Hey! Pip Can Be Political Too!

    Tuesday, December 18, 2007 | 01:21 UTC | Posted by woj | Touring

Curious what Tori-as-Pip was raging about (thank you vivatornado for the YouTube clip!) during “Cruel” at the Nokia last night? Perez Hilton has the answer, via a WGA member’s Tori-encounter before the show:

One lucky Writers Guild member (and Perezcious reader) got to meet Tori before the show and they talked about the strike that has affected all of Hollywood.

He tell[s] us: “She was very thoughtful, asked us how it was going, and told us to ‘be the power.’”

To everyone’s surprise, a few hours later, Miz Amos took the stage as the angriest of her characters and spoke a furious battle cry.

She shouted, “Writers! Writers! Where are you in this fucking town? When you gonna stand up and stop sucking the cock of the infested corporate clone? Seize the power!”

We wonder what Pip would say to Leno and Conan about returning to the air after the New Year — and whether she’d ever be their musical guest!

Thanks to Susan, Kimberly and lushvalley for the tip!

NME Concert Review (December 17, 2007)

    Tuesday, December 18, 2007 | 01:07 UTC | Posted by woj | Reviews,Touring

NME’s Los Angeles peeps were attendance at last night’s show at the Nokia and penned a review for the British magazine’s website. After reading it, we have to say that while they’ve described the show fairly well, we’re not really sure if they liked it!

Thanks to roel and Kimberly for the link!

Los Angeles: Isa-Pip At The Nokia

    Monday, December 17, 2007 | 12:06 UTC | Posted by woj | Touring

The American Doll Posse World Tour came to a close in Los Angeles with another double-shot of the Doll Posse: Isabel came on first, followed by Pip. Unlike the night before, Tori had both encores, ringing out the end of the tour with the closing strains of “Hey Jupiter”. The solo songs performed during T & Bö were “Silent All These Years” and “Cooling” while “Talula” came out to play for the second time on the tour. The full setlist, thanks to jamesy, vesperanto and jimmy, has been posted in the Tour section.

If you were there and would like to share, please post your thoughts about the performance there!

And just a quick note to all and sundry: THANKS for helping us document the tour! Violet and I, much as we’d like to, can’t go to every show. We depend on you guys — the army of eyes, ears and fingers — to help us and everyone else keep on top of the shows. This couldn’t have happened without you and we really appreciate it!

Orange County Register Concert Review (December 16, 2007)

    Monday, December 17, 2007 | 01:10 UTC | Posted by woj | Reviews,Touring

The Orange County Register’s Ben Wener reviewed last night’s show at The Grove for the Sunday edition of the paper. While not the most favorable of reviews, it is an interesting perspective from someone who, unlike many of us, has not been following the Posse on their merry jaunt around the world. From the outside looking in, a Tori Amos concert, particularly one from the current tour, can be a fairly mystifying experience!

And for those who don’t like words, check out the slideshow of Pip-tures that accompanies the article (from which the image at right was gleaned).

Thanks to Kimberly for finding this before we did!

A Gentle Note About Ungentle Comments

    Sunday, December 16, 2007 | 20:04 UTC | Posted by woj | Site News

As anyone who has been following the concert reviews here knows, there’s always been a certain level of sniping at audience members of all stripes: from complaining that the crowd was too sedate to decrying the over-enthusiastic dancing guy who distracted your view and everything in between. However, over the last week or two, tensions have been turned up a notch — or five — and reached the boiling point, particularly with respect to the fans who always seem to end up in the front row.

So, to be clear: when reviewing concerts for Undented, it’s perfectly acceptable to note audience behavior which impacts one’s experience of that show. However, when that is the central or only theme of a review or when the tone of a review is hateful and spiteful, it’s just not going to get posted anymore. Adding more fuel to the sufficiently burning fire is no longer productive and, to be honest, wading through the vitriol is taking a toll on us. Yes, we did let though some comments over the past week which would no longer pass muster. What’s done can’t be undone though and, however ugly, they do summarize the experiences that some folks have had at these shows.

