    Tori On NPR

    Friday, March 23, 2007 | 20:06 UTC | Posted by Violet | Releases,TV/Radio/Web

Alexander told us about a fun Tori segment on NPR. You can hear bits of “Teenage Hustling” ( oooh, we LIKE it! ) and “Big Wheel”. The part where one of the interviewers says “Uh-oh, eeeoooh” is pretty priceless. [Edit: Tori starts around 26:00.]

[UPDATE: If you scroll down the page, you can listen to “Big Wheel” in full. The link says “Teenage Hustling,” but it’s wrong.]

Completely un-Tori-related: stick around after the Tori segment to hear a clip from a truly grooving Delta blues song, “Down In Mississippi,” from the upcoming Mavis Staples album We’ll Never Turn Back.

    Posse Blogs

    Friday, March 23, 2007 | 18:31 UTC | Posted by Violet | Releases,Toriphiles

Yes, yes, yes, you Toriphiles have managed to find one of the blogs. Good job, detectives! And there’s a new entry posted today.

We may be able to confirm the remaining blogs once you’ve found them, but don’t ask us where they are. Remember, this is a hunt and you are on your own. The only way we’ll tell is if you find our hidden blog. Mwahahahahaaa! (Hint: We ain’t got no hidden blog.)

    ADP Australian News

    Thursday, March 22, 2007 | 14:58 UTC | Posted by woj | Releases

JB Hi-Fi, an Australian retailer, is taking pre-orders for American Doll Posse and will be shipping the album on May 18th. However, it’s not clear that is the actual Australian release date as they explain, “the above release date is for online store only due to shipping requirements – in store release date may vary.” Sony BMG Australia has yet to post a release date for the record down under…but at least they know how to flesh out a skimpy press release! (Or did we mention that already?)

Interestingly, JB Hi-Fi’s listing idenitifies the album as a double-CD release, with the track list, including “Posse Bonus”, “Smokey Joe” and “Dragon”, split between “Body and Soul” and “Father’s Son”. While this could be the special edition with the DVD, it could also be something completely different for the Australian market.

Thanks to Alana for the tip!

Ljubljana Tickets On Sale (For Real)

    Thursday, March 22, 2007 | 14:23 UTC | Posted by woj | Touring

In all the hub-bub about the new album, posses, and blogs, the Ljubljana show going on sale almost slipped under the radar. Thanks to one soldier of the army of spies who noticed that this concert on sale now at Eventim.si (if you can’t read that, click on the English link at the bottom of the page and then search for Tori and you’ll get the same link but in English). You must be registered with the site to purchase tickets. And it does not appear that you can select your seat location.

Note: the show appears to be taking place at Hala Tivoli rather than Krizanke as previously advertised.

Tori Introduces The American Doll Posse

    Wednesday, March 21, 2007 | 22:32 UTC | Posted by Violet | Releases

Toriamos.com sent out a newsletter about the Posse that includes the tracklisting and a link to an audio message from Tori. (You can also find the info by heading over to Everything Tori.)

    Tori’s message:

Hey there, this is Tori. So by now you may have heard about American Doll Posse. I wanted to officially introduce you to the girls. They will all be going on tour. We’re out shopping right now, and I can’t keep a-hold of a-one of them. They’d love to get to know you; they’ve all heard so much about you. You can look for them online. They will all be accessible if you can find their blogs, which they update frequently. Instead of an Easter egg hunt this season, I’m hosting a Posse hunt. Happy hunting.

Tori’s MySpace has been updated as well. Please, dear God, don’t let the members of the posse be buried in Tori’s 80,326 MySpace friends! That would just be cruel!

Thanks to Emily, Jack, Christina, Nicholas, and last but not least, my poor thrashed fingers.

The American Doll Posse Album Cover

    Wednesday, March 21, 2007 | 19:25 UTC | Posted by Violet | Releases

It’s heee-eeere. This image of the final album cover comes directly from Epic. Click to see the big (and we do mean BIIIG) picture.

