The American Doll Posse Bootlegs: What We Know Now

    Tuesday, September 18, 2007 | 04:45 UTC | Posted by woj | Releases

We’ve gotten a few questions lately about the plans for official bootlegs of the American Doll Posse Tour. Unfortunately, after first hearing about this from Martijn’s conversation with Tori back in April, we have learned very little about what is planned. Here’s a quick summary of what’s surfaced about this so far.

First, when asked about this at a meet and greet in Europe, Tori said that there would be some kind of DVD release after the tour was over and also indicated that copies of each show on the North American leg of the tour would be recorded and released as mp3s after the show.

Second, the press release announcing the North American tour said, “Amos will also be announcing a series of official live bootlegs recorded during her Fall Tour. This is a follow up with a twist to her successful series of six live double-CD bootlegs released in 2005 featuring concerts in Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston, Denver, London and Manchester.”

    And that’s about it.

So, while it is clear that there will be some sort of official live recordings released for this tour, the exact details are yet to be announced.

    Salt Lake City Ticket Information

    Tuesday, September 18, 2007 | 04:03 UTC | Posted by woj | Touring

SmithsTix, the ticket vendor The E Center in Salt Lake City, has added a listing for the November 29th show at Salt Lake City, Utah. Tickets go on-sale on Saturday, September 22nd at 10:00 AM MDT. Prices are not yet listed either at SmithTix or The E Center’s website — which still does not even have the show on their event calendar, though given the listing on ToriAmos.com and EverythingTori, it’s safe to assume that is an oversight by The E Center.

Thanks to Kevin Lindstrom for the tip!

Matt Chamberlain Happenings: Floratone and Sara Bareilles

    Tuesday, September 18, 2007 | 03:40 UTC | Posted by woj | Them

One thing I’ve been meaning to post about, since seeing it mentioned on Matt Chamberlain’s MySpace, is Floratone, a collaboration between Matt, renowned guitarist Bill Frisell and producers Tucker Martine and Lee Townsend. Well, last week, Floratone’s recently released album was reviewed on National Public Radio and, as I listened to the spot while driving home from work, thought, “Self, there are gonna be a few mentions of this in the Undented mailbox tonight.” Sure enough, Richard Handal and SomaRiot proved me right.

Floratone is an intriguing project: the result of several days of free jamming by Matt and Bill back in 2005 followed by Tucker and Lee digging through the tapes to find and produce the 11-track album from the raw material that Matt and Bill laid down. Between the several songs streaming on the Floratone website and the NPR piece, curious parties can get a good idea of what the music sounds like. It’s all instrumental, but don’t let the lack of words keep you from checking out one of the, IMHO, more interesting releases of the year.

If you prefer music with words, Matt also worked on Little Voice, the latest album by singer-songwriter and pianist Sara Bareilles, which just happened to be produced by Eric Rosse. Thanks to Kate for that tidbit (and apologies for taking so long to mention it here) and Ryno for reminding me about Eric’s production credit, which I forgot to mention in last night’s adrenalin-powered update haze.

    Ticketmaster Lists Phoenix

    Tuesday, September 18, 2007 | 02:00 UTC | Posted by woj | Touring

Rejoice, denizens of the Valley of the Sun! (Ra! Ra! Ra!) The Phoenix concert has been added to Ticketmaster!

As previously reported, the show goes on-sale to the general public on Saturday, September 22nd at 10:00 MST. Ticketmaster also lists an iTunes presale on Wednesday, September 19th, starting at 10:00 AM MST. And while it is not yet listed on Ticketmaster, The Tori Store confirmed that VIP tickets will be available for the Phoenix concert, also going on-sale on Wednesday at 10:00 AM MST at Ticketmaster.

Non-Arizonans, don’t forget that Arizona does not practice Daylight Savings Time! Fortunately, The Fixed Time World Clock can sort out what time 10:00 AM in Phoenix is where ever you happen to be in the world.

Since it’s been a while since the intial flurry of ticket sales for the North American tour, a quick reminder: the iTunes pre-sale requires a personalized password that was sent to people who pre-ordered American Doll Posse from iTunes. In contrast, VIP tickets DO NOT require a password and can be purchased by anyone. However, the number of VIP packages is very limited and they will sell out quickly.