Maybe we should have addressed this a while ago … but at least we got to it before the last night of the tour!

Anaheim: Pip and Santa Sitting In A Grove

    Sunday, December 16, 2007 | 15:38 UTC | Posted by woj | Touring

Double-Doll action really can strike twice!

The Grove of Anaheim was treated to sets by both Pip and Santa last night — and Pip even came back out a second time, sipping Santa’s mojito, to close the show performing “Suede” for the second encore!

As a general admission show, the audience was on the rowdy side and, it seems, Tori anticipated that by returning the favor in advance with the two “loud” Dolls.

T & Bö included “Carbon” and “Take Me With You”. Other interesting song selections included “Liquid Diamonds,” “Pretty Good Year,” “Hotel,” and, during Pip’s set, “Heart of Gold.”

The full setlist, thanks to jamesy, is posted in the Tour section. If you were there, please let us know what you thought of the show!

The [San Diego] Shizznit Hits The Fan

    Friday, December 14, 2007 | 23:57 UTC | Posted by Violet | Touring

Numerous agencies have picked up the news about Tori kicking the two girls out of the San Diego show during “Code Red.” (Jump the cut to read some of them, provided by Stephanie, Kimberly, jenndawn, JupityrBoi, Annie Marie, Chris, franco/pork, Joshua, and Fredrick.)

Those of you who checked the San Diego concert page after the show know that we mentioned this at the time and had the “Code Red” footage (including the expulsion) up a couple of hours later, but in my excitement to post the roundup article, I completely forgot to mention that bit here on the front page and it was still news to some of you. Oops, my bad! I was a little verklempt at the time and not thinking clearly. Check out the video on the concert page (it’s at the 2:28 mark).

The incident is still unclear… Some fans have said that the two girls were being outrageously squirrelly, running in and out all night, talking on their phones, taking pics of themselves, and yapping up a storm. Others say that they moved up into the front row seats when they were vacated by other people in an attempt to jump the gun on the mass stage rush at the end of the song. Either way, it’s safe to say that whatever they were doing, it was distracting enough to piss Tori off royally.

UPDATE (Dec. 16): d. ackerman sends us this additional info:

As we were leaving the show, we happened to walk past one of girls that got kicked out. She said: “I don’t know why the fuck she did that. We were just switching seats with someone,” so the information about them preparing for the stage rushing appears to be accurate.

Right after the incident, a man ran up to an empty seat in the front row and asked Tori (via gesture) if he could sit. She gave him the nod and (venue) security promptly removed him. I felt really bad for him.

Interesting. So the mystery (and confusion) only deepens. Chances are, no one except Tori will ever know exactly what happened or why (including the girls it happened to, apparently). LOL

As a final note, we’d like to make a point of giving another shoutout to Stebbo (aka butterfly0fdoom) for taking the footage — and in fact recording almost every song — and sending it in to us so we could have it up for you guys right after the show. For those of us who couldn’t be there (and were at home crying into their cocoa), that was the next best thing, and was truly awesome! Rock!

Santa Barbara: Clyde Heard About Your Fandango

    Friday, December 14, 2007 | 11:45 UTC | Posted by woj | Touring

Alas! There was no repeat of San Diego’s double-doll action last night at The Arlington Theatre in Santa Barbara. Clyde opened and played her regular allotment of tunes. Following her set, Tori came out and ripped through a set which featured the debuts of “Alamo” and “Talula”, as well as “Parasol”, “Spark”, “Lust”, and “Past The Mission”.

By now y’all know the routine: the full setlist, thanks to Jimmy and jamesy, is in the usual spot. If you were there an would like to review the show, please use the comment form there. Violet or I will get them posted a bit later today — right now though, I have to go dig my car out of a pile of snow and ice.