    [American Doll Posse cover artwork]

Note that there is no text; we assume that’s yet to be added. Also note that the image is very wide; will this image wrap on both the front and back covers? Our fantasy is that the album will come in a hyperdigipack that has FOUR dimensions, where the girls will pop out, explain the songs, and then vacuum your house!

    The Posse ... Revealed!

    Wednesday, March 21, 2007 | 18:09 UTC | Posted by woj | Articles,Releases

The April 2, 2007 of US Weekly has a piece revealing the five characters that Tori developed for American Doll Posse. They are named Santa, Clyde, Isabelle, Tori, and Pip. In the brief accompanying article, Tori talks a little about how the five women’s stories factor into the album as a whole. (You know the routine by now: click on the thumbnail for a larger image.)

    The text reads:

    THIS MINUTE
    YOU WANT TO KNOW ABOUT...

    TORI’S DISGUISES

Tori Amos is into role-playing. For American Doll Posse, her first album in more than to two years, due on May 1, the piano-playing alt-rocker, 43, developed five female characters (insert) around the record’s 20 tracks. “The album is a collection of stories,” Amos (who lives in Cornwall, England, with husband Mark Hawley and daughter Natashya, 6), tells Us. “Each story is a chapter from one of the women.”

ALL IN THE FAMILY – Hawley, a sound engineer, worked on the album too. “There are moments when it can be really sexy and moments when you really disagree,” Amos tells Us of working with him. “That can be tricky when you go back to the same room ant the end of a long day!”

Thanks to Beebles for the scan and to WinterWitch and Fabz for stirring me from my workday torpor and getting my attention back to the work that matters!

CDs and DVDs and LPs! Oh My!

    Wednesday, March 21, 2007 | 14:54 UTC | Posted by woj | Releases

Barnes & Noble has added a listing for the special edition of American Doll Posse that explicitly specifies this version of the album will include a bonus DVD. Their track list for the special edition is currently identical to that of the regular edition though, so we still have no information about what the special edition will include.

Additionally, German retailer Bücher has added a listing for a vinyl release of American Doll Posse! We also have confirmation of the vinyl release from a trusted source who indicates that it will be a double-LP. It’s not clear at this time if the vinyl will be released in Europe only or not though. Regardless, fellow afficiandos of the wax, rejoice with me!

Thanks to Ellen and Darrell for these tips!

    Australian Doll Posse?

    Wednesday, March 21, 2007 | 11:26 UTC | Posted by Violet | Touring

Fabz hooks us up with some news from Down Under. Perhaps not super specific or definite, but at least it’s something.

(You can also see the “not really the album cover, but maybe it is, but it’s not official, so maybe it’s not, but it COULD be, but maybe not” pic at that same link.)

    ADP Review From Finland

    Wednesday, March 21, 2007 | 10:41 UTC | Posted by Violet | Reviews

    Finnish Toriphile Tommi reports:

I had the huge honour of being able to hear American Doll Posse today at Sonybmg headquaters in Finland and I thought I shared the experience with you.

The album in simply put excellent! I can’t say anything bad of it honestly. Its like sitting on a rollercoaster ride and it starts easy and suddenly it goes to more rock oriented sounds. I think Tori managed to combine elements of all her previous albums and add some of her favourite artists influence in the mix (Glam rock, Led Zeppelin infulences can be heard). There is also one track that reminded me of 60’s pop and other that came close to modern country. There are more guitars here than ever before and partially the sound is more American than before, which isn’t a bad thing.

Also added in the mix are horns and a harp (I think). So it is much more varied than Beekeeper or Scarlet’s Walk. Gone is also time of being too political and back is warrior woman. I can honestly say, that this is much better than 2 previous albums. It has some short interludes so the way it’s been put together is in the same style as Boys For Pele.

In other words, this is an album worth of waiting!!!

    Thanks, Tommi!