    New Date Announced: Boise!

    Monday, September 17, 2007 | 21:00 UTC | Posted by Violet | Touring

Saar spotted a new U.S. tour date on Everything Tori: Boise, Idaho! (No! You da ho!)

The show will be on November 30, 2007 at the Morrison Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets go on sale September 28th through IdahoTickets.com. As such, one would guess that there will not be an iTunes pre-sale for this show. However, that certainly would not rule out the possibility of a pre-sale of some sort or another, as has happened at other non-Ticketmaster venues on the tour.

VIP packages will NOT be available for this concert.

Update: The Idaho Statesman reported on the show in their September 21st edition. They didn’t really mention anything new, but completely forgot about the 2002-3 tour with the band when saying that Tori hasn’t toured with a band since 1999.

Tori Amos to play Morrison Center

    Statesman staff – Idaho Statesman
    Edition Date: 09/21/07

Tori Amos, the pianist and singer-songwriter who developed a huge cult following in the 1990s, will come to the Morrison Center in Boise on her American Doll Posse Tour Nov. 30.

The American Doll concept features Amos portraying five distinct characters. Each night of her tour, one of the “characters” will perform a set before Amos comes on stage as herself.

Each of these characters has her own blog through Amos’ Website.

In addition to her split personalities, Amos will have a full band with her on tour for the first time since 1999’s Five and a Half Weeks Tour.

Tickets for the show cost $39.50 and go on sale Friday, Sept. 28 through Select-a-Seat.

Kayra and Danielle alerted us that Pink Is The New Blog is giving away tickets to Tori’s December 16th show in Los Angeles. As an added bonus, winners of the concert tickets will also receive a copy of the American Doll Posse album.

To enter, all you have to do is Pink-ify a photo of yourself with your posse along with a sign that says “Pink is the new _________” (something Tori-related) and submit it via email by Wednesday September 19th. (Please note that the contest does not provide airfare or travel expenses of any kind, so if you win, you’ll have to get yourself to the concert venue on your own.)

    Clyde in Canberra

    Sunday, September 16, 2007 | 17:08 UTC | Posted by woj | Touring

Clyde opened today’s show in Canberra, delivering her standard set of tunes to lead off the evening, but the big surprises were yet to come: “Pancake”, the first ever performance of “Digital Ghost”, and, during T & Bö, “Here. In My Head” and the first performance of “Me And A Gun” since 2005 in Turkey! Thank to Elizabeth for sending in the setlist. Several folks have already sent in some comments about the evening, but if you would like to share yours, they are always welcome! Just use the form at the bottom of the Canberra page.

    Sydney #2: Isabel Comes Forth

    Saturday, September 15, 2007 | 19:40 UTC | Posted by woj | Touring

Puffing a cigarette, as is her wont, Isabel made her debut appearance in Australia last night at the second Sydney stop of the Australian leg of the tour. Thanks to Brad Schmidt and Lauren for the setlist, which has been posted on in the Tour section. Notable songs include “Tombigbee” (played during Isabel’s set), “Sugar”, “Twinkle” (solo, which Tori extended by repeating the second verse), “Carbon” (played solo, alas!), and “Spark”. A short improv about “turning out the lights” that ended with Tori wondering if “things would ever change” preceded “Spring Haze”.

If you were there and would like to share what you thought of the show, head over to the Sydney page and leave a comment at the bottom — Violet has located a very rare and elusive Candy Cane Toad for the first person to submit a review!

    Sydney #1: Pip Pops Up

    Friday, September 14, 2007 | 20:20 UTC | Posted by Violet | Touring

Pip opened the first Sydney show. “Your Cloud” was a nice surprise, as was the return of a second encore to the set (albeit a short one with only one song, “Hey Jupiter”).

Head over to the first Sydney page in the Tour section. We currently have no reviews for this show, so the first person to submit one wins a FREE Cane Toad! (Offer valid only in Australia. Some restrictions may apply.)
