All Hip Hop Interview (September 25, 2007)

    Tuesday, September 25, 2007 | 21:30 UTC | Posted by Beth | Articles

One of the big corners of my life is Public Enemy’s Fear Of A Black Planet. Nobody would know that was the inspiration behind Little Earthquakes; but it was. That’s the truth. [laughs] Energetically, this is a woman fighting for her soul and they were fighting for their souls. You know what we should do that would be kind of crazy? It would be fun to see what three Hip-Hop songs I can cover on this tour.

Some of you may remember years ago when Tonedeff sampled “Cloud on my Tongue” for his song “Circles,” which also made copious references to Tori’s lyrics. Now, Tonedeff — along with Kathy Iandoli — interviews Tori for All Hip Hop and gets some unusual thoughts out of her.

Additionally, Tonedeff also blogged about the interview where he confesses to being floored by Under The Pink and cites Tori as biggest musical inspiration. (Thanks Jena!)

    Clyde Closes Out Sydney...

    Monday, September 24, 2007 | 14:34 UTC | Posted by woj | Touring

The third and final Sydney show on the Australian leg was opened by Clyde, leaving Santa as the only member of the posse not to visit the Opera House. Highlights of the set included an improv before Cornflake Girl, “Mother Revolution”, “Digital Ghost” and “Pancake”. During T & Bö, she played “Cloud On My Tongue” and Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide”. The full setlist, which came from danere via the FeelTheWord forum, can be found on our third Sydney page.

If you were there, please feel free to post your thoughts about the show!

    Triple J Interview on JTV

    Saturday, September 22, 2007 | 15:57 UTC | Posted by woj | TV/Radio/Web

Although the schedule doesn’t show it yet, we’ve heard from Kelli and others that Tori’s chat with Robbie Buck on Top Shelf was filmed and will be broadcast on jtv on Friday, September 28th. Jtv, which is a visual peek into the world of Triple J radio, airs late on Friday nights right before rage. Check your local listings for the exact time in your area. If you miss it or live outside of ABC’s broadcast range (say, perhaps, in Vanuatu), the interview should be available for download next Saturday.

Incidentally, while I have your attention, the audio of Tori’s appearance on Top Shelf can be downloaded as a mp3 from Triple J’s website. Interviews will fall off their archive eventually so grab it while you can!

Update: Ursula points out that the 1998 Richard Kingsmill interview (transcript from The Dent) referenced during the Top Shelf appearance is also available as a mp3 download from Triple J. This awkward, yet amusing, interview is a intersting listen and study in the contrast and interaction between the media and the artist. Good stuff and thanks for reminding us of it!

    Brisbane: Santa

    Saturday, September 22, 2007 | 15:21 UTC | Posted by woj | Touring

Santa opened up the concert in Brisbane tonight, including “Sugar” among her usual set of songs. Other highlights from the setlist, which was posted on @forums by twice as hard, include “Honey”, “General Joy”, “Cooling” (with, for the first time ever (whoops!) since the 1998 club show in Toronto, the brambles bridge included!), “Digital Ghost” and “Hotel”. Check out the full setlist on the Brisbane page and, if you were there, please let us know what you thought of the show!

    On Sale Today (September 22)

    Saturday, September 22, 2007 | 07:05 UTC | Posted by Violet | Touring

Just a reminder that tickets for Salt Lake City and Phoenix go on general sale at 10am today, Saturday, September 22nd.

While both cities are technically in the Mountain time zone, Phoenix doesn’t change time zones for the summer months, so it’s currently in the same time zone as the west coast states. Yeah, we know, it’s a bit confusing, so if you’re purchasing from elsewhere:

Visit the Tour section for ticket links and suchlike.
