Tori Sa-Sa-Sacrifices Higher UK Chart Rank

    Thursday, May 10, 2007 | 08:34 UTC | Posted by Violet | Releases

    From Everythingtori.com:

We’ve had a lot of people asking so we thought we would take the opportunity to clarify something. According to the UK Chart Regulations, the limited edition special package of American Doll Posse has been disqualified from the UK Charts. Apparently offering the fans 5 postcards is considered too much of a gift, and sales of the CD are ineligible. Tori made the decision not to compromise the packaging so the UK fans would receive the same presentation as the rest of the world. We appreciate your interest and concern for the situation.

“Too much of a gift”? The sales of all the limited edition copies in the UK aren’t going to be counted because of what basically amounts to some extra album artwork? That seems pretty ridiculous to us. Come on, UK chart rulemaking people, these are copies of the ALBUM and they were SOLD. Count them, ferchrissakes.

Update: for interest, under the very short section on “Permitted Free Gifts,” the official UK chart rules state:

“Cards” to a maximum of 4. Card(s) must be contained within the format packaging and be 2 sided with no folds. Card(s) maybe printed on both sides. Maximum card size is dictated by the dimensions of the packaging they are to be contained within.

( Randy tells us they disqualified Beck’s last album too, because of stickers. Our jaws are on the floor.)

Whomever came up with those rules needs to get to a proctologist immediately. The Undented Doctor diagnoses severe anal retentiveness in need of urgent emergency treatment.

Tori Amos/Patrick Wolf Feature in The Advocate

    Wednesday, May 09, 2007 | 23:17 UTC | Posted by Beth | Articles

Blonds are flighty, brunets are sensible, and redheads strong-willed and crazy. Or so stereotypes would have us believe. Neither Tori Amos nor Patrick Wolf puts much stock in conventional attitudes, yet each has carved out a niche as distinctive as their carrot-topped counterparts Aphrodite, Napoleon Bonaparte, and Peppermint Patty.

Dane sent us a scan of this article, called “Scarlet Fever,” from the May 8, 2007 issue of The Advocate. While it manages to get several things incorrect, it’s still pretty fun. Almost as fun as being a redhead is.

Tori's "When You Were 17" Interview

    Wednesday, May 09, 2007 | 20:32 UTC | Posted by Beth | Articles

    Dear 17-year-old self,

I know you spend a lot of your time wishing to be older. You will be, trust me. The focused need to achieve will serve you well. However, being able to laugh could also serve you. You won’t stop making mistakes. There is no shame in an honest mistake. Not everyone is deserving of friendship. So why extend a hand of friendship to someone who is not prepared to uphold their end of the bargain? It’s better to be alone with your piano than stuck with a so-called friend who undermines you when they can get away with it. Friendship cannot be a one-way relationship. As for boyfriends? Well, what you find attractive now will bore you once you discover the definition of what a “bad boy” truly is. Respecting women and consequently not needing to verbally abuse women to feel powerful, these are truly the sexy bad boys. You will marry one.

    Hugs,

    T

P.S. Don’t cut your hair for the “Just Right” commercial.

    Megastar ADP Review

    Wednesday, May 09, 2007 | 19:38 UTC | Posted by Beth | Reviews

Yes, it might have sold more if she’d cut back, but don’t let the length put you off. Amos still has the ability to inspire and move, and just like Bjork, who releases Volta next week, she remains one of the most distinctive female artists in music today.

    Tori interview in the Advocate

    Wednesday, May 09, 2007 | 19:33 UTC | Posted by Beth | Articles

“Ecstasy has to be e plus e, erotica plus eloquence. And it has always been the eloquence that they’ve tried to remind me to keep because the first without the last is just—it can be a sad story, a bit tragic.”

    Tori on Star! Daily Today

    Tuesday, May 08, 2007 | 20:37 UTC | Posted by Violet | TV/Radio/Web

Tori will be on Star! Daily today in Canada.

    TORI UNCOVERED
Tori Amos is at the forefront of female singer/songwriters and an icon to a generation of women. But ever since the birth of her daughter, Tori (in her own words) has “put down her tomahawk” and approached her art in a different way. “Star! Daily’s” Husein Madhavji uncovers the five personas Tori uses to express her view of the world on her latest album American Doll Posse.

Star!, A-Channel, and Citytv will air the show at different times in different areas. Check your local listings by going to the websites, selecting your city (on some pages, it’s on the entry page, on others it’s in the bottom right corner), and then clicking on “TV schedule” in the top links bar.

    CD Times' ADP Review

    Monday, May 07, 2007 | 00:34 UTC | Posted by Beth | Reviews

Although she claims the eclecticism that drives this album is an exploration of the female psyche’s different facets, I would argue that the diversity on display is Amos covering all bases so as not to receive the critical lashing she received from fans two years ago. I don’t really care which motivation is true when it has resulted in what is definitely her best ‘pop’ album in at least five years.

ADP Review in New York Times

    Monday, May 07, 2007 | 00:27 UTC | Posted by Beth | Reviews

“American Doll Posse” isn’t quite the fans-only project it might first seem to be. Although the album’s conceit might seem heavy-handed, Ms. Amos treats the whole thing like a game: this is her most entertaining album in years, precisely because she keeps switching among characters and styles.

Phillip tipped us off to this favorable review of American Doll Posse from the New York Times:
