Gerry Kelly Interview (April 18, 2014)

    Saturday, April 19, 2014 | 03:00 UTC | Posted by woj | TV/Radio/Web

Only one radio appearance was broadcast today — after the past few days, that almost feels like we’re being gypped! But seriously, BBC Radio Ulster’s Gerry Kelly’s chat with Tori about her relationship with Ireland, her family history, and the upcoming tour.

You can listen to it on Radio Ulster’s website for the next week — Tori comes on around the 16 minute 40 second mark. We’ve also added their chat to Soundcloud if that’s more your speed.

Thought I Knew Myselfie So Well

If you’re not already, keep an eye on the Tori Amos Instagram (as well as the other social media channels) as there’s been a steady stream of photos from Berlin, London and, we expect, where ever the promotion and tour for Unrepentant Geraldines takes her.

Today’s offerings did not disappoint — one gives us a behind-the-scenes look on a photo and television shoot in London earlier today while the other is, as you may have guessed from our puntastic article title, a selfie with Tash!

P.S. Please don’t hate us for saying “selfie.”

    The Unrepentant Radio Barrage Continues

    Friday, April 18, 2014 | 02:29 UTC | Posted by woj | TV/Radio/Web

Several more radio spots promoting the new record have taken place since we last posted.

First, she called into Chris and Emma at Breakfast on Gaydio on Wednesday, April 15th. We’re earlier risers but was still a little too early in the morning for us in the States so we missed it but the appearance should be included in their podcast next week.

Second, there was a spot on The Tony Fenton Show on TodayFM, also on Wednesday, the 15th. Their rather relaxed conversation, in which she indicated there could be a Piano Bar component to the upcoming tour, is available for streaming up on the radio station’s website:

Third, a pre-recorded conversation with The Breeze’s Damien St. John was sprinkled throughout his program on Wednesday evening. In addition to explaining the title of the record and talking about the upcoming tour, she also commiserated with Damien about sexist yoga mats. Go figger! Fortunately, the full clip has been posted on their website:

Fourth, Celebrity Radio’s Alex Belfield posted an interview with Tori that took place earlier this week. Oddly, he asks no questions about the new record but there is a fair amount of interesting discussion about other topics ranging from songwriting to her relationship with the piano to her relationship with her audience. It’s a bit of a strange chat in light of the promotional push for the new record but perhaps more interesting for it.

Updating a previous interview, Fubar Radio uploaded a couple clips from the interview to Soundcloud:

Finally, here’s a recap of the upcoming radio spots we know about. If you know of any others, please let us know!

    1. Friday afternoon between 3 and 5 pm on The Gerry Kelly Show on Radio Ulster (source)
    2. Saturday afternoon between Noon and 3 pm on Scotland 69am (source)
    3. Next week on Minster FM with Alex Brown (source).
    4. Sometime soon on Phil Marriot’s program on Gaydio — we’re told the whole show will be dedicated to her and he’s posted a teaser clip from their discussion to whet the appetite! (source)

Yet More From The Making of Unrepentant Geraldines

    Wednesday, April 16, 2014 | 22:28 UTC | Posted by woj | TV/Radio/Web

A third clip from the interview included in the deluxe edition of Unrepentant Geraldines has been posted on Toir’s official YouTube. In this minute-long snippet, Tori addresses the progression of an artist’s life and work and how those who create have to relate to their work to make it vital.

Thanks to Dylan for the link!

Holy Crap! Is That Tori Amos On The Radio?

    Wednesday, April 16, 2014 | 00:04 UTC | Posted by woj | TV/Radio/Web

Tori’s in London and, seemingly, spent today doing a number of radio interviews – some live, some recorded for later broadcast. Translation: the promotional onslaught is underway!

First up, she called into Dave White’s program on BBC Radio Cornwall for a relaxed chat about Unrepentant Geraldines, the nature of“Trouble’s Lament,” turning 50, family, touring, and her uncanny effect on the Cornish weather. You can listen to it for the next seven days on the BBC website (it starts around the 1 hour, 44 minute mark) or you can stream just the interview itself on audioboo, to which the BBC has kindly uploaded the clip to:

Second, she phoned into the studios of FubarRadio to speak with presenter Mark Dolan. As one might expect, the topics covered were pretty much the same (steel yourself!), but she also dropped the big news that a full cast recording of The Light Princess is being recorded in the coming week and that it will be released next year! Playwright Samuel Adamson tweeted the same subsequently as well, so there is something to look forward to after Unrepentant Geraldines winds down by the end of the year! A partial recording of this interview popped up on Youtube, thanks to James Howarth:

Thirdly, a scan of Twitter revealed mention of several upcoming radio appearances to keep an eye out for. The ones we know about (all times are either British Summer Time or Irish Summer Time) are:

    1. Wednesday morning between 7 and 10 am on Gaydio during the Chris and Emma at Breakfast show (source).
    2. Wednesday afternoon between 2:30 and 4:30 pm on TodayFM with Tony Fenton (source)
    3. Saturday afternoon between Noon and 3 pm on Scotland 69am (source)
    4. Next week on Minster FM with Alex Brown (source).
    5. Sometime soon on Phil Marriot’s program on Gaydio (source)

Undoubtedly, there are other. Please let us know if you hear of one that we haven’t listed already!

Listen: Radio Eins Interview (April 9, 2014)

    Friday, April 11, 2014 | 23:42 UTC | Posted by woj | TV/Radio/Web

Following the album release kick-off on Tuesday, the album promo train kept on chugging with a stop by the studios of Radio Eins in Berlin on Thursday, April 10th. Tori spent about a hour chatting with programmer Anja Caspary about everything from Unrepentant Geraldines and Kurt Cobain to the origins of Armand van Helden’s “Professional Widow” remix and Tori’s Saab. Several songs were played, including “Trouble’s Lament” and, after the appearance completed, a portion of “Promise,” the duet with Tash on the new record.

Radio Eins has kindly posted audio of the interview for streaming although, unfortunately, all songs played were edited out. Still, the entirety of the interview was recorded by intrepid fans and you can check out the clip of “Promise” on Tumblr

More From The Making of Unrepentant Geraldines

    Wednesday, April 09, 2014 | 00:43 UTC | Posted by woj | Releases,TV/Radio/Web

A second clip of Tori discussing Unrepentant Geraldines was posted on the offcial YouTube channel today. In this minute long snippet, Tori talks about being — or not being — shocking and the interplay of age and message with respect to the new record.

    Check it out below:

Suppose that rules out another pig-suckling photograph, huh?

    The Making of Unrepentant Geraldines

    Tuesday, April 01, 2014 | 20:43 UTC | Posted by woj | Releases,TV/Radio/Web

In what we hope is just the first of a series, a new video has just been posted on the Tori Amos Youtube channel in which Tori discusses the making of Unrepentant Geraldines.

Not much is revealed about the record itself, though Tori mentions the repentant Magdalene and Geraldine. Snippets of several songs from the record make up the backing track so this is our first taste of the music beyond “Trouble’s Lament.” So, if you’re holding out for the whole record before listening to any music from it, you might not want to watch this. However, it is pretty interesting to see video taken during the photo shoots for the album spliced in with Tori discussing about the inspirations and directions for this record.

Certainly there is more to this video than the 3 minutes included here so we’re looking forward to more segments being shared soon. We’d guess, too, that this video will be on the DVD included in the album’s deluxe edition.

Listen: Marianne Elliot And Rae Smith Discuss The Light Princess

    Tuesday, January 21, 2014 | 13:55 UTC | Posted by woj | Cherries,TV/Radio/Web

On January 9th, The Light Princess’ director Marianne Elliot and designer Rae Smith took place in a platform at The National Theatre to discuss their work on the musical with Rachel Cooke. Audio from that conversation is now available on The National’s Soundcloud page:

Listen To The Front Row Appearance

    Tuesday, October 15, 2013 | 09:56 UTC | Posted by woj | TV/Radio/Web

If you missed Mark Lawson’s conversation with Tori Amos and Samuel Adamson on yesterday’s Front Row, the archive is now available on BBC iPlayer for the next week. Additionally, the program is also available as a podcast where you can either stream or download it. The direct link to yesterday’s episode is http://downloads.bbc.co.uk/podcasts/radio4/frontrow/frontrow_20131014-2000a.mp3. The podcast is stored indefinitely.

Update: we’ve also clipped it out of the podcast and posted it on SoundCloud for posterity:

The conversation is actually quite an interesting one. Recorded prior to press night for the production, Tori and Sam talk about where the idea for the production came from, the songs (Tori’s demos of most songs exist but locked away in the vault!), the unlikeliness of an album featuring the songs as performed by Tori, the possibility of her reusing some of the songs in her own work, working with Marianne Elliot on the staging, and their thoughts on doing something like this again.

    Definitely worth the listen.
