’s program Whatever on the Martha Stewart Living Radio channel on Sirius XM. The program rebroadcasts tonight at 11:00 PM Eastern (about a hour from when this post was being written) in case any subscribers are able to catch it. This program does not seem to be archived, though you can sign up for a free trial and maybe catch the rebroadcast. We’re kinda hoping that some clips show up on the Martha Stewart Radio Blog, though we ‘re not holding our breath. If anyone happens to have heard or, better yet, recorded this appearance, please let us know!.

Tomorrow, Saturday, September 24th, Tori will be Nic Harcourt’s guest on his KCSN radio program Connections. Connections airs from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM Pacific. Fortunately, the program is archived so if you miss it, you’ll be able to stream it from KSAN’s website.

Finally, Tori will be a guest on Better on September 29th. This syndicated shows airs around the United States on various broadcast television stations. Check your local listings or their station finder to see if it airs in your area.

Thanks to Mark-Alexis for the Better tip!

Tori Checks in With Janice Long

    Saturday, September 24, 2011 | 01:23 UTC | Posted by woj | TV/Radio/Web

While the BBC was a little cagey about advertising it, Tori stopped by their studios to be interviewed for Janice Long’s overnight Radio 2 programme and their discussion was aired during the September 22nd edition of her show.

Tori did not perform live during the show but two tracks from the album, “The Chase” and “Shattering Sea,” were played during the segment.

In addition to chatting about Night of Hunters, Tori also inaugurated a spoken word series for Janice program by reading Édouard Boubat’s comments about his photograph “Little Girl With Dead Leaves,” which is pictured below:

The archive of the program is available via the BBC’s iPlayer through Wednesday, September 28th. After that, listen via Soundcloud:

    Tori on CD'Aujourd'hui

    Saturday, September 24, 2011 | 00:28 UTC | Posted by woj | TV/Radio/Web,Video

As we mentioned earlier this week, Tori was featured this past Wednesday, September 21st, on the French television program CD’Aujourd’hui.

Unfortunately, the video clip on the France 2 website is not functioning properly but, thanks to the miracle of YouTube, we all can view the interview about the story that makes up Night of Hunters as well as her relationship to the “Tori” that is the main character of the song-cycle.

Thanks to @earWithFeet and @knotsinhishair for the link!

    Tavis Smiley Interview

    Saturday, September 24, 2011 | 00:06 UTC | Posted by woj | TV/Radio/Web,Video

Tori’s September 20th appearance on the Tavis Smiley show has now been archived on the PBS website for those who missed it — or those who want to watch it again. During the spot, she talked with Tavis about Night of Hunters and performed the song “Carry.”

She also performed “Silent All These Years” which, as we posted about earlier this week, can be viewed on YouTube, courtesy of the show’s musical director Jonathan X.

The interview and performance are also available on the Tavis Smiley podcast via iTunes.

PBS has also kindly provided a transcript of the interview which you can read on the PBS website or after the jump.

    Tavis Smiley Reminder...and Sneak Preview!

    Wednesday, September 21, 2011 | 01:38 UTC | Posted by woj | TV/Radio/Web,Video

Even though we’ve not had a chance to add it — or anything else — to the Calendar yet, don’t forget that Tori will be interviewed on the PBS program Tavis Smiley tonight. The show typically airs at 12:30 AM on most PBS stations, but definitely check your local listings to see when or if it is shown in your area.

Fortunately, PBS repeats these programs often so if you miss it today, you should have a second (or third or fourth) chance later in the week. Even more fortunately, the interviews are typically available for streaming on the Tavis Smiley website within a day or two so everyone not in the reach of a PBS station, whether in the States or not, should have a chance to see this interview before too long.

However, turns out that the musical director for the program, one Jonathan X, has uploaded a video of Tori performing “Silent All These Years” and “Carry” for the show to YouTube already! Go figger! Enjoy!

Thanks to @UpOnThe101 for the tip!

Night of Hunters Track by Track Commentary on Spotify

    Wednesday, September 21, 2011 | 01:20 UTC | Posted by woj | TV/Radio/Web

    Got Spotify?

If so, then you might be interested in knowing that there is a companion album available on this digital music service called About Night of Hunters. This collection contains short commentary on each track of the album, as introduced by Tori herself.

If you’re not on Spotify already, there are a number of options available to join thoughy be warned that, at this point at least, the commentary is only available to US Spotify users. Hopefully that will change soon.

A sage nod of our head to @EarWithFeet for mentioning this on Tumblr which is where we found out about this.
