Boston Herald/EDGE Boston Concert Preview (October 16, 2007)

    Friday, October 19, 2007 | 03:04 UTC | Posted by woj | Articles

Since Tori (and Pip!) is playing her first night in Boston, we thought it would be sensible to post Christopher John Treacy’s preview of the concert from The Boston Herald.

Update: The piece in The Herald is an edited version of this article. A longer version can be found at EDGE Boston. Thanks to the author for letting us know!

North Jersey Interview (October 10, 2007)

    Friday, October 19, 2007 | 02:57 UTC | Posted by Saar | Articles

I thought that it was really important through the project and through the touring, which lasts till mid-December, that along with the music, people can go online into this abstract world and communicate with these women. They have stories, and we follow their stories, which I thought was really important. I like the idea of a multimedia approach to this subject matter. Because I don’t think that there has to be an end of the expression with the releasing of the album. I like the idea of, how would you say it, improvisation along the way. And I’m getting to know them more each day, I guess, as we’re getting ready for the tour.

There was a short interview published in New Jersey newspaper The Record in the run-up to the two shows at Madison Square Garden. You can read the full article at NorthJersey.com or read it here. Thank you mr. woj!

Clash Of The Posses (October 9, 2007)

    Friday, October 19, 2007 | 02:49 UTC | Posted by Saar | Articles

Jasmine Fry came across a funny little piece in the October 9th issue of Philadelphia’s Citypaper. The author juxtaposed Tori and the Insane Clown Posse (ICP) as they were both playing in Philadelphia on the same night. ICP is a wrestling/rapping duo, so you can imagine the funny comparisons made!

    Go Magazine Interview (August 2007)

    Sunday, October 14, 2007 | 16:05 UTC | Posted by Saar | Articles

First of all, you have to be willing to spread your private life open for the world to see your intimate secrets. If you’re not willing to spread, then you don’t end up on the spreadsheets. There’s always been a history of screen goddesses who have captured the imagination of the masses, but even that seems to have become passé in favor of those who haven’t really achieved that status. Perhaps, the less threatening one is, the more that the masses can think, “Oh, I can become her and have her celebrity without too much effort. After all, I can do what she can do just as good as she can,” and maybe that’s the appeal.

There was an interview in the August issue of the New York publication Go Magazine. You can read the full article on their site, or read it here. You can also find two scans of the article: here and here, with pictures and all, woot! Thank you meade for letting us know!

    Syracuse Post-Standard Article (October 11, 2007)

    Thursday, October 11, 2007 | 12:33 UTC | Posted by woj | Articles

When you unleash the titans, you have to understand and you have to know you’re not projecting a red-headed singer-songwriter. You’re playing with a red-headed piano player who thinks she can kick your ass. At the Belgian fest, I think we held our own against Metallica.

So concludes an article in the Syracuse Post-Standard which serves as an introduction to American Doll Posse and a preview for Tori’s concert this weekend in that upstate New York city. (Fortunately, if any Titans get loose Saturday night, a city with a Greek namesake is as good a place as any!)

    Illinois Entertainer Interview (October 2007)

    Monday, October 08, 2007 | 00:01 UTC | Posted by woj | Articles

We can tell ourselves that we’re making a liberating choice by allowing ourselves to be an object. But if you really believe that to be true, then you haven’t done a lot of work on yourself. There has to be a place where you become the subject of your life.

Wendy Goetz points out that Tori is the cover story of the October 2007 issue of the Illinois Entertainer. An except of the interview is available on the website (reproduced below) but the whole thing is only available in the magazine. Fortunately, it’s freely available in the Chicago area (anyone want to transcribe the whole article?)

    The Believer Article (June/July, 2007)

    Sunday, October 07, 2007 | 23:31 UTC | Posted by Saar | Articles

There was a Tori mention in an article from the June/July 2007 issue of The Believer. It was featured in the 2007 music issue. (Vol. 5, No. 5) The article is written by Gina Gionfriddo and is entitled Radcliffe, Shelley, Freud, Reznor. william the silent told us that this piece is about 10 pages long and kindly provided us with the Tori mention:

Tori Amos brought anger into the mix with songs like ‘God,’ but even then, the most a disappointed Christian woman could do was tell God off and claim the catty last word: ‘God, sometimes you just don’t come through / Do you need a woman to look after you?’ Of course, innumerable bands have played with rock concert as black mass or satanic pep rally, but these always seemed to me more Halloween party pageants than serious sacrilege. Nine Inch Nails was the first band I’d seen dig its heels in for a prolonged theological slugfest. And where Madonna and Amos played one role in the drama, Reznor played all of them—oppressor God, interpreter-priest, fearless rebel, petrified victim, insatiable Faustian transgressor, etc.

On the magazine’s website you can find an excerpt of this article, tho if you want to read the entire article you’ll have to purchase the whole issue. Well duh, I hear you say.

All Hip Hop Interview (September 25, 2007)

    Tuesday, September 25, 2007 | 21:30 UTC | Posted by Beth | Articles

One of the big corners of my life is Public Enemy’s Fear Of A Black Planet. Nobody would know that was the inspiration behind Little Earthquakes; but it was. That’s the truth. [laughs] Energetically, this is a woman fighting for her soul and they were fighting for their souls. You know what we should do that would be kind of crazy? It would be fun to see what three Hip-Hop songs I can cover on this tour.

Some of you may remember years ago when Tonedeff sampled “Cloud on my Tongue” for his song “Circles,” which also made copious references to Tori’s lyrics. Now, Tonedeff — along with Kathy Iandoli — interviews Tori for All Hip Hop and gets some unusual thoughts out of her.

Additionally, Tonedeff also blogged about the interview where he confesses to being floored by Under The Pink and cites Tori as biggest musical inspiration. (Thanks Jena!)

    LiveDaily Interview (September 20, 2007)

    Friday, September 21, 2007 | 05:41 UTC | Posted by woj | Articles

That’s what sparked my, um, warrior self, because I didn’t understand where the women were. So I started to study us and try to figure out, ‘Were we distracted?’ ‘Were we self involved?’ ‘Did we just forget how important we are as a force? And were we seduced into stepping into these stereotypes that really keep us, I think, divided and at each other’s throats?’ I’m always looking at the right wing and what they’re up to.

Christina Fuoco-Karasinski spoke with Tori about the Doll Posse and touring for LiveDaily, where this interview was posted earlier today.

Daily Telegraph Article (September 15, 2007)

    Wednesday, September 19, 2007 | 03:48 UTC | Posted by woj | Articles

This brief article in which Tori discusses the Britney Spears improv appeared in the September 15th edition of the Daily Telegraph. Thanks to lucy for sending us a transcription and to Kylie who slipped us a scan which includes a nice photograph of Tori as well.

The Daily Telegraph also posted a longer and somewhat differently-angled version of the article online reporting on the improv itself and including a link to the audio clip on Spinner.
